Hunter Whitehead Dr.

Marci Campbell PSY 1100-22 12/8/13 Reflective Writing Overall, I enjoyed PSY 1100-22: Human Growth and Development, taught by Dr. Marci Campbell, very much. This course went through the developmental stages of the human life starting at birth and ending at death. I learned the various different biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial developmental concepts and theories that occur throughout our lifespan. For example in babies: I learned how to classify their temperament using the systems theory. Furthermore, in adults: I learned why they seek to find a sole mate and fear being alone through Ericksons sixth stage of intimacy versus isolation. The three reality writing assignments, which I have posted here, were particularly beneficial in helping me apply the concepts/theories that I learned in class with real life situations. I especially enjoy the second reality writing assignment, where I determined what stage of moral development a ten-year-old and his dad were in using the Heinz Dilemma. It was intriguing to compare the two different perspectives and be able to justify why they said what they did. I was very captivated when Dr. Campbell taught us about dementia. I would like to learn more about the disease as for my great-grandmother has Alzheimers Disease (AD), which is a common cause of dementia. This has even prompted me to possibly even pursue a degree in neuroscience.

The great thing about this class is that all the information that I learned is applicable to my life. When I have a child of my own, I can us my knowledge gained from this course to recognize where my child stands as far as development and what to expect along the way. Additionally, I have learned about the multitude of decisions that must be bade during marriage and will be able to overcome these difficult decisions more easily because of this class. PSY 1100-22: Human Growth and Development contained a great deal of information for only one semester. It was difficult at times to retain all the information from the course, but the way Dr. Campbell formatted the class made it more tolerable to stay intact with the due dates. Her power points allowed for me to capture material that I may had missed in the readings and clarified information that wasnt clear. I specially enjoyed Dr. Campbells countless YouTube video examples that exemplified concepts and theories that we were learning about throughout the course. It helped me store the immense amount of information more easily with memorable and ideal examples. In conclusion, my overall experience with PSY 1100-22: Human Growth and Development, taught by Dr. Marci Campbell was very informative yet rather fun. I learned the developmental concepts that we go through from birth to death and theories that accompany them. The reality writing assignments allowed me to apply these concepts to real life situations and were very beneficial in doing so. Im now better informed about the developmental process of the human being and will be able to use this knowledge to better my life. I would recommend taking this class

from Dr. Marci Campbell as for she is very knowledge in this area and does a magnificent job in teaching it.
