Doctoris iuris (PhD in Law) The objective of the PhD-program in law is to contribute to the free development of an individual and expansion of human vision through enhancement of the existing knowledge and establishment of innovative methods in lawmaking and/or interpretation of legal rules. To enhance the research and teaching competences in accordance with NQF VIII level learning outcomes (see below). Introduction to the basic research tools within doctoral program is provided in the first semester through specific core course (Basic Tools for PhD Research). It enables a student to get acquainted with the organizational tools of the PhD-research, specificities of working with primary sources and incorporation of secondary sources. The main method employed is learning by doing, as a student is requested to submit components referred to own doctoral thesis. From the next semester student has a choice between deferent scenarios of own profile composition: to accomplish core teaching components (Teaching Methods I or I Seminar) or to start with professor guided research or with the first colloquium. Different from Seminar, being considered as a teaching component and thus not related with the doctoral thesis, the colloquium is the doctoral thesis related component and widely represents the part of the dissertation. In its turn professor guided research differs from the colloquium with large scale of guidance available, contrary to the primarily independent work based colloquium. Reasonable mixture of professor guided research and independently conducted colloquium (three 15 credit component each) supports the development of those skills which are conditioned by independent or interactive work respectively. Teaching Methods II and II Seminar are electives, enabling a student to further shape his/her own profile, especially when a student demonstrates specific interest in teaching rather than in conducting additional research learning component. 1a,Mikeladze str., 0159 Tbilisi, Georgia.
