Needles: One pair size US 3 & 6. Gauge: 22 sts & 26 rows = 4 using size US 6 needles in st st or size necessary to obtain gauge, 5 buttons. Colors: A = Black B = Yellow C = Pink Garter st: Knit every row. Stockinette St: Row 1(RS): Knit. Row 2: Purl. CARDIGAN Back With smaller needles and A, cast on 51 (57, 62, 68) sts. Work in garter st for 6 (6, 6, 8) rows, increasing 3 (3, 4, 4) stitches on the last row: 54 (60, 66, 72) sts. Change to larger needles, and color B, and begin stripe pattern as follows: *Work in st st over 27 (30, 33, 36) sts in color B, attach color C, and work in st st over 27 (30, 33, 36) sts in color C. Work back in st st in the established colors. Repeat these last 2 rows 2 (2, 3, 3) times for 6 (6, 8, 8) rows total. Change to color A and work 2 (2, 2, 4) rows in garter st. ** Repeat from * to ** reversing the colors B and C. Then repeat agin reversing the colors B and C back again. Continue making stripes in this manner until there are 5 colored stripes. End with the color A garter st ridge(s). Change to color C, and work in st st over 27 (30, 33, 36) sts in color C, attach color B, and work in st st over 27 (30, 33, 36) sts in color B. Work back in st st in the established colors. Repeat these last 2 rows until length is 4 (4.5, 5, 6) from the top of last color C garter st ridge. Bind off. Right Front With smaller needles and color A, cast on 24(27, 30, 33) sts. Work in garter st for 6 (6, 6, 8) rows, increasing 2 sts on last row: 26 (29, 32, 35) sts. ***Change to color B and work in st st for 6 (6, 8, 8) rows. Work 2 (2, 4, 4) rows in garter st with color A. Change to color C and work in st st for 6 (6, 8, 8) rows. Work 2 (2, 4, 4) rows in garter st with color A.**** Repeat from *** to **** until 5 stripes total have been worked and ending with the color A garter st ridge(s). Change to color C and work in st st until total length from top of last garter st ridge is 1.5 (2, 2.5, 3.5), ending with a WS row (RS row for left front). Begin Neck Shaping: At neck edge, bind off 5 (6, 7, 7) sts, work to end of row. Then decrease 1 st at neck on every following alternate row 4 (4, 4, 5) times: 17(19, 21, 23) sts. Continue even in st st until piece measures same as Back. Bind off loosely. Left Front Work as for Right front reversing color B and color C throughout. End on a RS row before neck shaping as noted. Work neck shaping as for right front. Right Sleeve With smaller needles and color A, cast on 33(36, 38, 40) sts. Work in garter st for 6 rows, increasing 3 (3, 3, 5) sts

evenly across the last row: 36(39, 41, 45) sts. Change to larger needles, color B and work in st st, begin increasing 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 4th row until there are 46(51, 57, 65) sts. Continue even in st st until piece measures 6(6, 7, 8), ending with a WS row. Bind off loosely. Left Sleeve Work as for right sleeve, except use color C for the sleeve body instead of color B. Finishing Sew shoulders together. Sew in sleeves. Sew up sleeves seams, and side seams. Neck Band Using smaller needles, color A, and RS facing, pick up 22(22, 24, 24) sts up the right front neck shaping, 17(19, 21, 23) sts across the back, and 22(22, 24, 24) sts down the left front neck shaping: 61(63, 69, 71)sts. Work in garter st for 5 rows. Bind off loosely. Button Band With smaller needle, color A and RS facing, pick up 50(54, 59, 63) sts along left front edge. Work in garter st for 5 (5, 5, 7) rows, Bind off loosely. Buttonhole Band With smaller needles, color A and RS facing, pick up 50(54, 59, 63) sts along right front edge. Work in garter st for 1 (1, 1, 3) rows. Buttonhole row: Work 5 buttonholes evenly along next row by working YO, k2tog) for each hole. Work 3 more rows in garter st. Bind off loosely. Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes. Weave in all ends. HAT With smaller needles and color A, cast on 83(94) sts. Work in garter st for 8 rows, increasing 5(6) sts evenly across last row of ribbing: 88(100) sts. Change to larger needles, and beginning working in stripe pattern as follows: *Work in st st over 44 (50) sts in color B, attach color C, and work in st st over 44 (50) sts in color C. Work back in st st in the established colors. Repeat these last 2 rows 2 (2, 3, 3) times for 6 (6, 8, 8) rows total. Change to color A and work 2 rows in garter st. ** Repeat from * to ** reversing the colors B and C. Then repeat agin reversing the colors B and C back again. Continue making stripes in this manner until there are 5 colored stripes. End with the color A garter st ridge. Change to color C, and work in st st over 44 (50) sts in color C, attach color B, and work in st st over 44 (50) sts in color B. Work back in st st in the established colors. Repeat these last 2 rows until total length of piece is 5, (6), ending with a WS row. Keeping colors at top as established, shape crown: Row 1: *(K9, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 2, and all even rows: Purl. Row 3: *(K8, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 5: *(K7, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 7: *(K6, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 9: *(K5, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 11: *(K4, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 13: *(K3, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 15: *(K2, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 17: *(K1, k2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Row 19: *(K2tog); repeat from * to last st, k1. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull up tight and anchor. Sew up back seam.
