! ! ! ! ! ! Claim: I claim the ingredients in a drink affect the pH level.! ! ! !

Evidence: I learned that the pH levels are affected by the ingredients in the substance. For example, the Powerade, Rockstar, Mt. Dew, Pepsi, and Test C (which was a combo of Mt. Dew and Rockstar) all had a pH of four and also all had Citric Acid. Whereas, Coke only got a three and it does not have Citric Acid. Also, the ves all had some way of having water in them. The ve were no iodine salt w/ H2O, Tea, Spring H2O, and Coffee. The six was essentials + and it did contain water but it must have been a different kind of water than the ves. And the highest which was eight was baking soda it only had two ingredients and they were both salts. The acidic levels also some times makes a difference. Saying that makes me think, that the higher pH level is actually a lower acidic level in the substance, so the lower the pH level the higher the acidic level. I get this from a chart in my classroom showing that Battery Acid is the lowest pH level and that the Ammonia Solution is the highest. I found that the one of the ones with the lowest pH level, Real Lemon has a few acids whereas the one with the highest pH level, Baking Soda had no acids. One time I drank Pepsi and it made my stomach hurt and now I think it was a chemical reaction between the Hydrochloric acid, Phosphoric acid, and Citric acid in my stomach. In conclusion, I think that the ingredients affect the pH level. !

Checking with the experts: the experts in chem4kids.com state that pH is a scale of acids to bases. They give examples such as 0-6 are acids like battery acid to bread, 7 is neutral, and 8-14 are basics from baking soda to drain cleaner.!
