FIG. UHA-44 DELETED

UHA-51(a)(2) Each of the three specimens tested in each set shaH have a lateral expansion opposite the notch not less than O.OIS in. (0.38 mm) for MDMTs of -320F (-196C) and warmer. UHA-51(a)(3) When the MDMT is -320F (-196C) and warmer, and the value of lateral expansion for one specimen of a set is less than O.OIS in. (0.38 mm) but not less than 0.010 in. (0.2S mm), a retest of three additional specimens may be made, each of which must equal or exceed 0.015 in. (0.38 mm). Such a retest shaH be permitted only when the average value of the three specimens equals or exceeds O.OIS in. (0.38 mm). If the required values are not obtained in the retest or if the values in the initial test are less than minimum required for retest, the material may be reheat treated. After reheat treatment, new sets of specimens shall be made and retested; all specimens must meet the lateral expansion value of O.OIS in. minimum. UHA-5I(a)(4) When the MDMT is colder than -320F (-196C), production welding processes shall be limited to shielded metal arc welding (SMA W), gas metal arc welding (GMA W), submerged arc welding (SAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Each heat, lot, or batch of filler metal and filler metaVflux combination shall be pre-use tested as required by UHA-Sl(f)(4)(a) through (c). Exemption from pre-use testing as allowed by UHA-Sl(f)(4)(d) and (e) is not applicable. Notch toughness testing shall be performed as specified in (a) or (b) below, as appropriate. (0.S3 mm). (b) If using filler metals other than Type 308L or Type 3 I 6L; or when the base metal, weld metal, or heat affecteed zone are unable to meet the requirements of (a) above: ( J) notch toughness testing shall be conducted at a test temperature not warmer than MDMT, using the ASTM E 1820 lie method;
215

UHA-5I(c) Required Impact Testing When Thermal Treatments Are Performed. Impact tests are required at the

colder of 70F (20C) or the MDMT, whenever thermal treatments 1 within the temperature ranges listed for the following materials are applied: UHA -51 (c)( 1) austenitic stainless steels thermally treated at temperatures between 900F (480C) and 16S0F (900C); however, Types 304, 304L, 316, and 316L that are thermally treated at temperatures between 900F (480C) and 1300F (70SC) are exempt from impact testing provided the MDMT is -20F (-29C) or warmer and vessel (production) impact tests of the thermally treated weld metal are performed for Category A and B joints; UHA-5I(c)(2) austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steels thermally treated at temperatures between 600F (31SC) and 17S0F (9SSC); UHA -51 (c)( 3) ferritic chromium stainless steels thermally treated at temperatures between 800F (42SC) and l,3S0F (730C); UHA-5I(c)(4) martensitic chromium stainless steels thermally treated at temperatures between 800F (42SC) and l,3S0F (730C).

Table 5.2 Load Descriptions

Design Load Parameter P PS Description Internal and external specified design pressure Static head from liquid or bulk materials (e.g. catalyst) Dead weight of the vessel, contents, and appurtenances at the location of interest, including the following: Weight of vessel including internals, supports (e.g. skirts, lugs, saddles, and legs), and appurtenances (e.g. platforms, ladders, etc.) Weight of vessel contents under operating and test conditions Refractory linings, insulation Static reactions from the weight of attached equipment, such as motors, machinery, other vessels, and piping Appurtenance Live loading Effects of fluid momentum, steady state and transient Earthquake loads (see ASCE 7 for the specific definition of the earthquake load, as applicable) Wind Loads Is the pressure test wind load case. The design wind speed for this case shall be specified by the Owner-User. Snow Loads Is the self-restraining load case (i.e. thermal loads, applied displacements). This load case does not typically affect the collapse load, but should be considered in cases where elastic follow-up causes stresses that do not relax sufficiently to redistribute the load without excessive deformation.

(a) Postweld heat treatment requirements for quenched and tempered high strength steel materials listed in Table 3-A.4, are covered in paragraph 6.6.6. (b) Postweld heat treatment requirements for nonferrous materials are covered in paragraph 6.4.6. (c) 2Cr-1Mo-V and 3Cr-1Mo-V-B Materials The final postweld heat treatment shall be in accordance with the requirements of this Division for P-No. 5C materials. (d) 2Cr-1Mo Materials The final postweld heat treatment temperature shall be in accordance with the requirements of this Division for P-No. 5A materials, except that, for the materials listed in Table 3.1, the permissible minimum normal holding temperature is 650C (1200F) and the holding time shall be 2.5 minutes/mm (1 hr/in.). For thicknesses over 125 mm (5 in.), the holding time shall be 5 hr plus 0.6 min for each additional mm (15 min for each additional inch) over 125 mm (5 in.). (e) Postweld heat treatment requirements for all other materials are covered in the tables listed below. Except as otherwise provided in these tables, all welds in pressure vessels or pressure vessel parts shall be given a postweld heat treatment at a temperature not less than that specified in the applicable table based on the nominal thickness as defined in paragraph 6.4.2.7. The materials shown below are identified by P-Numbers and Group Numbers in accordance with QW/QB-422 of Section IX and are provided in Annex 3-A. for each material specification. P-No 6.4.2.4 The exemptions from postweld heat treatment permitted in paragraph 6.4.2.2 are not permitted when welding ferritic materials greater than 3 mm (1/8 in.) thick with the electron beam welding process, or when welding P-No 3, P-No 4, P-No 5A, P-No 5B, P-No 5C, P-No 6, P-No 7 (except for Type 405 and Type 410S), and P-No 10 materials using the inertia and continuous drive friction welding process. 6.4.2.5 When Holding Temperatures and Times May Be Exceeded. Except where prohibited in paragraph 6.4.2.2, holding temperatures and/or holding times in excess of the minimum values given in these tables may be used. A time-temperature recording of all postweld heat treatments shall be provided for review by the Inspector. The holding time at temperature specified in the table references of paragraph 6.4.2.2 need not be continuous. It may be an accumulation of time of multiple postweld heat treat cycles. 6.4.2.6 Heat Treatment of Pressure Parts Consisting of Different P-Number Groups. When pressure parts of two different P-Number groups are joined by welding, the postweld heat treatment shall be that required by the material having the higher postweld heat treatment temperature. When nonpressure parts are welded to pressure parts, the postweld heat treatment temperature of the pressure part shall control. 6.4.2.7 Definition of Nominal Thickness Governing Postweld Heat Treatment. The nominal thickness as used in this paragraph is the thickness of the welded joint as defined below. For pressure vessels or parts of pressure vessels being postweld heat treated in a furnace charge, it is the greatest weld thickness in any vessel or vessel part which has not previously been postweld heat treated. (a) When the welded joint connects parts of the same thickness, using a full penetration butt weld, the nominal thickness is the total depth of the weld exclusive of any permitted weld reinforcement. (b) For groove welds, the nominal thickness is the depth of the groove.
