Functional Overview
The CimCore 3000 series portable articulating arm coordinate measurement system is a powerful tool for 3dimensional digitizing, inspection, and reverse engineering. Its lightweight design and portability allow for easy inspection at multiple work sites, as well as quick mounting in any orientation for easy measurement in tight or confined spaces. The CimCore 3000 series offers reliable, high accuracy data for use with a wide variety of software packages, and exporting to most popular computer assisted drafting (CAD) programs. The CimCore 3000 system consists of the CimCore Arm, a computer, and power supply. The entire system can be set up in minutes and requires only a single operator. All software functions can be performed by a remote-control mouse, located on the wrist of the measuring arm, while audio feedback helps to guide the operator through inspection routines.

Technical Overview
The CimCore 3000 series portable articulating arm coordinate measurement Arm is constructed from highgrade carbon fiber, which is inherently temperature stable. The construction duplicates and enhances the movement and reach of the human arm (shoulder, elbow, and wrist), plus infinite rotation of principal axes. Each element offers two degrees of freedom. The Arm is available in a variety of lengths and there are extended measurement options available to permit accurate inspection of parts and assemblies larger than the Arms measuring envelope. Data collection is obtained through various contact, non-contact, laser, and speciality probes. The CimCore 3000 series system works in tandem with a variety of software packages that are accessed via the proprietary WINRDS software drivers provided with the system.

Replacing the Recording Buttons__

The buttons should be replaced solely by a qualified and trained technician. Replacing the buttons without approval can cause significant damage to your instrument.

Determining If a Power Conditioner is Required

This is a brief explanation of when a power conditioner should be used with the CimCore 3000 series systems.

When a Power Conditioner is Always Required

A power conditioner is always required when the CimCore 3000 system is used on a power circuit shared with heavy equipment, such as brakes, mills, large air conditioners, and especially arc welders. These machines generate excessive amounts of conducted noise that may interfere with system operations.

When a Power Conditioner May be Required

A power conditioner may be required when there is heavy machinery connected to a circuit that runs near the circuit that the CimCore 3000 system is using. Noisy circuits can generate radiated noise of a clean circuit nearby. This situation is hard to predict without knowing how the facility is wired.

When a Power Conditioner May Not be Required

A power conditioner may not be required (but is still recommended) if the power circuit is known to be separate from any heavy machinery, large air conditioners, etc.

Confirming Communications
This section describes the procedure for confirming that all of the components of your CimCore 1000/3000 system are talking to one another. This is vital to system operation.

WINRDS Confirming Communications

Be sure that the WINRDS software key is properly placed on the printer parallel port. 5. Place the CimCore Model 1000/3000 on the Linear Rail and power on the complete system. 6. Use Figure 1-2 for reference. Connect the 15mm ball probe to the CimCore 1000/3000 by aligning the pins at the base of the probe with the sockets and the guide pins with the guide slots. Correct alignment is assisted by matching the alignment hole on the Arms socket with the slightly recessed hole on the shaft of the probe.

7. Insert the probe straight and lock it snugly in place by twisting the probe adapter (black twisting handle). CAUTION: Do not over tighten probe adapter, but be sure that it is well attached. 8. Double click on the ARM UTILITIES shortcut icon on your desktop screen. NOTE: If you do not have a ARM Utilities icon, refer to Page 2 and 3 of this manual for instructions on creating the icon. WINRDS will begin to communicate with the arm. The following screen will appear.

Figure 1-3. WINRDS Screen 6. If the screen does not appear as shown in figure 1-3 above, select CANCEL. If it does appear as shown above, reset the axes as described in steps 10 and the following.

9. Place a check in the box next to Enable Linear Rail and select OK. 10. From the main Utilities Screen select CONNECT and RESET ARM. 11. Place the arm in the Home Position (see Figures 1-6 and 1-7) to reset the axes. The Home Position is obtained by the particular placement of each axes. The A, B, and C axes (shoulder to elbow) should be parallel to the surface and the D, E, and F axes (elbow to finger) should be perpendicular to the surface.

Figure 1-7. Home Position 12. Rotate the arm by moving all the axes. As each axis is reset, the bars will turn blue. The H axis is used with a Linear Rail System and will remain clear during the reset process until you slide the arm on the rail past the reset location. The typical reset location is the left end of the rail as the operator looks at the rail. 13. Once all the bars have turned blue (indicating that the reset is now complete) the operator will have mouse control while holding the CimCore 1000/3000. The arm now acts as a 3-dimensional mouse for screen selections while in WINRDS. The movement of the wrist and finger (E and F axes) allows for fluid mouse control. The Arms middle button acts as the left mouse button. NOTE: All of the software functions on the screen can be accessed using the mouse functions of the CimCore 1000/3000 Arm. Moving the wrist to the left moves the pointer to the left. Moving the wrist to the right moves the pointer to the right. Moving the wrist up or down causes similar movement of the pointer on the screen. The Arms middle button acts the same as the left button of a PC mouse. 13 Verify the WINRDS 2.3 ArmSpecs conversion by placing the probe in a hole that cups the 15mm ball probe while moving the elbow axis and watching the movement of the z value on the screen. There should be very little variation in the z value if the data was correctly translated.

14 To exit WINRDS, place the screen pointer on the box with the X in the upper right corner of the screen (Windows close button) and press the Arms middle button. NOTE: ArmSpecs data is located in a folder called ARMDATA under \PROGRAMS\CimCore\WINRDS 2.3 in either the C or D drive. The specific drive is determined on the basis of whether or not you have a dual boot computer system.
