Instructions for the use of the DEECD Training Needs Analysis

This document is intended to be used by Workplace Managers and/or Management OHS Nominees to assist in the identification of OHS training needs and competencies for specific job roles within the workplace. The pre- populated job roles, training requirements and competencies specified in this template are a guide only and modification should be made in accordance with identified OHS training and competencies and job roles that are specific to the school/workplace. This template assists in meeting the requirements of DEE-EHU-26-1-1 Induction and Training Procedure. The training requirements and competencies specified are divided in to the following areas: DEECD funded OHS training: Please refer to the Anaphylaxis Management in Schools guidelines for training requirements and funding. Webinars Return-to-Work (RTW) Coordinator training is a webinar based course run by the Departments WorkSafe Insurer CGU.

DEECD Online Training: These training courses can be accessed via the DEECD Eduweb Portal. It is highly recommended that all staff complete the Workplace Behaviour and Bullying modules and that Workplace Managers/School Principals and Assistant Principals, Health and Safety Representatives, and maintenance staff complete the Asbestos Management module. Required Training: Employee OHS Induction and Emergency Control Organisation (Emergency Evacuation) training are required for all staff in all workplaces. This should be included in the workplace training calendar on a periodic basis. First Aid training (including the number of employees to be trained) is to be determined by completing a First Aid Risk Assessment. The Health and Safety Representative and Management OHS Nominee training courses are a requirement under the OHS Act (Vic) 2004. The VRQA accredited, Course in Safe Use of Machinery for Technology Teaching (Woodwork and Metalwork) (21820VIC) provides relevant training for teachers to pas s the competency test and to assist them develop and implement the safe use of machinery tests appropriate for their school and students. Risk & Hazard Management Training: This type of training can be done as a whole of staff PD information on each can be found on the hazard management webpage within the DEECD Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
