Madhuri was the ladylike and pretty one, opposite to her sister. * Azreen behaved in unladylike fashion and even accidentally hit a spectator and caused his nose to bleed. *Azreens father did not forgive her for what happened to her mother since then. *Azreen was a loyal friend to Asraf by lying to protect him. * Asraf was wrongly accused of leaving the gate open and Azreen took the blame. Suddenly there was an accident between the bull and motorcycle and Azreens mother lost her leg. * It was actually the bomoh Awang who left the gate open, and since then he has been trying to look out for Azreen as a way to thank her for taking the blame for him.

Only Azreen cared enough to get close to the old lady and ignore the gossip. * Madhuris ghost was actually her real mother who had come back because she heard that her daughter had died. * When Azreen receives the letter from her sister after her death, it became clear that Madhuri was planning to run away from her husband with Asraf. Superstition vs. Reality * There is a logical explanation for the ghost it was Madhuris real mother.

* We must not lose our self-control because we will do things that we may regret later like when Asraf burnt down the Old Ladys house. * The Old Ladys advice to Azreen at her dying breath was that she must learn to forgive.

The actual murder of Madhuri

* The grand finale of the curse was when Saleh died after a series of deaths starting with Madhuri, his wife and even the Old Lady. * The white blood as in the curse was actually the white latex.

* In the end, Saleh died of shock at seeing Madhuris ghost who was actually her real mother. * Azreen had enough and left to begin a new life away from all the tragedy. * Azreen was intelligent enough to figure out the whole story * Saleh killed his own daughter with his parang when he found out Madhuri was having an affair with Asraf. The while blood was from the latex that spilt when she fell to the ground. Superstition vs. Reality * There is a logical explanation for the white blood it was spilt latex. * We must not lose our self-control because we will do things that we may regret later like when Saleh killed Madhuri in fury. * It was a shame that so much tragedy happened to Azreens family and all the villagers. The ending could have been better if Saleh did not die, but admitted to and regretted murdering his own daughter.

What is the significance of the title The Curse to the story?

The novel I have chosen is The Curse by Lee Su Ann. I enjoyed reading this novel because the storyline was quite interesting and exciting. There are a few reasons why I feel that the title The Curse has a big significance to the story. Firstly, I personally think that the curse is the main plot of the story even at the start of the story. This was proven when Pn. Kamsiah & her daughter Siti discussed about the village gossipmonger, Pn. Normala. This shows that Pn. Normala was not a nice character because she spread a lot of baseless gossip. She started the gossip about the curse and the white blood which she swore she saw. Therefore, the curse is the best title for the book as it is the main controlling idea. Secondly, from my perspective, I feel that the novel is filled with tragedies that seem to prove that there really is a curse. This can be seen when it rained heavily continuously and there was a fire at the Old Ladys house. This also proves that many bad things happened including when Asraf lost his mind when his grandmother died and blamed the Old Lady. He caused the villagers to burn her house down. Thus, the fire and the Old Ladys death is another tragedy that happened as part of the curse. Finally, in my opinion, I believe that The Curse is a very good title for the novel because almost all the key characters die at the end. For me, this was shown in the grand finale of the curse was when Saleh died after a series of deaths starting with Madhuri, his wife and even the Old Lady. Furthermore, in the end, Saleh died of shock at seeing Madhuris ghost who was actually her real mother. Hence, the deaths and ghost are definitely closely related to the concept of The Curse. In conclusion, these are the reasons why I agree that the title The Curse is a very significant to the story of this novel and I really enjoyed reading it.
