b) State and explain Gibb’s Phase Rule. Discuss about the applications of phase rule
by giving at least four examples.

2. a) What are Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids? Give examples for each.
b) Draw the profiles of shear stress versus shear rate for Newtonian and different
types of non-Newtonian fluids and explain.
c) What do you understand by rheopectic and thiscotropic fluids? Give examples for
each.
3. a) Write the Bernoulli’s equation and explain the terms involved.
b) Define skin frictions and form drag.
c) What is the relation between friction factor and Reynolds number for laminar
flow and turbulent flow through circular pipes? Write the equations.

4. a) What is a flow field? Explain.


b) Define Fanning friction factor, equivalent diameter and hydraulic radius.
c) Discuss about the velocity profile for the flow of a Newtonian fluid through a
circular pipe and draw the velocity profiles for laminar and turbulent flow
conditions in a circular pipe.
