Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur is one of the NITs established in Jaipur known as Pink City. Institute was established as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan in 1963. MNIT campus spreads over 325 acres of lush green area in the central location of Jaipur city. In the year 2012-13 the institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee through year-long programmes for its 50 years of excellence in academics. At present the Institute offers undergraduate and post graduate courses (M.Tech./M.Sc. & Ph.D.) to about 5000 students in almost all leading fields of engineering, technology, management and sciences. The Institute has renowned faculty; and labs with state of the art research grade equipments. Scope of STTP
The STTP is planned to cover the integration of some of the topics of Strength of Materials along with Analysis & Design of Machine Elements and Analysis & Design of Structures with commercially available CAD tools. With authentic free availability of computer aided design & engineering tools particularly for faculty & students of engineering institutes, the teaching learning process to these subjects can be revolutionised through integration of workflow and industry standards which is inherent in these tools. The organisation of such STTP is an annual feature and it is third STTP this time. Students of Mechanical & Civil Engineering have taken this integration very positively at all levels be it student projects or real life project handling; and over and above class room productivity for these subjects has improved appreciably. The implementation case studies of last few years will be shared along with access to recourses sharing platforms. The course co-ordinators strongly believe that armed with these tools co-faculty members can benefit from this experimented and tested genuine initiative of Quality Improvement in Mechanical / Civil Engineering, whereby these courses are taught / learned by integrating these tools. About Mechanical Engg. Deptt.

Mechanical engineering department started functioning in 1963 at the start of the institute. The department offers a four-year course leading to the Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. It also offers four fulland part-time postgraduate courses in Design Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering & Energy Engineering. Department also offers Ph. D programme in various specializations of the Mechanical Engineering.

Course Contents
1) Introduction to Autodesk Inventor platform work environment. 2) Learning Design builder, COMSOL Multiphysics & HSM CAM modules of Autodesk Inventor. 3) Solving Strength of Materials problems through Autodesk Inventor. 4) Solving Mechanical Design Problems i.e. Power Transmission, Fastening etc. by Autodesk Inventor. 5) Solving Truss and Structural Design problems by Autodesk Inventor. 6) Solving Manufacturing problems i.e. CAD based part programming by Autodesk Inventor. 7) Solving Solid-Fluid interfacing problems through Autodesk Inventor. Learning by reference through updated Engineers Handbook as Design Data book. Regular hands on practice is planned for integrating the tool to verify the problem sums worked out in tutorial hour out of the concepts of subjects like Strength of Materials and Analysis & Design of Machine & Structural Elements for Mechanical & Civil Engineering students.

About Autodesk Tools

Autodesk tools of CAD/CAE are widely used by the industry since the inception of AutoCAD. Their popularity among students and educators especially in India shot up with its MOU with AICTE in 2010 for free use. Autodesk Inventor is a industry leader tool for manufacturing. Its capabilities got enhanced through the integration of COMSOL Multiphysics & HSM CAM modules. MNIT Jaipur has faculty members who are Autodesk Certified Instructors and Evaluators. 3D CAD design contest (http://www.3dstudentdesign.com/) being held at IIT Madras is a hit among the students. MNIT Jaipur is also an academic partner for this competition.

About Centre of Excellence

Centre of Excellence in Design is a central facility of MNIT Jaipur which has recently been established with a budget of Rs. 5 crores. The centre posses 120 each seats of the best in industry designing tools especially on Autodesk Design Suite and Altair Hyper Works platform with high end work stations in all engineering domains. As a recent trend, out of competition / MOUs; individual versions of these commercial CAD tools are also freely available for students and educators. Students can have these tools in their laptops and solve / verify their design problem during the tutorial / assignment hours thus making the teaching learning process more productive, effective and industry relevant.

Accommodation & Target Participants
