LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the topic, the student will be able to:

1) Know the details of how to perform Jumaat prayer, the obligation of it, the khutbahs
obligations and the sunnah part of the khutbahs.
2) Can perform Jumaat prayer in confidence state.

MAIN IDEAS

1. The obligatory of two sermons

 To say Alhamdulillah.
 To say salawat on the Prophet (PBUH).
 To advise those present to fear Allah.
 To recite in either of the two sermons at least one verse from the Quran with
elucidation of its meaning.

2. Requirements of two sermons

 At least the obligatory parts of the sermons should be heard by the members of the
congregational not less than 40 including imam and khatib.
 To recite in the Arabic language at least the obligatory parts there of.
 The khatib should stand and deliver the sermons if he is able to do so, otherwise he
can sit while deliver his speech.
 To be free from the major or minor ceremonial impurities.
 To cover the essentially coverable parts of body (aurah).
 To sit for a sometimes in between the two sermons.
 To deliver each of the sermons consecutively without interruption.

3. Sunnah part in the 2 khutbahs.

1. Khatib give salam to the congregration while entering the masjid, while passing the
congregation, and while facing the congregation.
2. Hold in the left hand staff/ sword/ spears as a support.
3. Khutbah must be moderated in length, comprehensible and informative.
4. Deliver the khutbahs on the pulpit (mimbar).
5. When the last adhan is being called, khatib must sit on the mimbar, facing the
congregation.
6. Pray for the wives of prophet and his relatives, his companions, the followers, the first
four khalifahs and the Imams.
7. Go to mihrab immediately after finishing the khutbah and before the mu’azzin finishes
the iqamah.

4. Acts which are Makruh in the 2 khutbahs.

1) To turn and look forward any directions other than the congregations.
2) Point any sign with fingers.
3) Knock against his steps with the staff/ sword/ spears while delivering the khutbahs.
4) Recite any du’a immediately after ascending the pulpit and before sitting on it.
5) Deliver the second khutbah more hurriedly.
6) Praise the Sultans/ rulers excessively.
