IP address conflict on windows 7

I keep getting disconnected from the internet and sometimes I get a message that says IP conflict error Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log I tried using cmd and ipconfig but that's not working either. It says, "No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected" Host Name - something Primary Dns Suffix Node Type - Hybrid IP Routing Enabled - NO WINS Proxy Enabled - NO DNS Suffix Search List - TRENDnet So, I tried to turn on the IP routing thingy, by going to registry editor, I follow all the steps but can't find IPEnableRouter. I don't know what else to do to fix this problem.

IPEnableRouter is only used when you have 2 active network connections on separate networks on the same PC and you want to route traffic from one network to the other via the PC ( basically use the PC as a router). Disable any unused network interfaces. Open a command prompt as an Administrator and then issue the commands ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and see if you are reissued an address. Although addresses are leased from the DHCP server the PC can have a "preferred" address. This should flush that and allow the router to select another address. In reply to J.DD post on March 5, 2013 1. we have 5 computers at home but only use 4. 2. when I go to network connections, 2 appear. 1 is connected the other one is not. 3. We have 3 laptops at home that use wireless. Another one uses ethernet, and the pc that's not in use has ethernet also. Another thing that I forgot to mention. Things started when I installed my new bluray player, I tried connecting it to the internet and after that I kept getting the error message and kept on getting disconnected. Step2. Click Start, type: troubleshooting. Hit Enter on your keyboard. In the search box, type: internet connection. Double click the internet connection result that appears. Follow the on screen wizard to see if it can attempt to fix your problem. Method 2. If this does not help, try the following. Click Start, type: CMD. Right click CMD and click Run as administrator. At the command prompt, type: ipconfig/release . Then ipconfig/renew. Also type: ipconfig/flushdns. Type exit to close the command prompt, and restart the system. See if the problem is resolved. Method 3. 1.Click Start . 2.Click All Programs. 3.Click Accessories. 4.Right-click Command Prompt , and then click Run as administrator. According to this report there are 2 separate Wireless adaptors, although not impossible it would be unusual. The last time I saw this was on a PC where the user had not realised there was a wireless card built into the PC and had also fitted a USB adapter as well. This can cause confusion which one is being set up. Also completely ignore those adapters beginning with Tunnel, they make the output of the command look more complicated than it is. There is a way to remove them if needed. Connection 2 has no configuration so in unable to connect. The "No operation...." message is specific to that and has nothing to do with the active wireless port. You could actually disable the second connection.

After you did the renew the main active wireless device has been issued an address of 192.168.10.104 and that is all correct. Was the wireless then active? Trendnet use a default subnet of 192.168.10 which is slightly unususal but nothing wrong with that. They also set up the DHCP server to issue addresses in the range 100-200 so your 104 is the 4th release in its table. So the questions are what are the 2 wireless adapters and why do you have 2. By definition they are both going to be in the same wireless coverage area so having 2 adapters serves no direct purpose in the majority of cases. There are technical reasons to have both but not in a normal domestic situation. The address conflict arises when the router issues an address to a device which is the same as another one already on the network. The DHCP server obviously knows what addresses it has issued so should not re-isssues an address a second time. In some cases a DHCP server will also check that there is nothing on the network at an address before issuing it but not always. So how are you getting a conflict when the only source of an address is the one device? Two main possibilities. Something on the network has a fixed address so does not request one from the router. If that address is in the range 100-200 then at some stage the router could cause a conflict. Second possibility is an address has expired. When the router issues an address it sets a life to it typically 1-2-3 days. This information is also passed to the recipient and before the time is up if that device is not repowered it should request an address and so reset the timer. However if it does not and it expires the router can think that the address is now available and reissue it to something else. The BlueRay player being the "least" intelligent would be the favourite. The fix. If you have a printer, wireless or cabled, give it a fixed address. This has additional benefits in that because it's settings don't change the computers always know how to talk to it. It should instruct you how to do this in the manual and set it to a value of 99 or below. Everything has to be 192.168.10.XXX, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.10.1 Because this has arisen since the BlueRay Player was added the next thing is to set a fixed address on that as well, again below 99 but not the same as anything else. This then eliminates that from causing a problem. Finally turn off everything else, on PCs make sure they shut down, not go in to standby. Also disconnect any wired connection. Reboot the router leave to complete boot as evidenced by the internet connection light coming on and staying on. Plug in each wired device and start them up. Wait for each to complete booting before going on to the next then go through the same process with each wireless device. iPads, Phones, Tablets will have their own wireless reset option. The router reboot clears its DHCP table and then switching o each one one at a time will allow it to rebuild it with no conflicts. Reply | | Reply with quote | | Report abuse |
