THIS THOUGHT ALWAYS BOGGLES ME every time it passes through my mind.

What if the homosexuals existence serves more purpose than being true to ones self? What if homosexuality is actually mans answer to its problems on population explosion? And, what if the societys approval of them is actually because of the reason above? Dont get the wrong idea. I am not against homosexuality. In fact, I have acquaintances that are admittedly gay and have homosexual tendencies. I admire them for being true to their self and at the same time, their economic contribution is not something the country can just overlook. In my observations, most of the homosexuals I see are either working or has a business of their own. Their most common job locations are in beauty parlors, hair salons, and comedy bars. If we are to compare the percentage of men working with respect to their total number and the same goes for queer (homosexual man). Ill hypothesize that percentage-wise, queers that are part of the labor force outnumber the men. Obviously, homosexuals are a common sight in the country. From the entertainment field to workplaces and up to ones neighborhood, you can see them. I think, not only that we are a free country but the fact that being homosexual is sensationalized in mass media that made it easier for those who are confused to come out of their respective closets. This garnered the Philippines rank number 10 among the most gay-friendly countries in the world according to Pew Research Center, a US-based organization. Alfred Kinsey claimed that the percentage of homosexuals is around 10% but that is for US only. Through my extensive online research, it is safe to say that the estimated percentage of homosexuals is at 7% of the total population. This includes gay, lesbian, and transgender. I cant disclose any figures with regards to our countrys homosexual population but just like any other country, it is definitely on the rise. Both the world population and homosexual population experienced a dramatic increase in the last few decades. Societies are starting to accept their rights as human beings with equal stature to those of biological origin. One by one, countries are approving of marriage amongst homosexual couples not simply cohabitation and/or civil union. As of 2013, same-sex marriage is legal to 15 countries, 9 states in the US and few cities across the South America. Recently in Taiwan, more than a thousand people gathered to support the same sex marriage bill. Homosexual couples, married or not, like any normal couples aspire to have a family. Although science has a way of procreating a baby through in-vitro fertilization, artificial insemination or surrogacy that applies to homosexuals, many issues arise while they are in the process. Adoption, then, is their last resort. Adoption of homosexuals can be divided into two forms: same-sex couples adoption or by one member of a same-sex couple. Most homosexual couples are adopting a child in order to raise a family.

Data from Gary Gates, a demographer in US, showed that 65,000 adopted children are from homosexual couples. From merely 8% in 2000 to 19% to 2009, homosexual couples incur a large number in adoption process. I started with a number of questions that even I had trouble giving an answer. Through the course of writing, more questions arise in my mind up to the point that even I lack the knowledge to provide proper responses. In the end, what I really wanted is for you to at least to get a grasp of what Im trying to convey. I have this lingering conjecture that the increase in number of homosexuals can lead to decline in population. If more men or women admitted the truth about their sexuality, then homosexual population will increase. Sexual procreation, an act that only happens between male and female will, in turn eventually lessen. Natural increase of human population will certainly go down. Increasing homosexual couples will lead to increasing rates of adoption among them. Following this train of thought, I therefore conclude that homosexuality can serve as an ultimate contraception to the rapid population growth we are experiencing. This is the reason (besides the observable one) why there are homosexuals and that different societies are learning to accept them more and more. Not only me but a number of important individuals might have realized it. They will play an important role in creating a better life for the generations to come. Homosexuals will reshape the world the world, literally and metaphorically. To clear things up, this phenomenon may not be apparent today but 20-30 years from now, population will undergo an exponential decline in figures. With the fall of natural increase in population, artificial means will be the widespread method in order to create newborn babies. The cost will be reduced so that every individual from each class will be able to afford it. Test-tube babies will be the norm. I will call this phenomenon as the Violet Corollary.
