Palmayrah Worker De!elo"me#$ So%ie$y &PWDS' was founded in 1977 with the purpose of empowering, organising and assisting the palmyrah tappers of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Trivandrum districts of South India towards their socio-economic development, social awareness, dignity and self-reliance !ooperatives, skill training for women towards alternate sources of livelihood and risk mitigation, and ha"itat development were some of the early initiatives PWDS today works in #$ districts of Tamilnadu, one district in Kerala and in %ondicherry through five network programmes, with $$ pro&ects and in partnership with '' ()*s The interventions of %+,S through its network programme and partnerships reaches out to more than -,$.,... families and includes groups such as palmyrah workers, rural artisans, women/s self-help groups, children, ,alit families, fishing communities, and persons and families affected "y 0I123I,S PWDS has promoted 1' people/s organisations and 1# support organisations It has replicated its e4pertise and e4perience from the (5563 network to promote the 3,I network towards 3divasi ,evelopment Initiatives It has played a pioneering role in 0I123I,S care and support programmes in Tamilnadu It is a recipient of the 7est %artner 3ward from 8(,% for Shelter 9 :ivelihood %rogrammes and was a finalist for the )lo"al ,evelopment (etwork 3ward #..' and for the +orld 0a"itat 3ward #..$ The strategic initiatives of PWDS for the coming decade include; !limate !hange 6esponses; !ommunity responses to climate change, with special focus on agriculture and energy towards increased income and improved food security o Sustaina"le agricultural practiceso +ater o 6enewa"le energy 6isk 6eduction; 6ural communities ena"led to adopt measures for reducing vulnera"ility and risk and for improved health conditions and reduced income loss

PWDS has its registered office in =arthandam, Tamilnadu, as well as a coordination centre in =adurai and an office in !hennai The organisation has a staff of -7 persons and has access to a resource pool of consultants, trainers, researchers and entrepreneurs with multi-sector e4perience

%urpose of the 6ole The %rogramme ,irector will work with the 54ecutive ,irector and the %+,S 7oard to review and formulate the strategic vision of the organiBation/s programmatic goals and outcomes The position is also responsi"le for the effective management and supervision of all programme related activities across all geographical locations of the organiBation 3dditionally, the %rogramme ,irector serves as liaison "etween all programme-related initiatives and the 54ecutive ,irector Tasks and 6esponsi"ilities To develop programmatic strategic plan for the organiBation To lead, strategiBe and manage the entire programme and all its activities To manage programme activities staff and volunteers To procure e4ternally or create and develop programme content and all programme related training activities
