h) Draw a sketch of hemisphere and solid cone. Show the position of c.g. of them, on sketch. i) j) What is centroid? How does it differ from centre of gravity? A lifting machine has a law P = 0.05 W + 10 N. Calculate maximum M.A. and effort required to lift a load of 1 kN. What is friction in the machine? How, it is represented?

a) Two forces of 36N and 43N are acting at and away from the point, having included angle 47. Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant force. b) A force of 40N is acting at a point. It has a component of 30N at an angle of 40 with the force. Determine the other component and its inclination, with the given force. c) Find the resultant and show it on sketch. (Fig. No. 1)

a) Find the tension in each part AB, BC, and unknown weight W, when a string is fixed at A and D as shown in Fig. No. 3

Fig. No. 3 b) A simply supported beam of span 5m is to carry a point load of 15kN at a distance 2m from left end and a udl 6kN/m is spread 4m from left end. Calculate support reactions. c) Calculate support reaction graphically for the beam as shown in Fig. No. 4

Fig. No. 4 d) Five strings are equally spaced and are meet at a common point. The tension in the last three strings is 12N, 16N and 8N. Find the tension in the remaining two strings, when it is in equilibrium. e) An overhanging beam is supported at A and B with AB=6m, BC=2m, BC being overhang. The beam carries udl 14 kN/m over entire span 8m. Calculate support reactions, if self wt. of beam is 1kN/m. f) A simply supported beam, carries a load W at adistance x from left end. The span of the beam is 6m. Find x, so that reactions will be equal.

a) Calculate centroid of a L-section (ISA) 90 90 8 mm. b) A Tee section has a top flange 200 12 mm2 and web 240 18 mm2. Calculate its centroid w.r.t. topflange c) A hemisphere of base diameter 35mm is fixed to the base of a solid cone of base diameter 35mm and height 40mm. Calculate the c.g. of a compound fig. so formed. d) A frustom of a cone has top diameter 40mm and base diameter 60mm. The height of the frustom is 18mm. Calculate its c.g. with respect to base. e) A solid cone of base diameter 28mm and height 48mm is removed from a solid cylinder of base diameter 28mm and height 100mm. Calculate c.g. of the remaining. f) Calculate centroid of the shaded portion Fig. No. 5

a) A body of wt. 100N is resting on a rough horizontal plane. It is just pulled by a horizontal force 37 N. Calculate coefficient of friction and angle of friction. b) A body of wt. 400N is resting on a horizontal plane. It is just pulled by a force of 135N applied at an angle 30 with the horizontal. Calculate coefficient of friction. c) A body, resting on a rough horizontal plane, can be pulled or pushed by a force 40N. If the wt. of the body is 100N. Calculate the angle of repose. d) A ladder is resting against a smooth vertical wall and a rough horizontal floor, with coefficient of friction 0.5. Calculate the inclination of the ladder with the horizontal. e) State whether the block A will move or not as shown in Fig. No. 6. Justify your answer.

Fig. No. 6 f) A body of weight 300N is placed on an inclined plane, inclined with 25 with the horizontal. The coefficient of friction is 0.6. Calculate the force required to pull the body down the plane.

a) A load of 350N is lifted by an effort of 20N. If V.R.=25, calculate efficiency and effort lost in friction. b) A load of 250N is lifted by an effort of 35N and 1kN load is lifted by an effort of 80N. State maximum M.A. and effort required to lift a load of 500N. c) A lifting machine has a law P = 0.025 W + 10N with V.R. = 75, state, with reason, whether the machine is reversible or not. d) A screw jack has a pitch 6mm with lever arm 750mm. Calculate its V.R. If a car of wt. 2 kN is lifted by it, at an efficiency of 30%, calculate the effort required and ideal effort. e) In a lifting machine 5kN load is lifted by an effort of 80 N, at an efficieny of 70%. Calculate ideal load and ideal effort. f) Following observations are taken on a lifting machine with V.R.=60. Find the law of machine by plotting a graph and calculate max. efficiency.
