Asisevident,allthecharactersofTheBookThiefhavetheirowndistractionsfromtheir problems.Theyuseactionsandobjectstheytakeinterestintobringthemselveshappinessin timesofsadness,tokeepthemselvesfrombeingconstantlyweigheddownbytheirtragedies. Thisisveryimportantbecausealthoughthecharactersshouldnotpushtheirproblemsaway, theyalsocannotletthemovertaketheirlives.Bytakingrefugeinwhattheylovecolors,words, fightseachofthesecharactersbattlesthroughtheobstacleslifethrowsatthem.
