1 Corinthians 7

An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairshow he can please the Lord. 33But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this worldhow he can please his wife 34and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world how she can please her husband. 35I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 In the Gospels, Jesus revolutionized the relationship between those who are married and those who are ________________. The gospel brings a new dignity to SINGLE persons, valuing them equally with those who are married. We should be careful not to fall into the trap of consciously, or unconsciously buying into the _____________ that somehow is it more Christian to be married than to be single. That singleness is a disease that needs to be cured.

Myth # 3 Marriage is Gods ____________ calling for men and women. In truth, the Bible says that singleness is a better choice, and if a person can live in this way, it is, spiritually speaking, a more productive way to live your life Not everyone can or should be single, but those who can should, especially if their motive is that by being single, they can better serve Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians 7, the Apostle Paul points out that singleness provides many practical opportunities and advantages over marriage. He says, Those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. An unmarried person is free from marital concern and able to be concerned about the Lords affairs without having his or her interests

Myth # 4 Singles struggle with ___________________ more than married people.

It is true that some single adults really struggle with loneliness, but it certainly does not take being single to be lonely. The loneliest person in your hometown is not a single adult, but a married adult who is in a terrible marriage. I believe that it is better to be unhappily single than to be unhappily married. Many people have rushed into marriage seeking refuge from loneliness only to get the shock of their lives. The loneliness of marriage can be more painful than the loneliness of single life. Many singles yearn to be married; a lot of marrieds dream of being single again. The truth is that contentment is a choice, not a _________. Its the result of an individual, by faith, fixing their eyes on Jesus and trusting Him to bring about whats best for their life. Not a byproduct of your circumstances.

The Four Myths of Singleness

Myth # 1 Singles live less _____________, less fulfilled lives than married people. Some people mistakenly associate singleness with ______________, thinking that life begins with marriage. Myth # 2 Marriage solves all the _________________ of singleness. God never promised anyone, married or single, a life without pressure or difficulty. Everyone must learn to grow in relationships. The thing to remember is this: the better a person can manage life as a single, the better chance that person will have of establishing a successful marriage relationship. Anyone who marries to escape the problems of the single life will be surprised to find a brand new set of difficulties. One real problem of leaving the single life for marriage is that you have to take _____________ with you.

Two scriptural principles regarding singleness:

People are single because God has a plan for their singleness Singleness is a ____________ from God, not a disease from which to be cured. A truly Christian view of singleness and marriage will _____________ both without disapproving one or the other. Here at Trinity, we celebrate marriageand we celebrate singleness.
