400 October 28, 2013 How Can We Balance Parents Right And Childrens Right in Order to Avoid The Forced Marriage? Exploratory Essay Life has many options of how to live it which let you have to decide how to live it. Each person has his/her full right to make his/her own decision for his/her own life or as long as he/she does not disrespect others right or life. Giving people their fully right to decide their options of their life let them feel free, happy, and comfortable. Even if they chose a bad decision they will still feel free, happy, and comfortable because they chose it by themselves. Parents right over their children are a controversial issue in our life because it disrespects the childs right especially when it comes to life decision such as getting married. In order to avoid that, the family right needs to be balanced between parents and children so no one disrespect the other. In my research project, I decided to run after this question, How can we balance parents right and childrens right in order to avoid the forced marriage? This question is a good question to be examined because if the parents right continues disrespect children right, the children will grow up with no rights feeling, which will cause mental diseases. I feel that leaving the child have no right to avoid the forced marriage will kills his/her life which might effect his/her future. I needed to learn more about the parents right and childrens right before

I focus on my thesis question. I started from Google looking for some information about the topic. I read a short article, "Children's Rights," from The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Archard & David), in order to have some information about the children rights. I learned that there are some kinds off right that better taking off childrens right such as voting, getting married, or having sex. Childrens right is a controversial issue The various debates shed light on both the nature and value of rights, and on the moral status of children. (Archard & David). According to Archard & David, the childrens right has been looking from different views whether the should have a right or not and what kind of right will they have if they have a right. This article showed me how it is controversial. Also, I needed to know more about parents right over their children and the UN convention. I used the CSU library database to find an article that informs me. I read a scholarly article, Balancing The Rights of The Child And The Rights of Parents in The Convention on the Rights of The Child from Academic Search Premier (Quennerstedt), to give the depth information that I was looking for about this topic. I learned that the UN convention is beside the childs right. According to Quennerstedt, the Convention of the Right of the Children (CRC) deals with the child as any adults by respecting his/her right. Also, the CRC has some views in different parts of the situation The CRC takes a holistic view on the range of rights in that it covers civil and political rights as well as economical, social, and cultural rights. (Quennerstedt). This gave me a big view of the situation. After spending some days rereading the articles and reorganizing the ideas

and information, I felt that I need to do some more research about how to apply the rights of the child. In other words, how the childs rights would work. I liked the CSU library database so I used it again, and it was very useful. I read a scholarly article, Serbian Family Law: Rights of the Child. from Academic Search Premier (Stani), to have some information that investigate my research question. I learned in depth about how the childs rights apply in some situations such as personal name, citizenship, and personal relations. Also, I learned about the new Serbian family law and how it works. There is no different right between children due to their gender or interest Male and female children have the same rights in family and all other relations. (Stani). According to Stani, when it comes to the child health care issue, the parents right is important as well as the right of the child him/herself. The Serbian family law surprised about how it organized the childs right over his/her age. Spending several days looking for some useful information about the parents right and the childs right was great because it gave depth information about the topic. After having a strong background about this topic, I decided to start investigating the main part of my research question, which is the forced marriage. I started by using Google to have some articles that might inform me about the situation of being forced to marry. I read a short article, Human rights student reporter of the year on life after forced marriage. From TheGuardian.com (Wilks), which gave me a life experience about how the forced marriage disrespect the childs right. From this article, I learned that there is a cultural habit, which is out of the government control that forced parents to force their children to marry

Alhajeri4 Despite such difficulties and the longstanding reluctance of policymakers to discuss the issue for fear of being criticized as culturally insensitive there has been increasing pressure to act. (Wilks). How the cultural part applies in this story surprised me. The next two sources that I found were about showing the bad side of the force marriage in health and life. The first article that I found, Forced Marriage Ruins The Lives of Too Many Girls, so We're Working to End it. from TheGuardian.com. (Featherstone), which inform me about how bad life that caused by the force marriage. I learned that the forced marriage distribute the childs personal life leaving him/her with no right. Also, I learned that childs marriage effect the childs health Early marriage is also inextricably linked with girls suffering domestic abuse and being coerced into sex. (Featherstone). According to Featherstone, most families believe that early marriage is good for girls because it protects her. The second article that I found useful for this research, Forced Marriage Unit Deals With 114 Cases Involving Mental Disability. from TheGuardian.com. (Pidd), which gives depth information about how the forced marriage cause a mental disability and how the ministry of justice deal with it. forced marriage is a problem that cannot be counted The government dealt with 114 cases of forced marriage last year that involved mentally disabled people a number government experts admit is only the tip of the iceberg of a horrendous hidden problem. (Pidd). These two sources show that disrespect the childs right by forcing him/her to be married is harmful.

Alhajeri5 After doing this long research, I have concluded that the forced marriage disrespect the childs right and there is no parents right can forced the child to be married. Forced marriage has no single advantage. Parents must stop forcing their children because with force there would not be any positive reactions. Always negative. Until this point, I am not sure about what I would continue working in my final project. I think I would do more research hoping to find a single benefit of forcing kids to be married. if there is no benefit, I would start researching in depth in order to avoid children from being forced or protect them from forced marriage. According to Featherstone, there is no fast solution that can solve this phenomenon. However, I would try really hard to find one. Cultures and religions must not take off the childs right.
