Brochure
Description ~ Design a brochure with a
custom logo, full bleed image, and one fold Programs Used ~ Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop Date Posted ~ December 8, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Set up , align, and print a twosided, full bleed , folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate 4 quality images with one clipped and text-wrapped. Write 250 words of original copy with 3 paragraphs. Process ~ I started out with the front page. I wanted to use my shutter logo with my business logo inside of that on the inside page, with a cutout on the front. Then I started with my text. I was really struggling with where to place it. I changed the typography and alignment many times before I got to something that looked good. Then, I uploaded the images. At first, I wasnt sure what to do for the background, but I really like images as backgrounds, so I found an image that was a little more subtle. I set up my margins and then printed the project.

Web Page
Description ~ Using HTML and CSS coding,
create a webpage to describe and showcase my company logo Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop and Text Wrangler Date Posted ~ November 21, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Create 3 logos for a company using only Illustrator. Dont imitate exsisting logos. Arrange on an 8.5x11 page and get feedback from people to see which logo they like the most. Process ~ Well, Illustrator was a very hard program for me to use. I felt like I didnt know the tools well enough to be creative with anything. It was definitely a stretch for me. The first logo I created was actually the one in the middle. I wanted it to be really simple but I also wanted to incorporate a cool design for one of the letters. So, I used the shape tool and created pentagons, layered and colored them. I also separated my text so I was able to manipulate the specific letters. The top one I really wanted to make look like a camera with a shutter. I used the shape and the pathfinder tools to create the shape in the middle of the p. The last logo I really wanted to just be the text with nothing fancy. So, I used a decorative font in the green and blue colors with the shutter logo off to the side.

Logos
Description ~ Create 3 logos to represent a
new company/business using Adobe Illustrator Programs Used ~ Adobe Illustrator Date Posted ~ November 1, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write 200 words describing your logo. Design a web page based on the logo using HTML and CSS. Identify Hex colors for web design. Process ~ This project was very technical, but it actually wasnt too hard for me. I used text wrangler to write html and css codes. I started with the html I made from the last activity and I started with the css from I-learn. I changed the fonts and colors to match my logo and I changed the padding on most of the separate parts of text. I also wrote all of the text about my logo and why I created it. Total word count is 283 including the intro. I also added a link to my photography Facebook page in the html. One other thing that I did was change the art board on my logo to create the right space around it on the web page.

Business Card
Description ~ Use an original logo to create
a business card and letterhead as a stationery set for a company Programs Used ~ Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign. Cannon T3i DSLR camera Date Posted ~ November 8, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Create a new logo to place in a business card and letterhead stationery set. Letterhead is 8.5x11 and Business card is 3.5x2. Keep things simple by using light watermarks and white space. Process ~ I started with creating my additional logo and really wanted it to be the shutter of a camera. Then I started with the business card. I really wanted to stick with the idea of simplicity and clean lines. So, I simply placed the logo and contact information. I thought about putting a straight line on the side, but it just didnt seem to go. I didnt want to overwhelm the card, especially since my logo is such a focal point. As a photographer, I really wanted to place an image on my card, so I placed an image Ive taken on the back. I then created my letterhead. I wanted to keep it simple so just put the shutter image as a watermark with my logo at the top and contact info. at the bottom.

Montage
Description ~ Inspirational Montage with 2
or more images using masking, typography, and a filter Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop, and Cannon T3i DSLR camera Date Posted ~ October 24, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Learn to manage and blend Photoshop layers with the masking tool. Use filters, appropriate typography, and quality images. Make the image unifying and consistent. Process ~ I decided to use my own images, so I opened them in Photoshop and edited the background photo using the noise filter. I reduced the noise around her because it was really grainy at first. Then I added the 2 extra photos and created masks on both of them. I wanted to write i hope they call me on a mission. I made 2 different text boxes and placed them on top of each other to give it more visual interest. I also made it so the main subject was looking towards the typography, so flow would be good.

Event Ad
Description ~ A full-bleed event Ad for a
fundraiser using only Word and a scanned image. Programs Used ~ Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, and Cannon T3i DSLR camera Date Posted ~ October 11, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Find, scan, and import a high quality image. Create a full-bleed. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert/edit images in Word. Process ~ The first thing I did was scan my original photo. I decided I wanted the whole thing to be the background. I didnt want to crop it, or size it down. I placed my image in Word and then started creating rectangles. I changed the transparency of the boxes so that the photo would still show. I then placed text boxes of the same transparency over the gray rectangles. I chose contrasting fonts and sizes. I also made use of the tracking tool to create visual interest in my text.

Flier
Description ~ Black and White flier to
promote a graduate leadership conference Programs Used ~ Adobe InDesign Date Posted ~ October 5, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Apply the desing principles and use appropriate typography. Use basic InDesign skills to improve layout. Retrieve image and logo links from this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process ~I started with some sketches of my flier and then used the one I liked best to design my flier in Adobe InDesign. I wanted to create unique alignment by using several different strong lines throughout the flier. I also created contrast with the fonts and the different colored boxes with white text. I wanted the proximity to be relevant with the title and body copy close together and the logo, d.t.p., and website link together. I also tried to be very smart with my white space. Normally, white space drives me crazy, so I had to get creative with how I placed everything on the page.

Imaging
Description ~ An original photo edited in
Adobe Photoshop with de-saturization and the sponge filter. Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop and Nikon DSLR camera Date Posted ~ October 18, 2013 Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3 Instructor Name ~ Julie Peterson Objectives ~ Learn basic digital photography skills. Size, crop, adjuct, brighten, change saturation, etc. in photoshop. Apply a filter or colorize and desaturation to the photo. Process ~I took this photo using a friends Nikon DSLR camera. It was around sunset, so the light was just beginning to fade. I really love nature and I wanted to capture the feel of fall with these leaves. After uploading the photo to Photoshop, I started to edit, using the layer tool so I wouldnt destruct my original. I really didnt want to make it look fake. So, I took the approach of a painting by using desaturation on the cement and saturation on the leaves. It still needed something more so I then used the sponge filter which I thought really enhanced the photo. I was also able to use different tools in Photoshop to help me crop, and separate my image to edit it.
