Ever since man crept out of the caves and started to construct buildings he has been using mortar in some shape or form. The first break through came in the 20th century with the use of liquid bonding agents and the second more than 50 years ago with the development by WACKER of dry polymer binders the dispersible powders. Green building is a topic that is on everyones lips and we are constantly working on more sustainable products. For example VINNAPAS 828 ND a well established dispersion has been further developed as it is now produced without the addition of APEO, plasticizers and solvents which helps our customers to develop environmentally friendly products. And our commitment doesn't just stop with our products we recently developed a PE bag for our polymer powders that contains 40% less PE.

SMALLER FOOTPRINT
Many of our products help to reduce the carbon footprint along the life cycle of construction products. By suppling VINNAPAS polymer powders for exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS) we help lower end-user heating costs, while cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. EIFS can reduce heating energy costs by 60% and cut the energy lost by air-conditioners by as much as 72%. We managed to reduce the specific energy consumption in Burghausen by ~40% in the past 10 years and we will continue to pursue a target of increasing energy efficiency by 5% in all our factories worldwide.

THE POWER OF POWDER

Speed and reliability are important factors when architects and building contractors are choosing building materials. A product should also be easy to use facilitating the work at the job site. When WACKER invented the polymer binder in the form of a powder in 1957, it became possible for the first time to use a one-pack cement system. A dry mortar is modified with VINNAPAS dispersible polymer powder in the factory, and only needs to be mixed with water on site. The result is a high-quality polymer-modified cement mortar with clearly defined properties. Factory-premixed mortars can be produced with the correct proportions of cement, fillers, additives and VINNAPAS dispersible polymer powders. This eliminates serious construction-site mixing errors. VINNAPAS dispersible polymer powders ensure good adhesion, even to smooth, non-porous surfaces. TILE ADHESIVES STICK WITH THE BEST

Tiles come in lots of different shapes and sizes. They can be heavy or light, porous or non- porous. VINNAPAS polymer powders will ensure tiles adhere to differing substrates in a wide range of conditions. Our polymers give you a long open time and adjustment time even at high ambient temperatures. High internal cohesive strength can also be maintained over long periods in extreme conditions such as freeze / thaw or wet /dry environments.

Regardless of the type of tile being used, the weakest point is the bond between the tile and the substrate. VINNAPAS N polymer powders eliminate this weakness by significantly improving the bonding strength of the adhesive between both the substrate and the tile. Its never been easier to fix large heavy tiles thanks to the excellent non-slump properties of thixotropic VINNAPAS T dispersible polymer powders. Our tile adhesives also act as a flexible buffer between tile and substrate compensating for thermal expansion and preventing cracking as a result of stress between the substrate and the tile. VINNAPAS Plus polymer powders are often used with porcelain tiles and on substrates that are subject to a certain degree of shrinkage and deformation movement. TILE GROUTS REMAIN FLEXIBLE

Tile grouts serve a dual purpose. They can enhance the visual appeal of the tiling and they can increase its durability. Since today's trend is toward colored grouts in various designs, it has become more important to help them to stay clean and retain their bright color. The addition of VINNAPAS polymer powders to tile grout mortars makes them more flexible and malleable. Adhesion to tile edges is also greatly improved and shrinkage is reduced, protecting the substrate against penetration of water.

SELF-LEVELING COMPOUNDS ITS ALL HAPPENING UNDER YOUR FEET

In the construction business, selfleveling compounds are used in nearly all buildings where flat, smooth and hard-wearing floors are required. With VINNAPAS polymer powders, you can formulate self-leveling compounds that are durable and firm enough to walk on soon after laying. They can be applied efficiently using a mortar pump, they adhere to many types of substrates and harden rapidly without cracking. These smooth, abrasion-resistant floors are able to withstand severe loads and are sufficiently flexible to allow large areas to be worked faster.

VINNAPAS PLUS PRODUCTS

VINNAPAS L-class polymer powders specially developed for self-leveling compounds improve both the mechanical properties and the flow properties. They achieve very smooth, defect-free surfaces when used in combination with casein and synthetic super-plasticizers. They also reduce surface bleeding and segregation. VINNAPAS F-class polymer powders for self-leveling compounds act as both a binder and a super-plasticizer. This feature is particularly advantageous for pumpable compounds, where mechanical mixing cuts mix times to a minimum. PATCHING AND JOINT COMPOUNDS STAY SMOOTH

Modern polymer based patching and joint compounds make quick work of holes and cracks in ceilings and walls. Compounds smooth out any irregularities and are differentiated according to the type of material they are used on: metal, wood, concrete etc. VINNAPAS enhances adhesion, cohesion and flexibility of patching compounds as well as skim coats and thus prevents cracking. For safe, fast, durable installation, compounds are modified with VINNAPAS dispersible powders. These improve ease of manual application, enhance paper bond adhesion and reduce water absorption, ensuring smooth and crack free surfaces. EXTERIOR INSULATION AND FINISH SYSTEMS CONSERVING YOUR ENERGY

The finite energy resources of the world are slowly running out. And as the search for renewable sources continues, the cost of energy continues to rise. One of the most efficient ways to save energy in buildings is by thermal insulation. The better the insulation the lower the running costs and environmental impact. Since they were first developed, VINNAPAS polymer powders, have played an integral role in the development of exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS). These systems require the use of Polymer binders as they consist of several layers that need stable and flexible interconnection. When fitted properly, exterior insulation and finishing systems can reduce energy costs of a building by as much as 60%.

VINNAPAS STANDARD PRODUCTS

For insulation systems to function properly they have to bond well to the substrate. Adhesive mortar modified with VINNAPAS polymer powders has three functions within this sandwich. First, it creates a stable bond between the insulation board and the wall. Second, it levels out irregularities of the substrate. And third, its flexible, allowing for expansion and contraction. The base mortar also plays another important role in rendering the EIFS system flexible and durable. The exterior insulation and finish system is permanently exposed to the elements. The durability of the entire system depends heavily on the degree to which it is saturated with moisture. In order for the system and the underlying walls to be protected, the base coat must repel water. This property can easily be conferred with the addition of VINNAPAS H polymer powders. They are hydrophobic and make the mortar highly water repellent. STUCCO/PLASTERS A GREAT FINISH STARTS HERE

As the exterior finish or skin of a building, exterior plasters perform two different functions. They have to look good and at the same time they must protect the substrate against weathering and moisture without sealing it - in effect allowing it to breath. Exterior plasters need to have good adhesion to the substrate while remaining flexible so as to prevent cracking. They have to have good water repellent properties and at the same time good drying characteristics.

Nothing damages a building more than water. Stucco / Plasters containing VINNAPAS H polymer powder are therefore the key to preventing weathering damage, as well as dirt pick-up on exterior plaster. WATER PROOFING MEMBRANES GO WITH THE FLOW

Water proofing membranes based on VINNAPAS polymer powders not only keep water out but also keep it in whether these are water pipes that need sealing or buildings that need lasting protection against damage. Not only that: these membranes also prevent dissolved salts, such as chlorides and sulphates, from penetrating into masonry. VINNAPAS polymer powders can also modify water proofing membranes so that they keep out water under pressure, are water vapor permeable, bridge cracks and adhere excellently to many different substrates. They are thus superior in many ways to traditional solutions such as cement-only and bitumen seals.

VINNAPAS STANDARD PRODUCTS

With VINNAPAS polymer powders, you can do more than produce water repellent water proofing membranes. The applications range from water proofing basement walls and foundations to sewer pipes and swimming pools. Cracks are not the problem they used to be when you use highly elastic water proofing membranes modified with VINNAPAS. They accommodate small movements in the substrate which means the elastic coating will not leak even if a component were to move (for example, due to temperature fluctuations). CONCRETE REPAIR MIND THE GAP

Concrete and reinforced concrete have dramatically altered the face of the construction industry in recent decades and concrete is one of the most durable and stable building materials. However, even concrete buildings can be brought to their knees by moisture, the damage becoming visible in the form of cracks or rust. With the growing demand for concrete, there will be even more need for concrete repair in future. For concrete renovation, mortars modified with VINNAPAS dispersible powders combine to offer crucial benefits: they improve adhesion to installed concrete and steel, increase deformability and flexural strength, lower the elastic modulus and improve processability and wetting properties.

Once the concrete has been treated with a primer, a cementitious repair mortar which has been modified with VINNAPAS polymer powder is applied. This is then covered with a fine finish layer of one to three millimeters. This layer which has been mixed with a polymer powder ensures good processing, prevents the thin layers from drying too quickly, raises the level of impermeability to CO2 and pollutants such as road salt, and improves freeze / thaw resistance. VINNAPAS dispersions are used in various high-performance construction materials. They confer excellent adhesion, cohesion, flexibility, hydrophobicity, rheology and long-term stability. Youll find them in all sorts of primers, exterior insulation and finish systems and synthetic resin bound plasters and renders, as well as mortar and concrete admixtures in e.g. repair mortars and water proofing membranes. VINNAPAS products are consistently being updated and were regularly introducing new dispersions to the market. To ensure that you dont get confused and can easily find the rightdispersion for your needs, weve dividedVINNAPAS dispersions into Standard and Plus categories, where each product is named according toits specific characteristics. The new naming system for our dispersions reflects product properties and is highly analogous to the nomenclature of dispersion powders. COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGY WITH OPTIMUM COMPOSITION

The new composite dispersions from VINNAPAS very cleverly combine inorganic and organic components to produce a product which allows colors to remain bright and not fade on building facades, thereby reducing the total number of facade renovation cycles. The core of the dispersions is made up of inorganic silica particles (the basis of quartz and glass) only a few nanometers in size that are surrounded by organic polymer particles. Normally, if mineral particles are simply mixed into an organic dispersion, the particles can agglomerate during filming and subsequently develop an uneven, heterogeneous film. The organic shell of the new composite dispersion now prevents inorganic-particle agglomeration during the film-forming process. Thus, a homogeneous and stable film forms. The special organic/inorganic combination also lends specific benefits to the dispersion. The elastic, organic components have conventional binder properties strong adhesion and cohesion, good mechanical properties and improved processability. The solid mineral components, for their part, have outstanding barrier properties, reducing dirt pick-up, ensuring long-lasting color shades and lowering the risk of algae or mold formation. Composite dispersions also feature improved scratch and abrasion resistance, high thermal stability, and optimal thermal conductivity and water-vapor permeability. Of particular note is their improved flame-retardancy due to the high non-flammable inorganic content.

EXTERIOR INSULATION AND FINISH SYSTEMS CONTROLLING YOUR TEMPERATURE

Regardless of whether the building is being heated or cooled, thermal insulation offers the greatest potential for saving energy. External insulation and finish systems are among the most efficient ways to reduce a building's energy consumption. VINNAPAS dispersions are polymer binders that enhance the adhesive and reinforcing mortars and compounds in exterior insulation and finish systems. They are designed to selectively modify the properties of adhesive and embedding mortar and compound. For adhesive mortars and compounds, 2-components systems are usual, while in embedding mortars and compounds the dispersions can be used in readyto-use as well as in 2-component systems. Our dispersions are versatile due to excellent compatibility with cement. VINNAPAS dispersions promote good adhesion to all substrates, are flexible enough to accommodate differing expansion coefficients of the materials used, and therefore offer optimal durability. Since EIFS are constantly exposed to the weather, effective protection against water is essential. VINNAPAS dispersions can be used to modify these systems, enabling them to withstand differing climatic conditions.

PRIMERS BE PREPARED
Most buildings are built one layer upon the next, with primers consolidating the substrate to ensure the long-term durability of each subsequent layer. VINNAPAS dispersions confer the right properties to a wide range of primers for indoor and outdoor use. They ensure good adhesion and low absorption by the substrate surface. The modification can be a kind of impregnation, equalization, stain blocking and/or migration barrier. As a whole, polymermodified primers reduce a substrate's absorbency, acting as a bonding agent between the substrate and the next layer. Primers under outdoor and humid conditions require water repellent properties, which is where hydrophobic VINNAPAS dispersions come into play. Polymer-modified primers for indoors are mainly used to consolidate open pore substrates such as concrete, cement and gypsum plasterboards. This gives emulsion paints and coatings an excellent hold, and the flexible properties of VINNAPAS help to bridge small cracks.

CONCRETE REPAIR CONCRETE SOLUTIONS

Concrete is used more than any other man-made material in the world. As of 2006, about 7.5 cubic kilometers of concrete are made each year, more than one cubic meter for every person on earth. Concrete is a very durable construction material; however, in today's environmental conditions, it can be damaged by carbonation of the concrete and corrosion of the steel reinforcement. For concrete renovation, mortars modified with VINNAPAS dispersions offer crucial benefits: they improve adhesion to installed concrete and steel, increase deformability and flexural strength, lower the elastic modulus and improve workability and wetting properties. They also reduce the ingress of substances causing carbonation of the concrete cover, and of substances that corrode the steel reinforcement. The first step is to clean the surface, remove all the affected concrete and sandblast the steel bars if required. A primer is then applied, followed by a base mortar. Then a finer mortar is applied prior to a final topcoat.

These dispersions increase adhesion of the mortar to the concrete substrate. CEMENT ADMIX PICK AND MIX

Skyscrapers, bridges and dams all require the highest standards of engineering. Admixes help ensure that these standards are fulfilled. These mixtures are specially formulated products that are added in small amounts to plaster, mortar or grout on site during the mixing process in order to modify properties in the plastic and/or hardened state. Our dispersions can be added to all types of mortar, from basic to ultrahigh strength. They improve placing, pumping, finishing, appearance and, in general, performance characteristics as desired.
