Dear Friends,

I have just finished reading some prayer newsletters

from other missionaries. Their adventures sound

together, and played together. We had theopportunity to see just what the youth do during their free time, which helped us to better understand them. They had a chance to see adults enjoy the same type ofgames
they like to play. The youth thoroughly enjoyed watching the adults be just as silly in the games as themselves. It was a time of growing and of bonding.

exciting and dangerous as they face wild animals and

droughts. Sometimes I feel likeour letters mayseem a

litde boring to you after reading other missionaries'

newsletters.

Life in England is anything but boring. We don't face the dangers of wild animals or drought (although the English sometimes feel as ifthey are in the middle ofa drought when it doesn't rain for three weeks), but, like all missionaries, we face dangers not seen by the human
eye.

Tom is keeping busywith many diverse activities as he ministers with the people of the church. He is also involved in some community activities that keep him in touch with the people. He was asked and agreed to be President of the Bromsgrove Council of Churches. The Councilof Churches is comprised of ministers and of representatives from nearly all the congregations in Bromsgrove. The Council sponsors several united worship services each year, organizes and oversees different annual and one-time projects. The Council desires to express Christian unity as the congregations

Let me tell you about some of our adventures.

Many exciting things are happening here at Bromsgrove Christian Church. In our lastnewsletter, we reported that we had 10 baptisms on October 29,
1993. On January 30, 1994, we had four more

baptisms. There are otherswho worship with us who need to obey Christ in immersion. Please keep them in yourprayers. Thank you foryour manyprayers on our behalf, and please continue to pray for us and for the people with whom we minister.
In February, the church had a family retreat. There
were 38 of us who attended. It was a wonderful time of

churches/churches of Christ!

Also, Tom was recendy appointed to the Board of

Governon of Sidemore First School. This is the First

School (5-9) located next door to the Bromsgrove Christian Church. This will be a goodway for us to get to know more people in the neighborhood of the

fellowship and of getting betteracquainted. In addition

to the families who attended, we had several youth who came on their own. This was a good opportunity to

show these young people that they were a partof a much larger family the Christian family.
It was also a chance for theyouth and the adults to get to know each otheras we ate together, worshiped

during teaching sessions each day. (Charles isCMF's Pastoral Care Coordinator. The Cooks recendy retired from their ministry inJoppa, Maryland.) Their
wisdom, insight, sensitivity, and ministry refreshed us all and gave us great encouragement. The children were led byVern and Denny Eaton in special lessons (thatincluded crafts) during the adults' seminar times.
PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS:

Our children are all doing fine and are growing up

quickly. They just had a two-week vacation from

school and found it hard to go back especially when

they realized theyhad twelve more weeks until the end

ofschool. They do not get out until July 22, 1994. Angela only has one more year before she will complete England's required schooling.
Easter Day at Bromsgrove Christian Churchwas wonderful. We had a sunrise service at a local park. It was a time to reflect on God's Word in the bright, early morning cold. We then headed for the church's building for hot cups of coffee and tea to warm us up,

then we ate a wonderful traditional English breakfast: baked beans, fried tomatoes, eggs, bacon, and black

In April, we had our CMF retreat for the entire Great

know all of our teammates better and enjoy a time of

relaxation.

A New Car

So, it was "sweet" to receive the Ahos to the field

earlier than expected, to give the Alio family our car, and to receive a much-needed larger automobile. However, it was "sorrow" to saygoodbye to the Carpenter family. Please be praying for the Carpenter and Aho families as they begin their new ministries. Uncertain Housing Situation

Many of you have been praying for and have sent gifts for us to find a vehicle suitable for our family. The car we had would seat only five people, and wehave six persons in our family! So, we needed to purchase
another vehicle but lacked the funds to do so. We can

finally report that we have a car in which we can all be seated properly and wear seatbelts! Our search for the right car is a story of "sweet-sorrow." Last February, Steve and BethAnn Carpenterwho
served as one of the initial CMF Great Britain Field

service in England, our two-year housing agreement, likewise, is coming to a close (our lease ends December 1994). To find a house to rent in England can be a difficult task, and the typical lease is only for six months in length. We areconvinced your prayers enabled us to have the blessing of a two-year lease in a large wonderful home. We need your prayers again with regard to our housing.
The family from whom we rent presently lives in Australia. It may be that his job will keep their family in Australia for some time yet, and they may wish to
continue to rent to us. On the other hand, if they stay in Australia, they maywish to sell their home and no

December 1994

Dear Friends.

Greetings from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England! After a beatifiil Autumn season

with unusually warm weather, wearelooldng forward to sharing Christmas with our
friends and neighbors.

We are soexcited about the many wonderful things that have happened atBromsgrove Christian Church since we arrived two years ago and the Kinemans arrived eighteen months ago. Some ofthe Wghlights include: 18 people have been immersed; 3 people have renewed their commitment to following Jesus astheir Lord; 3 immersed believers. have become members ofBromsgrove Christian Church by transfer Qn addition to the Kineman and theFoust femilies); attendance at Bromsgrove Christian Church has increased atleast 75% (from 44 to75); 5 new CELL (Christians Evangeliang, Learning, and Loving) groups have begun wth 35-50 inattendance each weel^ there have been
significant increases in attendance with the Men's Breakfastand the Women's Christian

Fellowship; thousands of dollars ofrep^ and remodeling have been done to the church's

building; and I could go on. Can you begin to sense the excitement ofthe growing body
ofChrist at Bromsgrove Christian Church?

Larry and I have begun to focus ourattention on equipping the samts inBromsgrove (Ephesians 4)to do the work ofministry while continuing to serve alongside the believers. For instance, at ourmost recent (October 9,1994) baptismal service, Derek Stancombe baptized Clifford Cox. Derek spends an evening each week teachmg and training Clifford. Larry and I put ourtraining and time into people who are, in turn, putting their efforts into the lives ofothers. Derek isthe young man who moved with his family to Bromsgroye to work alongside Larry and myselfwhile he studies at Springdale College (the only Christian Church Bible college in England). Clifford is ayoung man from the Bromsgrove
community who has attended youth activities at Bromsgrove Christian Church for some

time but was especially reached through the Teen Mission group (led by Richard Clark and Pete Howard ofCentral Christian Church, Carmel, Indiana) that worked with us last
summer.

However, in order to continue the work in Great Britain, we need your help. Many ofyou have been praying for our housing situation. As we reported in our last newsletter, we knew it was possible that the people who own the house we live in might need to sell the house. They do. We just received notice that "our" house isgoing to besold, so wewill
have to move. We may need to move injust a few weeks, or--ifthe house does not sell
immediately-we may have a few months before we have to move. We rented the house
