SIL 197.05 replaces SIL 197.04 In an ongoing effort to provide the most current information for LeTourneau, Inc. products, the most current data on split flange seals, split flanges, split flange bolts and o-rings are listed in the following pages. Split flange seal types The only split flange seal being supplied or used by LeTourneau, Inc. for 1" (16), 1.25" (20), 1.5"(24) and 2" (32) split flange hydraulic applications is a white round polyurethane seal. There are also part numbers for several other types of split flange seals/O-rings listed in the table. These are shown for reference purposes as various types of seals have been used and earlier documentation may show obsolete types of seals. Suction line seals The suction lines on the pumps use a QUAD seal with a cross section as shown in Figure 1.

Split Flange Information There are two types of split flange halves - forging and casting. The forged split flange halves are thicker than the castings as shown in the table on page 5. LeTourneau, Inc. requires that the forged split flange halves be used in all pressure applications. The castings are only permitted to be used on pump suction lines or return lines with operating pressures under 500 psi.

Figure 2

Split flange clearance The split flange system is designed so that a small amount of clearance remains between the split flange half and the mating component. This assures that the hose is held tightly against the mating component and seals tightly. The typical clearance between the split flange half and the base material is about .010". However, 1-1/2" (#24 Heavy Duty) hose assemblies have a slightly thicker flange on the hose fitting and as a result there is a larger gap of about .125".

Split flange bolts The bolts used to secure all split flange clamp halves must be of grade 8 quality and 3/4" minimum thread engagement is required to compensate for the thicknesses of the forged flange clamp half and the fitting flange. Hardened flat washers must be used under the head of the bolts. The 4 bolts on the two split flange halves must be tightened evenly in steps and in a rotating pattern until the final torque is achieved. This will prevent creation of stresses and improper sealing that would arise if tightened and torqued one bolt at a time.

Figure 4 To prevent the possibility of injury or serious equipment damage, replacement hose assemblies must adhere to the aforementioned updated factory specifications. LeTourneau, Inc. reserves the right to initiate product changes without prior notice.

Note: 1. Each part number represents 1 flange half, two flange halves are required per each hose end. 2. Cast flanges are no longer used in high pressure applications (For return circuits typically under 500psi). 3. Cast and Forged clamps can be identified by measuring dimension X as indicated below. Cast flanges have a smaller dimension (refer to the chart above). * Use table to identify forged clamps from cast clamps.
