4.3.4 Insulation Shield

The insulation shield shall consist of an extruded black thermosetting
semiconducting material compatible with the XLPE insulation.

The average thickness and minimum thickness of the insulation shield shall
be as indicated in the Data Schedule.

4.3.5 Metallic Shield

The metallic shield shall consist of copper wires with or without binding
copper tape(s).

The minimum short circuit current rating of the above metallic shield for one
second duration shall be as indicated in the Data Schedule.

IEC 60949 or ICEA Publication P-45-482 shall be used by the manufacturer
to determine the effective cross-sectional area of the metallic shield and its
short circuit current carrying capability.

The individual strand of copper wires shall be sized to withstand mechanical
stresses experienced during cable pulling and splicing.

4.3.6 Moisture Impervious Layers

The moisture impervious layers shall consist of the following:

a. First Layer (longitudinal water barrier) - a layer of semiconductive
water blocking tape or powder between the insulation shield and the
metallic shield. The thickness of this first moisture impervious layer
shall be independent of that of the extruded insulation shield.

b. Second Layer (longitudinal water barrier) - a layer of semiconductive
water blocking tape or powder between the metallic shield and the
