Like Son, Like Father: Surgeons Team Up in Seton Hays Operating Room
In August, Dr. Mark Dammert, a Hays County ear, nose and throat specialist with Austin ENT Clinic, needed another surgeon to join him on a case at Seton Medical Center Hays. So, like the smart son that he is, he asked his dad for help.
Good choice. His father is Dr. William (Bill) Dammert, a longtime pediatric general surgeon and a logical choice to work with his son in an operating room. Three years ago, in a semi-retirement role while living in the Dallas area, Bill Dammert took on rst assistant work and began assisting friends in all surgical specialties. Now, he assists his son in Central Texas, too. I suspect this will be a regular occasion, said Mark Dammert. Of course hes ideal in the pediatric cases I see. However, hell also assist with adult cases. With several decades of experience, his assistance in the OR will always be a welcome contribution.

Their monthly visits may increasingly be timed around Mark Dammerts medical cases, but theyll leave time for Grandpa to take the kids to ride the train in Zilker Park. I grew up watching my father in action, said Mark Dammert. I would join him on rounds or watch him in the operating room. Now that Im in practice, its extremely special to work alongside one another.
Dr. Mark Dammert, an ENT who practices at Seton Hays, is a native Texan whos pleased to be home after several fullling years in Louisiana. Following his ENT training, he had the privilege of completing a competitive facial plastic surgery fellowship under the guidance of four renowned facial plastic surgeons at Louisiana State University Medical Center. As a result, he has experience in all aspects of reconstructive and cosmetic facial surgery in addition to general ENT surgery. Considering the growing population in Hays County, I saw a need and an exciting opportunity to develop a rst-rate ENT surgery program here, with allergy and facial plastic surgery services as well, said Dr. Dammert. It has always impressed me how Seton Medical Center Hays is a true community where the entire team works together to advance health care in the Tri-County area, he added. Having this team and such a modern, well-equipped facility allows me to treat patients of all ages with ease. When he is not busy in his practice, Dr. Dammert enjoys spending time with his wife and twin toddlers who seem to keep him too busy to do much else in his spare time! Dr. Mark Dammert is a physician with Austin Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic located at 1180 Seton Parkway, Suite 420, in Kyle. His ofce number is (512) 268-5282.

A mother recently brought her son, who had been sick for more than a week, to the Childrens Care-A-Van. She tearfully described the panic she felt because his fever and cough persisted despite all the remedies she tried. She felt shame that she didnt have the money to take him to the doctor because her family needed food for the week and they had bills that were past due. She also worried that she wouldnt be able to afford any medicine he might need.
By the end of our visit, she had hope in her eyes and voice, andit seemed her walk was a little lighter. She left with the knowledge that she did not have to experience that fear ever again. She has a place she can turn to when things go wrong and her child needs help. The support of donors and the community allows me to do this important work with the Childrens Care-A-Van. We are providing a means for these children to be whole body, mind and spirit. Im grateful to be part of a community that cares enough to provide this invaluable service. Somewhere between Texas and Honduras during a trip to see her grandparents, or studying abroad in Chile as an undergrad at Rice University, Stone developed an urge to travel. While I have been all over the world, my heart wanted to return to Texas, Stone said. I feel very lucky and excited to serve in my own community. Now a board certied family practitioner with Seton Family of Doctors in Luling, Stone grew up in Lytton Springs, just 10 miles northeast of Lockhart. Shes a big fan of barbecue and likes the proximity to the BBQ Capital of Texas. Its a small world, she said. Our ofce manager is my high school classmates mother. I am incredibly fortunate to be home again and surrounded by friends and family. Stone graduated summa cum laude from American University of Antigua College of Medicine. She is an active volunteer with international humanitarian projects. To make an appointment with Dr. Stone, call (830) 875-3445. 6
An estimated 650 people attended Seton Medical Center Hays annual health fair on Saturday, October 5. A number of free and discounted screenings were offered along with activities for the kids, healthy food demonstrations, u shots, chair massages and much more! The majority of people who attend this health fair are intent upon learning about health care services available to them in their community, explained Barbara Rosen, a participating vendor with Wimberley Home Health. Im appreciative that I have the opportunity to educate them and people are genuinely interested. There are also educational opportunities for children. That is an added bonus. Texas State University also had a presence in recognition of Seton as the ofcial health care sponsor of Bobcat Athletics.
Appreciated assets such as stock not only offer you an income tax deduction, but also give you capital gains tax benets. Gifts of property can be transferred directly to the Seton Hays Foundation.
