Anticipating and Planning for Challenges: If anyone is allergic or does not like soy butter honey will be available. Activity Procedure/Concept Exploration: The class will be split into two groups of four children in each group. Then One group at a time will come back to the table. When they sit down the teachers will begin to explain what is on the apple poster such as; the shapes of apples, the different sizes, the different types, and the different colors of apples, where apples grow, how they grow, and the insides of an apple. After discussing the poster the teachers will explain what we are doing with the apples and the other various ingredients on the table. The teachers will then ask if anyone is allergic to any of the ingredients, and if so we will have substitutes. After discussing allergies we will distribute to each child a Lysol wipe to wipe down their area. Then we will go wash our hands and put on our gloves as a class. After everyone has clean hands we will remind them not to touch the tables, friends, or body parts. The teachers will then cut the apples in slices for each child. The child will then cut their apple with one of the five shaped cookie cutters provided. The children will then spread the soy butter on the apple shape, and count out as many raisins as they can and place them on the apple. We will see how far each child can count and count the raisins on each apple together. After counting together the children will then get to eat their apple

creations. Explain how this activity is DAP citing two sources: x Visual/Spatial This activity is DAP because some children can only count to five or lower and some can count all the way up to ten. We know this because of the PowerPoint in the class resources (Donovan, E. (n.d)). This activity will be new and interesting to the children because it involves food and a subject that they are already aware of, which is counting. We know that the activity is DAP because we also used the Indiana Foundations (Indiana Department of Education). Inquiry/Open-ended questions: (List at least 3) How many other objects in the room can you count ten of? Can you tell me ten different food items that you can put on an apple? What are some other activities you can do with apples?

Closure/Transitions: Teaching Strategies: (List) Small groups After the children eat, the teachers will ask them how they liked the activity, and have them throw away their trash. They will then wipe down their areas once again, and wash their hands. Assessment: Rubric Below. Extensions/Modifications: (Offer at least one way you could either extend or modify this activity.) For an extension we are going to have a poster that has information about apples on it. It will have the different kinds, shapes, sizes, colors, where they grow, how they grow, and what the inside of an apple looks like.
