Instructions for Electronic Immobiliser on Mexican Beetle

Electronic keys
Two electronic keys are attached to the vehicle keys, one coloured black and one master key coloured red. It is possible to programme up to four black electronic keys. The red master key must be kept separately in a secure place as it is needed to re-programme electronic keys and to programme additional keys at authorised Volkswagen workshops. In case of loss it is not possible to carry out programming and it is necessary to install a new immobiliser system in the vehicle.

Activation of the system

The immobiliser system activates itself automatically 30 seconds after the car is switched off.

Deactivation and ignition

To deactivate the system and enable the vehicle to be started it is sufficient to place one of the digital keys close to the ignition lock while the key is turned. It is suggested that one of the black electronic keys is attached to the vehicle ignition key. Notes: Do not conceal the electronic key inside your hand when starting the vehicle. The electronic key should hang freely. Only use the black electronic key attached to the vehicle keys to deactivate the system. Do not use the red master key or use both electronic keys. This can cause the black key to deprogramme. The system will only de-activate if one of the electronic keys is close to the ignition lock when the ignition key is turned to start the car. When leaving the vehicle, even for a moment, you must take the ignition key and the electronic keys with you, especially when leaving children in the vehicle. Otherwise, the engine could start unintentionally and risk causing an accident.

Re-programming the keys

If any of the black electronic keys de-programme or you need to programme an additional key, go to an authorised Volkswagen workshop.

Replacements
Replacement electronic keys can be requested from authorised Volkswagen workshops.

Additional points from the quick reference card

The red transponder allows the car to be started if the black transponder is lost, as well enabling additional black transponders to be programmed. The transponders are waterproof and do not require batteries or maintenance. Just take care not to damage through impact.
