Discovery Flexibles Limited, based in Dundee, is Scotlands leading flexible packaging converter supplying customers within the food,

pharmaceutical and pet food industries. With our focus on innovation, Discovery Flexibles have been responsible for developing numerous packaging materials to meet changing customer and industry demands. We have consistently set ourselves apart from our competitors in the flexible packaging market by developing and improving on material specifications, ink usage and, more recently, developing compostable packaging solutions. An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Development Technologist to closely support the production processes at our Dundee site. Reporting to the Process Development Manager, you will be responsible for day to day QC ensuring that our products consistently meet our customers requirements. Other key duties and responsibilities will include: analysis of production and quality data to identify areas for improvement, develop solutions and implement; managing the QC Laboratory ensuring testing is carried out to the required standards. This may include training and development of new test methods; communicating with customers and supplying certificates of conformance; assisting on trials ensuring lab tests are completed on trials; providing back up to the Process Development Manager for on-site Recipe process control system; providing support to technical team for technical queries, development projects, etc.

Suitable applicants must possess a relevant Science degree / qualification. Knowledge of polymers and/or polymer chemistry would be a distinct advantage although not essential. Previous experience gained in a production environment or industrial laboratory would be beneficial as would knowledge of good laboratory and manufacturing practice. Potential candidates will need to show evidence of: practical laboratory skills; excellent IT skills (MS Office, databases) good communication skills for effective liaison and teamwork; problem-solving skills, analytical skills and attention to detail; excellent organisational skills and the ability to work on several tasks or projects concurrently; presentation skills to present ideas and findings to colleagues and customers; the ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently, with minimum supervision; drive, enthusiasm and self-motivation; knowledge of quality systems, eg 5S, 6 Sigma.

This position is permanent fulltime based on 36 hours per week (0830 1700 Monday to Thursday, 0830 1330 on Fridays). Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
