Drunk driving crackdown
Sheriffs department to amp up
efforts during holidays. PAGE 4
KRYSTAL TOMASSO/The Sun
A blast of winter hit Cinnaminson, causing the county to call for a Code Blue until the end of the second week of December. The chill
was bitter, but did not scare off patrons of the Cinnaminson Library from their obligations, though they did bundle up and scurry back
to their cars after returning their books to the library.

The Sun
The weather is frightful, but
certainly not a reason to stay in
when Cinnaminson has so much
to offer during the holiday sea-
son. There will be time with
Santa, carols, breakfast meetings,
a New Years Eve day trip and a
Scandals, Rumors & Dirty Rot-
ten Lies program to shake it up.
A Festival of Lessons and Carols
The Festival of Lessons and
Carols, at St. Charles Borromeo,
is a service of scripture and song
that dates to the late 19th century.
In this service, there will be nine
scripture lessons that recount the
fall, the promise of a Messiah, the
incarnation and the great com-
mission to preach the good news.
Each lesson is followed by a carol
or other song that reflects on the
lesson's message and a brief
prayer. The choir is led by parish-
ioners, high school and elemen-
tary students and friends of
many faiths.
The festival will be held at the

The Burlington County Sher-
iff s Department will be cracking
down on drunk drivers as part of
the annual holiday season Drive
Sober or Get Pulled Over
statewide campaign. Running
through Jan. 2, local and state law
enforcement officials will con-
duct saturation patrols and sobri-
ety checkpoints.
A concentrated national effort,
the campaign helps to raise
awareness about the dangers of
drinking and driving through
high-visibility enforcement and
public education tools.
As part of this program our de-
partment received a $4,400 grant,
which will allow us to provide 88
hours of enforcement throughout
the county," sheriff Jean Stanfield
said. This effort will bring atten-
tion to the serious consequences of
drunk driving and the grave dan-
ger those who choose to drink and
drive pose to all who share the
road with them.
Last year in New Jersey, 19 per-
cent of all motor vehicle fatalities
were alcohol-related. Nationally,
during the combined months of
December in 2007-2011, there were
4,169 people killed in drunk driv-
ing crashes.
Stanfield offered the following
advice to help residents avoid the
dangers of drunk driving:
Take mass transit, a taxicab,
or ask a sober friend to drive you
home.
Spend the night where the ac-
tivity is held.
If you see an impaired driver
on the road, contact law enforce-
ment. Your actions may save
someones life, and inaction could
cost a life.
Always buckle-up, every ride.
Its your best defense against an
impaired driver.
If you are intoxicated and
traveling on foot, the safest way to
get home is to take a cab or have a
sober friend or family member
drive or escort you to your
doorstep.
Be responsible. If someone
you know is drinking, do not let
that person get behind the
wheel.

A
s the holiday season begins to
wind to a close, we want to
take this opportunity to thank
everyone who stepped up to help those
in need. This time of year usually
brings out the best in people. Judging
from the number of announcements
we received from our readers regard-
ing donation drives, it looks like this
year was no exception.
Last year, Hurricane Sandy created
an immediate need in many communi-
ties. This year, some of those commu-
nities were still in need of help. Food
banks were running low after sending
supplies to those communities hit hard
by the storm.
The same with those who help with
clothing, and even toys.
Over the past few weeks, we have
had the pleasure of publishing stories
about efforts to lend a hand. Like al-
ways, there were the usual Toys for Tot
drives and more. We dont keep a for-
mal count of the number of holiday
fundraising event stories we publish
from year to year, but it certainly
seemed that, in 2013, there were many.
So, we thank those individuals and
groups who organized these efforts.
And, on behalf of them, we also thank
everyone who picked up an extra can
of non-perishable food, an additional
bag of dog food, one more toy and
more. To all of those who reached a lit-
tle deeper into their wallets this year to
help out, your generosity truly made a
difference.
We wish everyone a happy holiday
season and hope for a wonderful 2013.
in our opinion
Happy holidays!
A thank you to everyone who helped to brighten the season for those in need
Stepping up
Thank you to everyone who lent a helping
hand to those in need this holiday season.
But giving shouldnt stop just because the
holidays arent over. Tell us about your
donation drive throughout the year,
and well share it with the rest of the
community.

BCC housing options
broaden for students
Housing options for Burlington
County College students have
broadened and given them an op-
portunity for independence with-
in close proximity to their class-
es.
BCCs new off-campus housing
service can connect local land-
lords and BCC students looking
for rental units, making it the
first community college in New
Jersey to partner with
Places4Students.com.
Local landlords can post list-
ings online now. This service will
provide a list of rentals available
in Burlington County
that are convenient for BCC stu-
dents.
All student services are free for
students; including listing search-
es, student sublet postings and
roommate profiles. Landlords
who advertise between now and
Feb. 28 will benefit from free prop-
erty listings as well, with no fu-
ture obligations.
Although Burlington County
College is a community college, it
is not entirely a commuter col-
lege, BCC Vice President of Stu-
dent Success, Dr. Terrence Hard-
ee, said Burlington County Col-
leges reputation attracts stu-
dents from 16 different states and
52 nations across the globe.
Places4Students will make it easi-
er for them to locate places to live,
while advancing their education
in Burlington County.
More than 14 percent of BCC
students from the fall 2012 semes-
ter lived in a rental unit. This se-
mester, nearly 170 students from
more than 50 different countries
attend BCC, as well as nearly 120
out-of-state students.
Were helping students find a
home, away from home Mark
Taylor, director of Accounts for
Places4Students.com, said.
Burlington County Colleges
partnership with Places4Stu-
dents fills a void in our communi-
ty to provide a direct connection
between students who need a
place to live and landlords who
have rooms to rent, Hardee said
This is a win-win situation bene-
fitting students and the commu-
nity.
Places4Students.com has been
in operation since 2003, and is cel-
ebrating its 10th anniversary this
month. It has partnered with
more than 100 college and univer-
sity campuses throughout North
America and helped more than
67,500 landlords and property
management companies rent to
students effectively to-date.For

Yes, with snow on the ground it
seems far away, but before long

for 2014 field reservations for
baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse,
field hockey, football and other ac-
tivities.

submit a request in writing by the
Feb. 1 deadline. Information must
include name of organization, in-
surance information, dates and
times of requested usage and
field requested. There is an annu-

Written requests should be ad-
dressed to: Cinnaminson Parks
