FAMILY COPING INDEX

Definition: The objective of this indicator is to present bench mark for approximating the nursing needs of a particular family, thus the family Coping Index. It is the coping capacity and not the underlying problem that is being rated, and it is designed to record the family rather than individual coping capacity. In public health nursing, the family cannot be seen only as a factor that affects health; rather, the family is the patient .
Family Coping Index is measured with the following scores: 1- No competence COPING AREA Physical Independence 3- moderately competence RATING 3 5-complete competence JUSTIFICATION The family is able to get out of their bed,walk independently, in terms of household chores the family is cooperative and supportive with each other, however, Mrs. A, did not basically meet the needs of their children because Child 5A walks barefooted and child 4A has presence of lesions due to insects bites. DEFINITION This category is concerned with the ability to move about, to get out of bed, to take care of daily grooming, walking,etc.

This includes all the procedures or treatments prescribed for the care of illness, such as giving of medications, using appliances, dressings, exercises and relaxation, special diets, etc. This system is concerned with the particular health condition that is the occasion for care. This is concerned with family action in relation to maintaining family nutrition, securing adequate rest and relaxation for family members, carrying out accepted preventive measures such as immunizations, and medical appraisal, safe home making habits in relation to storing and preparing foods. This is concerned with the way the family feels about health care in general, including preventive services, care of illness and public health measures. Use of Community Facilities

It has to do with the degree of the familys use and awareness of the available community facilities for health education and welfare.

Their house is free from pest insecticides, falling debris and others but is risk for injury due to presence of broken chairs. They dont have trash cans for their garbages thats why they just burned it. They have uncovered deep well. And unpleasant odour from their neighbours poultry. They also have their stagnant water at their backyard. The family knows when, to whom and where to call or approach for help for community facilities especially in terms of health. But they would only go if is needed due to far distance.
