Around Our Department: Interviewee: Miss Nicke

In the beginning of January, there will be a final test for all English Students at UPI and it will be held for around two weeks. However, does anybody know who prepare the tests? And how do they prepare the test? Actually, in our department, theres no committee for final test that is held every year, but there are final assessment coordinators. Our department has ISO standard which requires has to prepare things including preparation for final evaluation, so its basically not only final test. There are two persons play a part as final assessment coordinators. Miss Nicke is responsible for taking care of the final assessment for English literature program and Mr. Handi for education program. One of their jobs is to accommodate what lecturers need when they need to conduct final assessment of their courses that may include arranging schedule. Actually, the final test schedule is already made by academic bureaucrat and they just rearranging and reallocating some courses which need requires more time, because the academic bureaucrat doesnt know the exact situation in our department. However, it is not easy to rearrange the whole schedule of the courses in our department. It is important to rearrange the schedule because there are some courses do not have any final test, the assessment might have during the class and not at the end of the semester. Moreover, it is also because not all courses require any paper and pencil test, some tests are developed in a form of performance based. Somehow, there are some obstacles that they face during the process of taking care of final assessment. It is difficult for them to communicate about how we need to develop the technique of evaluation assessment because it is quite new for our department and not everybody is aware of the situation. The ISO standard also requires them to pay attention to technical things, such as how all documents copied and be ready to be used in the class. However, too much things to handle and everything should arrange well, and they have to struggling with the situation over semester.

If youre aiming to get A, you should prepare for the whole semester and not only at the end of semester. However, if you want to do quick way, cramming can be a strategy you can use to prepare yourself for a test. This technique may help prepare for a test but the effectiveness of this technique is different for everyone. The last minute cramming is very different from daily studying and actually the best thing to do is that prepare your self for the whole semester. Beside of cramming, you have to understand what the question is, then read and follow the instruction carefully. After those things, you need to pray. There is always x factor, and perhaps praying can help you to face the final test.
