Wenneman 1 Hannah Wenneman Katie Robisch College Writing 1 November 5, 2013 Pornography Pornography is defined as movies, pictures, magazines,

etc., that show or describe naked people or sex in a very open and direct way in order to cause sexual excitement (Webster). Pornography has destroyed the innocence and purity in men, woman, relationships, and unfortunately children of all ages. Divorce and break ups are more common to hear about between couples because of how impulsive and addictive pornography is when a partners attention is drawn into that fantasy world. This simple activity is an addictive, obsessive and aggressive behavior that many men in our society possess this day in age. Women are looked at as main targets to carry out certain sexual activities seen in videos, whether it is volunteered or by force, this is a leading factor of sexual violence. Sadly, Children are sometimes targeted for sexually explicit photography and sexual acts which can very well cross that line into something much more serious and hurtful. In societys common relationships between a man and a woman, pornography is becoming an increasing problem. Men and women who watch pornography in a relationship alter the way they see their

Wenneman 2 partner. The woman might appear less attractive during sexual intimacy, she might not be as flexible or even as aroused as girls in the videos are with certain positions. While on the other hand, the man might look less toned, fit or not even big enough to please her. Looking at pornography in a relationship looks at both the man and woman as being an act of disrespect and betrayal (Poulsen 74). This can make the woman feel like her partner does not love her like he used to or question his commitment to the relationship. Moreover the man might feel he cannot please his partner anymore and feel disappointing in the bedroom. Studies have shown, couples that are strong in their religion look at pornography less or not at all in their relationship because it goes against their God and what they believe in (Poulsen 74). Not only is this a common ground for the couple, but it also helps build a trusting and respectful bond with communication on what they feel about issues such as pornography. Within the past few years, the pornography industry has grown to about thirteen billion dollars, with over 50% of the Internet being used to look at sexually explicit websites (Wetterneck etal 3). More often then not, the common viewers are of the male gender, which experience the compulsive, addictive and impulsive behaviors that correspond with looking at pornographic material. Watching aggressive videos or clips with the man in control over the woman gives the viewer the urge to act in the same manor outside of the

Wenneman 3 fantasy. In most explicit movies the woman is shown as being promiscuous and asking for it in which then man will teach her a lesson. As a reaction to this portrayed view men think all woman would like to be sexually harassed, talked dirty to, or receive the same treatment of being raped, slapped or tied up. With this being said, men who do watch aggressive pornography have a higher risk of being more aggressive and hurtful toward the women they are involved with emotionally or physically in which could be for a long period of time or just a fun little night. Although the pornography industry has grown to be very popular in the money aspect, it is not as highly ranked for the women involved. Most women participating in videos or clips have tried to escape the everyday bondage and emotional abuse of pornography in order to live regular lives as respectable women, but are unable to get free. Women involved in the pornography industry are usually trafficked from other countries, who cannot speak much English, have low self-esteem or have some type of addiction to drugs or alcohol. As women are pulled into this sexual activity they often think they themselves have a say in how they are suppose to act or at least have control over their own body during the movies. Women also accept to participate because it is told to them it is just like a regular job, they can up and leave whenever they feel the need or want to. A reason for women to leave this job would be if they feel their rights or personal

Wenneman 4 being as a human have been violated. Regrettably, women do not know that most pornographic companies have some type of agreement or involvement with Mobsters, thugs or hit men, especially in the big cities. Having this connection, women do not realize how difficult it will eventually be to escape unharmed after fully going into this industry as a porn star. Whether it is threatening to the women themselves, their family or close friends, they will be hurt very badly and or possibly killed, making it impossible to escape the chains, physically and emotionally. Aside from this, even if the woman was able to escape this horrible career, how would she be able to look at herself the same? If she has a drug problem, with the income being cut off, how would she get her next fix to be able to bare the terrible nightmares and harsh reality of what she really does in order to survive? Sadly at the end of all these questions that women ask themselves over and over again, there is only one real way out from all of it, suicide. Unfortunately women are not the only innocent ones being abused in this manor. The amount of child pornography that has been surfed and downloaded on the Internet is sickening (Clough 213). The images online are more than just explicit photos of young virtuous children dressed up to please grown men, it also contains sexual acts between adults and child, bestiality and sadism (Clough 213). Children who are exploited at this age are not mature or responsible enough to know

Wenneman 5 what is really going on around them. As they get older, children that had very inappropriate things happen to them become depressed and remove themselves from reality, they can also develop mental problems in which could take a bad turn to suicide. Children will withdrawal from others around them and develop relationship problems that will effect them later on in the future. Having an intimate relationship with someone they feel strongly about may never be a possibility for them anymore. More than boys, girls are the main targets for child pornography and exploitation. They also have more of a risk of contracting certain serious diseases from the men sexually involved with them (Pais 558). Although the parents of these innocent children should be protecting them, they are usually off in their own world to notice their own child being physically and emotionally abused. Those often, who are supposed to be the protectors, are the abusers. This does not stop here for the children either; it does follow them through their life. Fully-grown pornography stars are more often than not sexually or physically abused at a young age. Pornography has destroyed the innocence and purity in men, woman, relationships, and unfortunately children of all ages. Women are usually the main targets in creating a pornographic film because they are unable to take control of the situation. They are chained up or bound by their limbs to make a great show for the person watching

Wenneman 6 the film. Very seldom does a woman ever escape this physical and emotional abuse, they are owned by whoever has created them, with the only real way out is committing suicide or having an early death. Men let it take a hold of their mind and are consumed by it. They create a behavior of being impulsive, addictive and compulsive, which leads to aggressive actions toward women. In relationships, if your significant other or spouse look at pornography it may alter how you look or feel about them. It creates horrible problems such as dishonest, distrust, lack of commitment or even a sense of betrayal from the person you love. Ultimately, the worse victims of pornography are the children involved. Their innocence is ripped from their bodies to please fully grown men. For some adults the photographs are not enough, they have the need to feel and touch in order to be pleased. This does not stop for the child here; this follows them throughout their entire life, creating problems of introversion, depression, self-loath, relationship conflicts and other serious mental health problems. Pornography is destroying the unadulterated minds of men, women, and children. When will the pain and suffering end for the innocent minded, who are brought up in a sick and twisted world, and are simply caught in the cross fire of lust and greed of man kind?
