FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Vice President Al Gore to Help Kick-start

Save the Everglades Fall Campaign
Miami, September 1, 2009 – In an effort to raise money to protect the health

of the Everglades, a national ecological treasure, Save the Everglades announces

the start of its fall campaign Do Your Part to Save the Everglades. A press

conference featuring former Vice President Al Gore will be held at 10 a.m. on

Monday, Sept. 14, at Save the Everglades Headquarters located at 225 NW 27th

Ave., Miami.

The “Do Your part to Save the Everglades” campaign will focus on raising

public awareness about the dangers facing the Everglades: urban sprawl, poor

water management and unchecked agricultural growth that have reduced the

Everglades to half its original million acres. Outreach will involve e-mail petition

drives, interactive forums on Save the Everglades web site and a virtual march on

Congress during the last week of November.

“Save the Everglades has been working since 1978 to call attention to this

environmental crisis and needs hundreds of volunteers and $ 1 million in donations

to accomplish our goals for the remainder of the year,” said Melanie Canes,

chairperson for Save the Everglades. “We hope everyone in South Florida will take

our new campaign seriously, and join us in protecting the everglades,” said Canes.

Answering the call to volunteer will be former Vice President Al Gore who is

an ardent environmentalist. Mr. Gore will be present at the press conference to

speak about the effects of global warming on the Everglades ecosystem. “There’s

no more important environmental crusade than the saving of the Everglades,” said

Gore.
