Its popularity can be judged from the large number of families on the waiting list (approximately three times oversubscribed) together with the positive feedback displayed on Ofsteds Parent View and the annual New Parent surveys undertaken by the school. The success of the school is also reflected in the latest Ofsted report which rates the school as Good across all categories. In addition, the success of the Maharishi Free School can be gauged from its GCSE results. This year is the first since opening as a Free School where the school had a sufficient number of pupils for the GCSE results to be included in national performance tables. Overall, this indicates that, even at this early stage as a state school, our results are significantly above the national average. Out of the thirteen pupils who sat GCSE examinations, two were considered to be at School Action Plus on the SEN code of practice. If the results are calculated without including pupils with SENs, they show 100% in every category (as shown in the table above.) The AQA Certificate in English Language and the AQA Certificate in English Literature, used by Maharishi Free School, are not included as qualifying assessments for DfE performance tables until 2014. These examinations are accepted by leading sixth form colleges and employers, and are acknowledged by Ofqual as equivalent to GCSE examinations. The consequence of this is that the DfE performance tables do not accurately reflect the high achievement and success of pupils at the Maharishi Free School, especially in core subjects. The consequence of delaying the inclusion of the AQA Certificate in English Language in the performance tables until 2014 is that instead of a pass rate of 85% in GCSE examinations, the attainment of Maharishi Free School pupils is shown as zero in DfE performance tables. The Guardian newspaper on the day of the publication of the 2013 performance tables said this, But the tables and results were complicated by the decision of many leading independent schools to take the so-called "international GCSE" or IGCSE in English, some of which no longer qualify for inclusion in the government's league tables. For example, St Paul's girls' school in London one of the most accomplished independent schools in Britain is listed as having no passes at GCSE level and returning no results in English GCSE, because the school was one of several that opted to sit the IGCSE in preference to the domestic GCSE. 1/2

The majority of the children were relatively new to the school, and the number taking the SATs was small, so national comparisons are not reliable.
