Question 4
English is very useful because it is widely spoken
around the world. However I disagree with the
statement that people dont really need to learn other
languages.
First of all, when people travel abroad for business or
a holiday, it helps if they can speak the language of the
country they are visiting.
While English is the language of international
communication, Europeans are expected to learn
French, German or more importantly, Spanish, which
is also a world language. This can help your career
because many jobs demand a second language other
than English.
Finally, when learning a foreign language, you learn
about a culture and the identity of a nation. As good
citizens of Europe and the world, it is unfair to expect
everyone to speak English. On the contrary, people
should make every effort to learn at least one other
foreign language.
English is an important world language but it is not the
only one. English speakers need to learn foreign
languages for communication, travel and work.
