Differences Between 9600 Series and 4600 Series IP Telephones

Review this section if you administer both 4600 and 9600 Series IP Telephones. Signaling 46!! Series IP Telephones can use ".#$# or SIP for telephony si%nalin%. 96!! Series IP Telephones only use ".#$#. SIP related administration of 96!! telephones is neither necessary nor relevant. D%CP & SS'( 46!! telephones use (ption )*6 as the default +"&P Site Specific (ption ,umber -SS(,./ 96!! telephones use (ption $4$. )pgrade Script The up%rade script files have different names and content -046!!up%rade.scr1 versus 096!!up%rade.t!t1.. *ile Servers 46!! telephones can use either T2TP or "TTPS servers as file servers3 for e!ample3 to download new phone firmware3 up%rade script files3 or settin%s files. 96!! telephones only use "TTP or "TTPS. Bac+!p 46!! telephones use 2TP as the protocol to create and access bac4up files. 5sers can specify uni6ue bac4up server addresses3 bac4up directories3 2TP 5ser I+s3 and 2TP 5ser Passwords. 96!! telephones use "TTP as the protocol to create and access bac4up files3 and users have no options to chan%e bac4up parameters. 96!! telephones use the settin%s file parameter 7R5RI to identify the bac4up file site. The telephone e!tension number is always included in the bac4up filenames. In these e!amples3 1234 denotes the e!tension. Bac+!p *ile Content 8!cept for the 96)03 bac4up file contents are %enerally the same3 e!cept that the 96!! &ontacts data is stored as: AB,(A"-mmm = label AB,()"B-#mmm = telephone number AB,T.P-mmm = entry type

B(S3 &TI3 and ;>8RT >ocal Procedures are not supported by the 96!! telephones. ;lso3 there is no indication of IR interfaces in the I,T >ocal Procedure. 3ang!age ;s of Release ).)3 96!! IP Telephones allow lan%ua%e administration3 which was enhanced in subse6uent releases. ,ote that 4600 Series and 9600 Series IP Telephones mi%ht not support the same lan%ua%es3 and the lan%ua%e files differ between the two telephone series. S("P & "IBs ;lthou%h both 46!! and 96!! telephones support S,'P v$c and have custom 'ana%ement Information 7ases -'I7s.3 the 'I7s are formatted somewhat differently. ,ote that as of Release ).)3 S,'P is disabled by default in both IP Telephone series. ;dministrators must initiate S,'P by settin% the S,'P;++ and S,'PSTRI,C system values appropriately.
