A Representative should symbolize the spirit of the land and the people he represents. If I were Congressman, I would want my colleagues to say, That man is from the issouri !zar"s. #e has a strong alliance with his people, and they are peaceful and self$reliant. #is land is rugged and fertile, his streams flow freely, his air is clean, and his towns are filled with commerce

%RA %C &A ' The eramec &am (ro)ect is a crime against *ature. !n balance, it is simply not worth the sacrifice of thousands of acres of valuable !zar" farmland, woods and free$flowing streams. It is not worth the surrender of wildlife, age$old homesteads, and incomparable caverns. +urthermore, it is not worth the e,traordinary e,penditure of fuel and ta, money. The short$ lived benefits of an artificial playground can never match the natural value of a free$flowing river. The eramec -alley has been here for thousands of years. The proposed impoundment will not even last a fraction of that time before it is cho"ed with sand and gravel, fouled with pollutants and a disgrace to the beauty of the !zar"s. Those who say we must continue to bow to the onslaught of fun$see"ing city fol" are forgetting that these same people are overwhelmingly opposed to the eramec &am. It is deplorable that Richard Ichord has refused to poll us on this important issue. If I am elected, this dam, and all others in the district will be stopped. The .olden Age of Reservoirs is over. RIC#AR& IC#!R&' After si,teen long years, I thin" the people have outgrown Richard Ichord. In my opinion, time and events have passed him by. (eople tell me he has lost over /01 of his support in recent years. #e is still pushing for the eramec &am. #e is still trying to build a nerve gas factory in Ar"ansas. #e has made a dubious reputation with the #ouse 2n$American Activities Committee. 3ith two minor e,ceptions, he has never introduced any bill which has ever become public law. 4as year, he voted against ta, reductions, and he voted against the !lder Americans Assistance Act. Ichord voted against standards for safe drin"ing water, and he voted against the *oise (ollution Control Act. #e voted to increase the cost of +ood 5tamps by 661. #e tried to wea"en the +ederal (rivacy Act. #e has continually voted against arts and education bills, and he even voted against a proclamation recognizing %arth &ay7 This year he voted against public assistance to areas of high unemployment, and he chose not to vote at all when the #ouse approved disaster relief funds for victims of the Teton &am collapse, 689$9/. Can you thin" of any better reasons for me to run against r. Ichord: !;AR< 5%4+$R%4IA*C%' This Congressional district is a distinct region. I want to help preserve its culture, resources, and rural strength. That means better communications and assistance to everyone. I will begin a free newspaper for the entire district, and call it +ree Rivers, +ree (eople7= Ichord has "ept us in the dar" long enough. All we ever hear about is what>s going on in 3ashington ? which is mostly nothing at all. I want people to "now what is happening right here@in Columbia, in +ran"lin County, in the !zar"s. The paper will have polls and Auestionnaires, ideas for )obs and pro)ects, letters and reports on the issues. It will bring us all together and help us solve our problems. 3e are a half$million strong, and I promise you if I am elected to Congress, we will stay that way. Register by !ct. B, and vote on *ov.
