1. To secure a place on the study trip you need to forward by email your name exactly as it is written on your passport to your programme leader. Deadline: Friday 2nd November 2012. 2. To secure a place on the study trip you need to pass a cheque, made payable to StudyLink For the sum of 295 in an envelop to your programme leader. Deadline: Friday 2nd November 2012. Before you commit you need to read the following information very carefully: You are required to complete all the information requirements listed on the accompanying sheets and meet the scheduled deadlines! You are required to complete the attached Travel Information forms And Contact information form and forward these by email to your programme leader Deadline: Friday 2nd November 2012. If you wish to secure a single room please write a cheque for 355. Additional Expenses for you to consider: The Tour company offers travel insurance for an additional 6.50 If you wish to have their insurance cover please add 6.50 to your cheque Travel to and from Luton Airport aprox 20 (we will book a coach to and from UH) City travel in Berlin aprox 30 Meals and subsistence 70 Museum entrance 20 (most are free entry)

Important Travel Documentation ( essential that you understand !)


You will need a valid Passport with 6 months left on it from the date of travel Check that your passport is valid!!! You may need to order another passport and this will take 3 weeks. You will also need an up to date European Health Insurance Card (no cost) which ensures that you will get any necessary medical treatment. You get this by going on the internet. If you do not have a EU (European Union) passport


You will need to apply for a VISA and this is done through the German Embassy Web Site. This will need to be done well in advance of travel (6weeks)

Any minor deviation or omission will result in you being disallowed from passing through customs or flight check in!! Any non UK EU citizens will need to acquire a VISA via the German Embassy Web site. Berlin Trip Risk Assessment and Advice


Please read this risk assessment carefully, acting on advice.
Before you engage in the study trip it is essential that you carefully consider the possible risks involved. As adults over 18 you are personally responsible for yourselves. We will advise you and provide you with an itinerary recommending that you accompany staff to optimise safety. Please be aware that police and officials have low tolerance for foreign visitors anti social behaviour including over drinking and in particular drugs use. You are strongly advised to avoid any areas which are not on the Itinerary and to restrict your socialising to cafes in the area of the hostel or in areas recommended by staff. Identified hazards you should be aware of specific to undertaking a study trip Hazards Health problems Actions to be taken to limit risk It is your responsibility to inform the organiser of any known Health problems that may be exacerbated by travel. i.e. asthma, allergies etc. please ensure you have adequate medication. Be aware of traffic on right hand side of road. Do not distract each other in conversation when crossing roads as it is very easy to look the wrong way and walk into oncoming traffic. Avoid being jostled by crowd, stand clear of the platform edge. Carry a street and train line map, ensure you have a valid ticket. There is one journey per ticket. While it is easy to think you can cheat the system by re-using a ticket there are many spot checks and automatic fines if your ticket is invalid. Carry personal identity, student card and EuropeanHealth Insurance card. to be presented to a hospital in case of accident or injury, Carry contact name and phone number of group Organiser Carry accommodation hostel address and contact number Other members of the group to inform group organizer of any incident. Follow boarding and disembarkation instructions and stay with the group. Do not travel alone in unfamiliar areas. Keep to the advised itinerary, Travel with your group in known company.

Late night travel and socializing

Avoid placing yourself at risk by traveling alone or socializing with strangers in unfamiliar surroundings. Do not go to night clubs, accept drinks from strangers or leave your drink unattended. Avoid excessive drink as this increases risk of accident and attack. Evening meals: travel as a group, Inform the organizer of your intended venue and your intended time of return.

Please do not return to the hostel later than 12.00 midnight. There is a very pleasant bar in the hostel for your use till late. Please keep the conversation noise level low in the bedrooms. Theft Make sure you have a case, travel bag that can be securely locked. Do not travel alone or late at night, keep to the itinerary routes. Professional thieves and pickpockets look to tourists as easy targets. Be aware on the underground and tourist areas. Do not carry unnecessary valuables, such as passport, expensive jewellery. Equipment, such as cameras are best carried in an ordinary shoulder bag rather than in a specialist camera bag which calls attention to the camera. Keep your bags close to you. Backpacks are easy targets for theft of valuables. In the event of a bag snatch do not attempt to fight an assailant as this may endanger you, they may be carrying and willing to use a knife. In the event of a theft inform the group leader and report the theft at the nearest police station. Fire Drink Do not smoke or light candles in bedrooms. Below is a list of recommended places to visit. Please research these on the WEB We recommend you purchase a Berlin Welcome Card (three days, 25-30) for unlimited travel on public transport. The card can also be used for discounts on tickets for museums and sightseeing attractions. Purchased in the S-Bahn ticket offices and many hotels and BTM tourist information centres. Please research on the Web. Wednesday Museumsinsel is a treasury of antique architecture. An amazing complex of museums built like many temples to the grandeur of Prussia (1830-1930). The Pergamon, Altes Museum and Alte Nationalgalerie are now home to the reunified collections. The Pergamonmuseum is one of the most important museums of ancient art and architecture in the world. The colossal Pergamon Altar, dating from the year 160 BC, is the largest and most important treasure of the Berlin museums.
