Rev. 2013

Teacher Candidate: Sydney Teal Subject/Grade: Language Arts/Kindergarten

Lesson # 4 Date and Time of Lesson: November 14, 2013

Learning Objective: Students will be able to sequence six/9 cards that show the items the old lady ate. Alignment with Standards: CC.RL.K.1. With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. CC.RL.K.2. With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details. CC.RL.K.3. With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. CC.KK.CC.4a When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object. Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections:
Students will have to be able to listen well and participate in a classroom discussion. They will need to be able to use scissors appropriately, and glue down the paper that was cut. Students will need to know to move in the right to left directions when sequencing events. This lesson will show the connections of how events happen in a story, and how that relates to number sequencing in math.

Assessment(s) of the Objectives:

Lesson Objective(s) Assessment(s) of the Objective(s) Pre-Assessment: The students did a retelling of events with my cooperating teacher. During Assessment: I will ask students questions during the interactive read-aloud. I will repeat the sequence every time something else is added. This allows them to hear the sequence multiple times, and allows me to take note of who understands the sequencing. After reading the story, the students as a whole class will sequence the events in the story with assistance. Post Assessment: Students will cut cards that show pictures of the things the old lady ate. After cutting the cards, students will glue them on a sequencing chart. Use of Formative Assessment (TWS section 7) After collecting the data from this lesson I will determine whether or not a majority of the students still need more instruction on recalling facts/details. This is a skill that we will continue to use in our reading throughout the year, which allows the ones who need more instruction on this subject see it more than once.

Objective 1: Students will be

able to successfully sequence 6/9 cards that show the items the old lady ate.

Accommodations: This lesson is based off auditory and visual learning. Students will need to listen and participate in
all activities, so they can retell the story. There will be hands on work, so this lesson covers the key learning strategies. For my early finishers, they will draw the old lady on their sequencing paper. My slower paced students will have time to finish this activity during learning stations.

Materials: There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie By Lucille Colandro Large visual cards of each object that the old lady swallowed Visual card handout (post assessment) Crayons Glue Scissors Procedures 1. I will introduce the lesson with There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie. 2. Questions that will be asked: Who is the main character in the story? Where do you think the old lady is? How do you think the old lady feels? What did she eat first? Why did she eat all of those things? 3. After the story, as a whole group we will sequence what the old lady ate. I will do is so that every student will get a turn. If they need guidance, I will guide them by starting at the beginning of the story on what she ate and continue until the start retelling it with me. 4. I will dismiss the students to their seats, and give them their sequencing handout (post assessment) 5. I will give directions to all of the students. 6. I will walk around and assist anyone who needs help. 7. If students finish early, they will be asked to draw the old lady, and all that she put inside her tummy. Activity Analysis:
After our interactive read-aloud, students will be asked to work together as a class to sequence the objects that the old lady ate. This will assess their knowledge of retelling events. This is an engaging activity, because the students will be putting the objects inside the old lady's mouth. The next activity that the students will do is their post assessment. They will sequence the same objects that we sequenced as a whole class. They will cut out the objects, and glue them on their sequencing chart. I will not use any technology in this lesson. All that I will be doing, I feel that I can do it without the smart board.
