Logos
Description Creation of three separate logos in Adobe illustrator for a single company Programs Used
Adobe Illustrator

objectives Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image (at least 3 new logos).
Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. Use only the tools of Illustrator. (No photos on logo page) Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page / .5 margins and add the company name in simple type at the top of page. Getting feedback from outside sources. Ask ten people to select their favorite logo. List the results, along with your favorite, in your blog post.

Process I used the ellipse tool to create a circle for the clock in the background of the second and then
used the pen tool to draw in the hands and the four number dashes. I used the same tool to make a circle around the third logo and did it a second time to get the second color on the outside of the first circle. The first Logo I used the type tool and typed in AK. I then rotated the A counter clockwise a little bit, moved the K so that the bottoms of the two letters lined up and then used the pen tool to fill in the space at the top of the two letters making them into one continuous letter. Brochure
Description A two sided folding brochure, designed for a Child Developement Center. Programs Used
Adobe In-Design, Photoshop and Illustrator

objectives Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.) Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process I set up the fold line in adobe In-design so that when the fold was made a portion of the inside
would show on the front. I put the company slogan on this portion that will always be showing to illustrate the importance of the companies slogan. I used Photoshop on the middle picture of the two boys playing with blocks, to deselect the background around them. I used the quick selection tool and the laso tool to accomplish this. I then used the refine mask dialogue box to smooth, feather, shift edge and apply contrast to the outline of theWhen I placed this photo in In-design I used the text wrap tool to make the text wrap around this image that I had edited in Photoshop. I also edited the photo of the child center building on the back using the same method as the previous picture. To create the logo in Illustrator I opened the jpg. of the original logo and used Illustrator to create a vector image of the logo. I then edited the background color of the logo to blue to create better contrast.

Business Card
Description This is a design of a business card for Alexxus Kochel Photography. Alexxus is my wife and really
wants to get into photography one day as a hobby so I decided to make a logo and a business card design that she could possibly use in the future.

Programs Used Adobe Illustrator and In-Design objectives Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. (Dont use photos or live trace in your new logo) Design consistent layouts for a business card. Business card: 3.5 x 2 (print above center on a vertical page) Apply typography rules keeping small copy. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process For the business card design I decided to keep it quite simple. The front of the business card is
simply a part of a bird outline. I decided to make it the same color as the bird in the logo I created, only I increased the opacity to make sure it stuck out. For the back of the business card I put the full logo and contact information for the company. It seemed a little too plain so I added the vertical and horizontal colored lines to make it look more feminine and to add color to the business card.

I tried to use a simple font for the contact information to allow the logo to be the main focus. I also used to the bird as a water mark to include repetition and to help the reader recognize the company.

WebPage
Description A web page I created to showcase a logo I created. The logo was designed for a photography
company that my wife hopes to one day have.

Programs Used Text Wrangler, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Word objectives Size (300 500 pixels ) and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. (Design a
new logo, or use one from the Logo/Stationery project, to feature on a web page.) Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. (Write a minimum of 200 words to describe the process of creating your logo, in cluding rationale for color choices, appeal to target audience, design skills, and other perti nent information.) Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. (Use TextWrangler (Macin tosh) or NotePad++ (Windows)) Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Must include all required tags (Doctype (provid ed), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), & body. As well as tag that links to external style sheet. With in the body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, hr, and a (link to blog) tags.) Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the Cascading Style Sheet (css) provided in I-Learn to add page formatting that complements the logo design, by changing at least the following: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, Font Families and add at least one css comment. Identify hex colors for web design. (Find and use hex colors to match your logo) Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Open your HTML page in a web browser, take a screen shot, and place the .png on a 8.5 x 11 page and print in color. Keep . 5 inch margins on top and sides, with bottom margin at least .5 inch. Make sure your print is setup on a portrait style page. Make sure it is a quality print with ledgible text. See the sample projects on this page as examples (contains 3 files: .css file; linked logo .png; .html file of web page.)

Process To create this site I first created the HTML code in text wrangler and inserted the logo. I then used a
pre-made CSS code to create the design of the website, mainly the colors and the typography. I used the same colors that are found in my logo. I got the code for the colors using Photoshop and the eye-dropper tool. Once I had the color code I inserted it into the CSS document in Text Wrangler. I selected fonts that contrasted each other well but still showed the imagery of the company and the playfulness of the design and logo. I used the padding and margin codes to move the logo around and to make sure none of the lettering was too close to any one edge. Novermber 21, 2013 Communications 130 - Section 5 Sister Peterson

montage
Description A full bleed montage created in Photoshop to demonstrate the use and application of the
masking tool and gradually blending multiple pictures together.

Programs Used Adobe Photoshop and Google Image search objectives Learn to manage Photoshop layers.
Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images) Use filters. (Apply at least one) Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels) Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice) Unifying a piece with a consistent theme

Process found these pictures using Googles image search. I did a refined search to find only large jpegs
that would be compatible for this project. I inserted the Mossy Oak Pattern jpeg into Photoshop and cropped it to 11x8.5. I then placed the Tree Stand Man into the same document and used the laso tool to crop the part of the image that I wanted to use. I then used the masking tool on the second picture to blend it in with the background. I used the Text tool and inserted the title. I put some neat effects on the title to make it stand out. The sub title didnt pop enough so I inserted a black rectangle behind it and put a Gaussian Blur Filter on it so that it would slowly fade into the background.

Imaging
Description A personally taken photograph that has been edited and formatted using Photoshop. Programs Used objectives Learn basic photography skills.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150 Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Document needs to be 8.511 150 resolution. Margins: top 2, sides 1.25 and bottom 3 Adobe Photoshop and a Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera

Process I took this picture using my own Nikon Coolpix digital camera. Although it is not a high quality
camera I was able to use the close-up setting which allowed me to get a foreground focus. I then took the image into Photoshop and cropped the image to 6X6 inch square. I selected the background and applied a texturizer filter and desaturated it as well. I also gave it a bit of an orange hue to emphasize the autumn theme. I used the spot healing tool and the clone stamp to get rid of the shadow on the cat tail, and also used the brush tool to slightly lighten the cat tail and blade of grass.

event ad
Description A full bleed, color event ad promoting a fundraiser created using only Microsoft Word and a
Scanner.

Programs Used Microsoft Word and an Epson Scanner objectives Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process I scanned the image of the RZR from a magazine and imported it into Microsoft Word. i used a fade
tool for the picture so its edges wouldnt look so sharp and would blend with the rest of the design. I used large black boxes at the top and bottom to have a professional sleek look and also for repetition. I brought the picture down into the bottom black box to break up the straight lines and edges. The title is a large decorative font to catch the readers attention and the information on the ad is minimal and precise.

flier
Description A black and white promotional flier to advertise for a graduate leadership conference Programs Used Adobe In-Design objectives Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process I started this project by sketching out different ideas I had for the flier. The logo, picture, and
wording were provided so I tried to give it an interesting layout to make it pop. I created this flier using Adobe In-Design. By creating the black solid boxes I emphasized repetition and gave the flier contrast. The picture I used was designed so that when you got to the end of the flier your eyes would travel up the bodies of the men in the picture bringing you back to the title which was the focal point.
