All the way from the US we have influential key note speaker and author, Mark Yaconelli, and a whole host of experienced speakers. The day conference will run in the style of TED talks so you dont need to limit your options. You will get to hear everything and then will be resourced to take your thinking further.

MENTORING YOUNG PEOPLE


If done well, mentoring has the potential to be a transformative resource in the life of teenagers. What is the unique role that it can play and how can we mentor well?
Ruth Hassall is the Pastor of Transforming Discipleship at St. Johns Harborne. Prior to that she worked for CPAS as a Leadership Development Adviser, particularly developing the Growing Leaders programme for teenagers following a whole number of years serving as Youth Pastor at St Thomas Church in Lancaster.

THINKING THEOLOGICALLY ABOUT YOUTH MINISTRY


Sally will be taking a theological theme and explore how it offers an insight into our youth work and how our ministry can be shaped by theology.
Sally Nash has over 30 years experience of training youth workers and is the Director of Midlands CYM. She is part of the team that manages the Grove Youth Series and has written several books about ministry. Sally is a Curate at Hodge Hill Church, supports Spurs, loves good coffee and walking by the sea.

SCHOOLS WORK
Churches and Christian organisations have a long history of involvement in education across all curriculum areas and in the holistic well being and development of pupils. Whether you are starting from scratch or are already very involved, how can we build relationships with local schools? And what do we have to offer once we have?
Oli Preston is the Youth and Schools Worker at St Martin in the Bull Ring where a major part of his role is developing the churchs creative engagement with schools across the region. He lives in East Birmingham with his wife Jo.

Gale Richards is a tutor for Northern Baptist Learning Community and project development worker for Heart of England Baptist Association, which entails her shaping and delivering educational programmes for youth workers, ministers and congregations. She is co-author of youthwork Grove Booklet Starting from Scratch.

COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY WITH YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES


Ann will be speaking about enabling young people withlearning difficultiesto develop spiritually within mainstream youth work. She will focuson effective communicationwith,and the support of, young people with special needsto grow spiritually.
Ann Clucas is an experienced, qualified teacher and trainer and hasworked with young people with special needs in schools and youth groups for over 25 years. Her hobbies include writing, sampling chocolate and playing with her grandchildren.

PORNOGRAPHY
Pornography is the biggest challenge the church faces when it comes to sex and relationships. All too often, pornography iseducating our young people about sex. Jason offers us a fresh, different approach.
Jason Royce is the Director of Romance Academy, a movement making a stand for healthy relationships and wisdom when it comes to sex. Hes been a youth worker for the past 15 years in Luton, Bedfordshire, and London.

SELF HARM
Graeme will be speaking about understanding the causes and symptoms and most importantly what to do if a young person is self harming.
Graeme Bigg is a freelance trainer for selfharm.co.uk and is based in Manchester.

BEATING THE RURAL BOUNDS


What happens when demographics rise, numbers fall and money is tight? Villages pull together, family is extended and the Church can be at the centre. The joys and challenges of rural youth ministry.
Esther Gregory has been the Young Peoples Officer in Hereford diocese for four years overseeing youth and childrens work in the diocese. She often works with small congregations, wanting to see growth but without the resources or people to reach out very far. It is a challenging and exciting place to be.

CONNECTING WITH OTHER FAITHS


Jesus helped his disciples understand what it meant to really follow him by utilising the learning opportunities around them. So what would he make of a world of interfaith diversity? Tim will be talking about the way in which making friends with someone of a different faith is great for our own personal faith and ministry witness.
Tim Fawssett is the CEO of The Feast, a Birmingham based youthwork project specialising in helping young people of different faiths to live well in a diverse world. Tim heralds from Australia, is married to Merryn, is the proud dad of Rosie and Sam, and is always available to do coffee.

MARKETPLACE
The latest youth ministry resources will be available for you to view and buy along with representatives from some key youthwork organisations for you to chat to and pick their brains.

PRAYER SPACE
Breathe prayer resource will be set up for you to experience. It is a great resource to use in schools, youthgroups and youth events for people of faith or no faith considering what it means to be a spiritual human being.

VENUE
St Barnabas, Erdington, in the Birmingham diocese, is a church we are very proud of because of how they have transformed their building to create a hub for the local community. There are some pay and display car parks (for a charge of approx. 3.30) and some free road parking but we would encourage you to go green and use public transport if at all possible. St Barnabas is less than 10 minutes walk from Erdington station and on a number of NX bus routes.

COST
Places cost 18 (including lunch and refreshments) for those within Birmingham Diocese (of any denomination) and 22 for those from other Dioceses. Bookings made before Jan 31st 2014 will receive a 3 discount per person. Cheques should be made payable to BDBF. Do bring additional money if you want cake!
