1 Overview
The single site function verification test is a part of the WCDMA network optimization to ensure that the basic functions of the cells of a cluster, such as call access, call communication, handover and so on, are normal before each is separately optimized. The equipment function acceptance test can tell what proportion of the call drops, access failures and the like problems are caused by poor network coverage and what are caused by equipment faults, helping us to better locate the problems to solve by optimization for a higher network optimization efficiency. figure 1 is the network optimization flow extracted from WCDMA RNO Radio Network Optimization Operation Guide. As the figure shows, the single site function verification is performed at the stage prior to the cell-based optimization and after the Cluster partitioning and team construction in the network optimization flow. The single site function verification is the cell-based equipment function acceptance test to verify if the equipment of each cell is sound. Through the single site function verification, the following functions for each cell shall be checked as normal: Verify coverage ( CPICH RSCP & Ec/Io ) Verify scrambling code Verify no installation faults (e.g. crossed feeders) Make service call test

In the following text, the preparation work of single site function verification is first described (Section 2), and then, the single site function verification method and process (Section 3). Finally, the relevant data tables and check list used for the function acceptance test are presented (appendixes).

2 Single Site Function Verification Preparation work

Before the time-consuming single site function verification, we should only ensure the following conditions have been met. The network optimization engineer should cooperate with the product support engineer to finish the preparation of single site function verification preparation work.

2.1

Alarm Check
The focus is on the board faults and the transmission faults of various NEs (RNC, NODEB,

MSC, SGSN and the like) using LMT or M2000. For all the alarms, analyze the causes and try to eliminate all of them. Usually, the product support engineer will be responsible for checking and resolving all the alarms. It is important for the optimization engineer prior to any field test to check with product support engineer regarding any alarms especially intermittent alarms ( for example: transmission

alarms which can be automatically recovered as these indicate network instability and will negatively impact the service).

2.2

Cell Status Check

Use the LMT of RNC or M2000 to check the status of each cell, for instance, whether the

cell has been created, whether the valid data indication of the cell is valid, and whether the background management state of the cell is in the unblocked state. Running the DSP CELL MML command on RNC LMT can check the cell state. For an abnormal state, analyze the cause and try to eliminate the faults. Usually, the product support engineer will be responsible for checking and resolving all the cell state problems. It is important for the network optimization engineer prior to any field test to confirm with product support engineer regarding cell state.

2.3

Radio Part Parameters Configuration Check

Check equipment version and radio part parameters configuration, especially the scrambling

code, algorithm switch, power setting, neighbor cell list, handover parameter, access threshold and syn/asyn parameters. As for neighbor list, the check must be done not only to intra-frequency neighbor list, but also to inter-frequency neighbor list and inter-RAT neighbor list. Please refer to WCDMA RNP Radio Parameter Configuration List for the parameters to be checked, and WCDMA RNO 3GOT User's Guide for the methods to obtain the parameters. It is the network optimization engineer who checks and analyzes the radio part parameters. The following items shall be included in the parameter checking.

2.3.1 Scrambling Code Check

The scrambling code check pays attention to whether there are any scrambling code reusing and the distance of two cells with same scrambling code. If there are no overlap areas between two cells with same scrambling code, there are no problems to configure the same scrambling code. Scrambling code checking shall be done with the 3GOT software and please refer to WCDMA RNO 3GOT User's Guide for the scrambling code checking methods.

2.3.2 Algorithm Switch Check

The algorithm switch check pays attention to whether the algorithm switch setting in RNC is as same as the algorithm switch in baseline. If there are any different between RNC and baseline, the optimization engineer shall notify the produce support engineer to modify in time. Otherwise the single site function verification may be affected. The algorithm switch baseline is supplied by the person who answers for the parameter export. As an example for UAE 3G project, the person who answers for the parameter export is the system engineer Zhangjiayi. And the algorithm switch baseline is maybe different from the

produce default setting. The algorithm switch shall be queried by the 3GOT software or by the RNC LMT. Notes: The algorithm switch is not provided to the operator. And the algorithm switch parameters are not shown in the radio parameter configuration list.

2.3.3 Algorithm Parameters Check

In the algorithm parameters checking, all of the parameters in the WCDMA RNP radio parameter configuration list shall be checked, especially the power setting, handover parameter, access parameter, syn/asyn parameters and so on. The algorithm parameter check pays attention to whether the algorithm parameter setting in RNC is as same as the algorithm parameter in baseline. If there are any different between RNC and baseline, the optimization engineer shall analyze the cause of parameter changing, such as parameter adjusting for building test and parameter updating for version update, the effect of parameter changing, such as improving the handover success rate and making easier for ping-pang handover. Then the optimization engineer shall decide the next operation with the operator engineer, such as keeping the parameter value or changing the value as same as the baseline. The algorithm parameter baseline is supplied by the person who answers for the parameter export. As an example for UAE 3G project, the person who answers for the parameter export is the system engineer Zhangjiayi. And the algorithm parameter baseline is maybe different from the produce default setting. The algorithm parameter shall be queried by the 3GOT software or by the RNC LMT.

2.4

Neighbor cell list check

The neighbor cell list checking are include the intra-frequency neighbor cell list checking, the

inter-frequency neighbor cell list checking and the inter-RAT neighbor cell list checking. Pay attention to whether the neighbor cell list is in reason. The neighbor cell list checking shall be done by the 3GOT software. If the pilot test data has been obtained, the pilot test result shall be referenced in the neighbor cell checking. The optimization engineer shall check the neighbor cell list with the operator engineer. Especially for the inter-RAT neighbor cell list checking, since the network optimization engineer doesnt know the 2G cell configuration parameters, this work shall be done by the operator engineer leading.

After all the parameter checking has been finished, the optimization engineer shall export the parameter check analyze report to the operator, and tidy the whole XXX project WCDMA RNP Radio Parameter Configuration List for using in the single site function verification.

3 Single Site Function Verification

The single site function verification test is cell-based. It includes the following contents need to check: Coverage check. Through checking the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io, the cell coverage status shall be realized, the downlink transmission power and the additional downlink interfere shall be checked. Scrambling code check. Through comparing the scrambling code from site verification test and from planning in a special place, the crossed feeders shall be found out. Uplink transmission power check. Through comparing the uplink transmission power between the primary diversity receiver turn on only or the second diversity receiver turn on only, the uplink crossed feeders shall be found out. Routine test for voice service, VP service, PS service. Check to ensure the service functions at the control plane and the user plane of the CS/PS domain of all cells are normal. Conduct a simple drive test to check if the handover function is normal.

For single site function verification, the following tools and software shall be needed. Drive test scanner, used for collection the pilot signal data. The Agilent E6455C is used as the drive test scanner now; Test UE, used for service verification and system message collection. The Qualcomm 6200 mobile is used for voice and PS service test. Since the Qualcomm mobile could not support the VP service, the Motolora A830 mobile or the Siemens U15 mobile is used for the VP service test. Data collection software, used to display and log the signal strength, UE status, signal message and so on in time. The Agilent E6474A is being used now. Data analyze software, used to resolve message, analysis signal, solve problem and so on. The Actix Analyzer and DataAssistant is being used now. The single site function verification is often carried out on per-NODEB basis. According to the experiences of the CDMA optimization, the function verification of one site usually takes about two to four hours [2]. So we could choose part of sites (10% to 15% sites) for testing if the time be limited. The network optimization engineer shall be the principal body for the work. They should cooperate with the product support engineer for the troubleshooting of the equipment.

Confirm with the customer's optimization engineer if the power of all sites is suitable for transmission.

Realize the alarm problem and cell current status of verified site from product support engineer.

Get the idle terminal number and the PSTN telephone number for the test. Check the drive test tools (UE + Scanner) working normal. Copy the checklist into paper, the checklist table is shown in appendix. The whole XXX Project WCDMA RNP Radio Parameter Configuration List is going to being used.

Learn the instance of verified site before the verification, such as cell ID, scrambling code, omni site or directional site, azimuth and down tilt of antenna, antenna height, propagation environment and so on.

Determine the test points and test route on the map and make sure that one test point is selected for one sector. The method of determining the test point and test route shall be found in the following chapters.

3.2

Test Process
The following work should be done for the test: 1. 2. Arrive the test point of sector 1. Power on the Qualcomm mobile, the WCP indication is shown on the mobile screen. Mobile setup process is complete. It means the LA update procedure is OK, the RA update procedure is OK, the PS attach is OK. (If the WC is shown on the mobile, it means the LA update is OK. If the P is shown on the mobile, it means the RA update and the PS attach is OK. ) 3. 4. Choose Menu -> 5 -> 9 -> 2 on Qualcomm mobile, PS detach is OK. Setup the Agilent E6474A software, start data logging. Observe the Qualcomm mobile logging data from Agilent software: Observe cell frequency and scrambling code from UMTS CPICH View window, shown in figure 2; Observe CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io, shown in figure 3. (Notes: The CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io shall be got from scanner or Qualcomm mobile. The difference between the scanner and Qualcomm mobile is the antenna of scanner is out-car but the antenna of Qualcomm mobile is in-car. Commend to use the Qualcomm mobile to check the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io. When we use the Qualcomm mobile to check the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io, the Io and Ec/Io shall be obtained, the CPICH RSCP shall be obtained through calculation: Ec = Ec/Io + Io.)

The problems found in the function verification drive test include: call failure of the calling or called party, call drop, the quality of conversation, handover failure. As the problem happened, the test should be made again to make sure if they are repeatable. The problem recording list should be filled in and the product support engineer should be encouraged to solve the problems. Track the problems until they are solved.

3.4

Notice items

3.4.1 Site choose

If the time be limited we could choose part of sites (10% to 15% sites) for testing. The principles for choosing site according to these rules: 1. Choose site which coverage the keystone area; 2. Choose site which has heave traffic; 3. Choose site which coverage a wide area; 4. Choose site according to the operator request.

3.4.2 Test Point Choose

Since the 3G test mobile can not support the frequency locking and scrambling code locking function now, and we want to ensure that the test service is just happened in the verified cell, we shall choose the test point where the target cell signal strength is strong enough and the other cells signal strength is poor. The test points should be chosen near the cell centers and best with line-of-sight to the base station. In this way we can ensure the signal coverage is good enough and without signal strength undulate. The test points should not be chosen under the site. For the signal strength of other sectors of same site is strong too. If the pilot test has been finished, we are able to choose the test points according to the signal strength distribution of each cell which has been got from the pilot drive test. Otherwise we shall choose the test point through the scanner in the single site verification. 3.4.3 Test Route Choose The driving test route should connect the test points of the sectors. It is required that signals not be shelter from buildings along the test route to avoid turning the test into a coverage test. The figure below shows the way to select the test points and the test route.

3.4.4 Diversity Receiver (DRX) check method

When the DRX is used, the DRX checking used to affirm that the diversity receiver antenna crossed.

figure 7

DRX verification

If the receive antenna crossed, the uplink diversity receive gain is loss, and the uplink interfere is doubled. It will affect the uplink capability. And this problem is hard to be checked out by general downlink pilot test. So in the single site verification test the DRX check shall be needed. The possible test methods for DRX check include:

Method 1: Switch the transmitter of verified cell from one antenna to another, check the downlink transmission power changed or not. If no change happened, it means that there is no crossed-DRX problem.

figure 8

Switch Transmitter Antenna

Method 2: Add the CW transmitter on Rx2, set the same Tx power as the cell. Check the cell downlink transmission power and the CW downlink transmission power are same or not. If no change happened, it means that there is no crossed-DRX problem.

Method 3: Close the Rx1 and leave the Rx2, log the mobile transmission power; Close the Rx2 and leave the Rx1, log the mobile transmission power. Compare the two uplink transmission power. If no change happened, it means that there is no crossed-DRX problem. Notes: We has checked the DRX by method 3 and found that it is not feasible, since the mobile transmission power is fluctuated in 20 dBs at the same place.
