LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND MISSION TEAM DEVELOPMENT

Leadership Summit Interview and participants.

Our last update from Brazil!

November was our last official month of work here in Brazil. Most of December has been spent packing and closing out our lives here in Itu. We had two final mentoring sessions with the group we have been training here in So Paulo. We passed the baton to Marcus Estanislau who brought our lessons and activities and is taking the lead on keeping the group going after we leave. They discussed ideas about adding new members in the new year. Jerry spoke at the National Elderlink (Pastoreai) conference held in Campinas where about 35 leaders from around Brasil gathered to hear lessons from Ian and Deon Fair. The Itu church hosted the Willow Creek Leadership Summit again this year. Jerry was interviewed by Alice Gonalves after Bren Browns talk on Vulnerability. 80 participants were inspired by the presentations. The last week in November we taught a class on Counseling at the Ser Cris servant training school in Campo Grande. Jerry has taught at least one course to every group of students there since the school began 15 years ago. It was very sad to say goodbye to all of our friends there.

Gail was honored at the year end luncheon of the Bible Study group she has been attending since we arrived in Itu. The women shared their love for her and gave her some precious goodbye gifts. This group has been a sustaining force in her life for the past 5 years.

A new soul was added to the congregation in Itu. Rachel was baptized on our next to last Sunday. She and her family have been attending for about a year. What a joy to see God continue to add new lives to His church.

This congregation has been a wonderful home for us these last 5 years. We were able to come back here after working all over Brasil and Latin America and find rest, renewal, peace and friendship among His people here.

Multipliers!!!
We are thrilled to see God using those we have mentored to continue the work we began. We already mentioned Marcus taking over the mentoring group. He is also implementing many of our ideas with small groups in the Campinas area. Last week he and his wife, Aretha, lead a spiritual renewal for couples that was a blessing to the couples who participated. In Braslia, Alvaro and Ana Claudia lead a 24-hour marriage retreat for 16 couples from the church there. Alvaro and Ana have been to several of our marriage and renewal retreats and are now spreading what they have learned to others. 2 Tim. 2:2 Walter and Edna from our So Paulo group are also sharing what they have received with other small groups in their city.

Joncilei and Kria, here in Itu are very committed to the idea of caring for ministers and church workers and will carry on our work here. Others around Brasil are also multiplying our work and we PRAISE God for this!!

We will be arriving in the US on Dec. 20. Our plans are to spend Xmas and New Years traveling to see family and friends. We will be back in Dallas by Jan. 11 to begin our reentry and job hunting. Please keep us in your prayers as this may be the hardest transition we have attempted in all these years of ministry. Your thoughts and prayers mean so much to us. A HUGE thank you to all of you who have kept us going and will continue to support us into this next phase. We love you all dearly!!!
