he name Zechariah can be translated in English as Jehovah remembers. He is the 11th of the 12 Minor Prophets and presents to us the largest volume of information from among them. Zechariah is the seventh in line of the eight prophets who target Judah in particular. Hosea and Amos are addressed primarily to the 10-tribe Israel. Jonah and Nahum are the two Minor Prophets whose message is directed toward the Gentiles. Therefore, the overwhelming content of the 12 prophets is directed toward Judah. This is not surprising, because Judah is the leading representative of the 12 tribes of the children of Israel. Let us take a closer look at Judah. The dying Jacob made this prophecy: Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy fathers children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lions whelp: from the prey,

my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be (Genesis 49:8-10). Out of Judah comes the Shiloh, the Messiah. Out of Judah came the Jews. Immediately someone may ask, what has happened to the rest of the tribes? We know that the tribe of Benjamin was incorporated into the tribe of Judah. The ten-tribe Northern Kingdom, which rebelled against Judah, was led into Assyrian captivity and vanished. However, remnants of those tribes joined themselves to the tribe of Judah, as is evident, for example, in 2 Chronicles 11:16: out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers. In chapter 15, verse 9 we
read: And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him. This has developed into an important issue, because some claim that the Jews of today are not Israel, but that is far from the truth. For example, long after the ten-tribe Israel disappeared, God spoke through the prophet Ezekiel to the Jews, but clearly defines them as the house of Israel several times in chapter 3. You will find this mentioned also in other places. Later, when the Apostle Peter addressed the Jews in Israel, he said, Ye men of Israel (Acts 2:22). Therefore, all Jews are Israelites, but not all Israelites are Jews. What happened to the remnant? They have been dissolved into the Gentiles and no longer are participants of the promises of the people of Israel. Only in him [Judah] shall the gathering of the people be. The greatest authority of all is our Lord Jesus Christ. He exclaimed, Salvation is of the Jews. Later in the Book of Revelation we read: And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof (Revelation 5:5). Back to Zechariah, whose name as we said means Jehovah remembers and He does remember. In this first chapter, he clearly and distinctly addresses the Jewish people when he says, your fathers. In the same chapter, he also mentions the rest of the world, I am sore displeased with the heathen. This issue is important to emphasize because of the various teachings that claim certain parts of Scripture are meant exclusively for Israel, while others are for the Church. Even the Gospels are supposed to be segregated between the Jews who believe in Jesus and the Gentiles believers. We reject this interpretation based on 2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. When we read the first two verses of chapter 1, we have a scant summary of the entire book: the Word of God, the prophet Zechariah, the Lord, and the fathers. Again, it is important to emphasize that the person of the prophet plays no significant part. Actually, we dont know the place or the time of his birth, but he receives the Word of the Lord and the Word is plain: God is displeased with Israels past. Here is the invitation: Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts (verse 3). Gods patience, love and compassion are revealed in these few words. It is up to the people to turn to the Lord, and its confirmed with the Lords promise, I will turn unto you. Now comes the warning not to act on your tradition; dont follow the faith of your fathers. For our time, we should not follow the hymn writers admonition, Faith of our Fathers, holy faith. Instead, follow the Lord. The faith of the fathers, traditional faith, does not help: It does not lead to repentance, neither does it lead to truth and revelation from the Lord. This is

evident from the next two verses: Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us (verses 5-6). Not tradition, but the Word of God was and is decisive.
The First Night Vision

Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white (verses 7-8). In the first 6 verses, the Word of God came to the prophet to reveal the present and the past. Now the future is revealed. We have to recall the experience of the prophet Daniel, reported for us in chapter 7, verses 1-2, describing his first night vision: In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. Daniels vision is directed toward the Gentiles, expressed with the words, the four winds. This reminds us of the four Gentile superpowers: Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. Zechariah does not receive words about the Gentiles in particular, but his vision is targeted toward his people, his land and his city Jerusalem. Zechariah sees something very unusual. He sees a man riding on a red horse and standing still among the myrtles. Who is this man? He is unnamed. From verse 11 we learn that he is the angel of the Lord. Often this phrase is considered to describe a pre-appearance of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. This man stands still among the myrtles. What are the myrtles? Again, scholars differ in their interpretation. All we know is that they are beautiful evergreen shrubs, bearing white flowers and producing a black edible fruit. They also discharge a pleasant odor. In other words, this rider on the red horse is surrounded by a pleasant aroma, which I think signifies the prayers of the saints. He is not alone; other colored horses are mentioned as well. Who are they? Zechariah had the same question: Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be (verse 9). Next comes the answer: And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest (verses 10-11). These identities, red, speckled and white horses, are in modern words reporters. They tell the condition of the people of the nations on earth. They report their observations to the man that stood among the myrtles.

Their report is simple, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest. That seems to contradict the commotion, confrontation, war and disaster that has plagued planet Earth until this day. The Lord Jesus Himself described this in His prophetic speech in Matthew 24:6-7: And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. So what does this still and rest mean? We will have the answer a little later, but first, lets read verse 12: Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? Here we see the issue is Jerusalem. We receive a glimpse into the spiritual world during the time Jerusalem was liberated after the 70-year desolation. The angel that talked with Zechariah communes with the angel of the Lord, and he in turn addresses the Lord of hosts, which is the Father in heaven. Here we learn that the prophetic Word and its fulfillment is not something that is programmed and develops automatically. Quite obviously, much more is at stake. We learn this from Daniel, for example, who understood that 70 years were to be accomplished in the desolation of Jerusalem, and then said, And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes (Daniel 9:3). He certainly did not believe in automatic fulfillment of prophecy; thus he got personally involved. This urges us to be fully involved in the preparation for the liberation of the Church from planet Earth into the presence of the Lord. We are to be active participants, each believer individually. We are to seek separately and intimately the face of the Lord, as the Apostle Paul did: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death (Philippians 3:10). Did the Apostle Paul not know the Lord? Of course he did, but this Scripture reveals there is no end in knowing the Lord. He is the embodiment of the unsearchable riches of the Eternal One! Next we see the Lord speaking with the angel that spoke to Zechariah: And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy (verses 13-14). Zechariahs call was to proclaim Gods specific interest in Jerusalem and Zion. Gods city Jerusalem is much more than the capital city of Israel; it is the residence of God. It is the city where His holy name shall dwell forever, and this city was trodden down deliberately and intentionally by the Gentiles. Now we should understand why the nations of the world do not recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of the Jewish state of Israel. Next we learn the meaning of the earth sitteth still, and is at rest, in verse 15: And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. was the Lord displeased with the fathers, but He is also now displeased with the nations. Why? They couldnt care less about Jerusalem. The official Vatican position is recognized globally: Jerusalem must be an international city, they say. The nations are at ease when it comes to the persecution of the Jewish people, and have been throughout the centuries. As a matter of fact, they helped foward the affliction. This speaks against all nations of the world; there are no exceptions. Although we mentioned that this prophecy was targeted primarily toward Jerusalem and the Jewish people, at the time when the 70 years of the desolation of Jerusalem came to an end, this prophecy is applicable in our days as well. Is there any nation that agrees with Gods eternal resolution, defining the city of Jerusalem as His residence and the capital city of the Jewish state of Israel? There is none. The most respected and beloved nation in the world, Switzerland, does not have their embassy in Jerusalem but in Tel Aviv, and so does the U.S.A. That means even today, they helped forward the affliction. Because of the worlds rejection of Gods Word, God will establish Jerusalem: Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem. Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem (verses 16-17).

24-26 October 2010 are the dates we have reserved for the next Bible prophecy conference under the same theme, The Accelerating Fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. At the time of going to press, we have not yet contracted a hotel facility in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Our last conference, 4-6 October 2009 was held at the Landmark Resort Hotel. Although the facilities were large, we could not accommodate all who wanted to attend this conference. It is our prayer and desire to be able to accommodate all who wish to come and be part of the 2010 conference. Our plans call for a preliminary itinerary to be published in the November 2009 issue of Midnight Call. Speakers are being invited and subjects with prophetic significance are in preparation for the 2010 conference. The Second Night Vision

How the Gentile nations are involved in the persecution of the Jews becomes evident as we read the next two verses: Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem (verses 18-19). Zechariah again sees something unusual. Quite naturally, he asks the question, What be these? And he receives the answer: These are the nations of the world, symbolized by the four horns which manifest power: Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. That is not the end, however, for we continue to read, And the LORD shewed me four carpenters. Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it (verses 20-21). The Tenakh correctly translates the word carpenter with smith or blacksmith. What will these four carpenters/smiths do? They will destroy the power structure of all the Gentiles. Zechariah, as virtually all other prophets, does proclaim mercilessly the judgment of God upon His nation, but concludes with the words of comfort and hope. For Israel, the best is yet to come and that, incidentally, applies to each of us who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who poured out His life in His blood on Calvarys Cross and paid once and for all for our trespasses. Never must we forget Gods distinct purpose for His Church. He has purchased the believer with the precious blood of Christ; they are born again and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, for the exclusive purpose to shew forth my praise.
hese few words tell us who the Church is, why she exists, and what her calling and purpose on earth is. In this message, we want to identify the true Church of Jesus Christ, the One that is described with the fourfold criteria: 1. The Chosen Generation 2. A Royal Priesthood 3. A Holy Nation 4. A Peculiar People

For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. Therefore, each of us who believes and is born again of His Spirit is a new creature in Christ; we are testimonies to the new
Projecting Gods Glory

What is the purpose and calling of this Church? To testify to the visible and invisible world the glory of God, His marvelous works, and His accomplished salvation provided for mankind, by and through Jesus, the Son of God. Gods work of redemption is not aimed exclusively for man to be saved from eternal damnation; that is only the result of Gods intended purpose. Gods aim is to be glorified in and through the Church. Never must we forget Gods distinct purpose for His Church. He has purchased the believer with the precious blood of Christ; they are born again and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, for the exclusive purpose to shew forth my praise. Or as Ephesians 1:6 says, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Salvation is not just a matter of being saved from eternal damnation, but is part of Gods all inclusive plan to restore all things. The Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, penned these words in Romans 8:19-22: For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the

creation, which God is yet to manifest visibly on planet Earth. The prophet Isaiah gives additional details as to why God has chosen a people for His name: Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him (Isaiah 43:7). In verse 21 we read: This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
What the Church Is Not

This brief analysis of the Church highlights the spiritual substance and the organic unity of the

There is someone who makes the decision for you, and you are obligated to follow precisely the interpretation and understanding of those persons who claim to be the final authority when it comes to the Word of God. That is not the Church of Jesus Christ.
Church with God, the Creator through Jesus Christ the Lord. It is therefore important to identify what is not the Church. What we call church traditionally is a physical, earthly identity. It is an organization identified by rules and regulations, with a distinct location. In other words, the church with an address is not the Church Jesus speaks of when He said, I will build my church. Any church or organization, which claims to have the exclusive right to dispense salvation to its members, is definitely not the Church of Jesus Christ the Bible speaks about. Every cult and false teaching has one thing in common, namely the insistence that they alone are the ultimate authority to lead people to salvation. The many different organizations, movements and denominations that claim to be Gods authority on earth have been researched by a number of respectable scholars. I would like to name one: James K. Walker, who wrote the book, The Concise Guide to Todays Religions and Spirituality. In this 360-page book, he names alphabetically many movements, ministries and denominations, among which some are to be recommended, to allow a quick overview about religious activity of today. I have no intention to target the Roman Catholic Church in my attempt to analyze what is not the Church, but this church, governed by the Pope of Rome, is doubtless the largest and the most powerful of all. The Roman Catholic Church is the possessor and originator of the greatest volume of literature about Christian history. The beliefs of the Catholic Church are expressed in the document called the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Here is an example: In chapter 2, Article 2, paragraph 95, page 34, we read the following: It is clear therefore that, in the supremely wise arrangement of God, sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the Magisterium of the Church are so connected and associated that one of them cannot stand without the others. Working together, each in its own way, under the action of the one Holy Spirit, they all contribute effectively to the salvation of souls. Anyone who has read Holy Scripture will immediately recognize the contradiction. Not only Sacred Scripture, but also sacred Traditionand the Magisterium are added for the purpose to contribute effectively to the salvation of souls. This means, in plain words, I can no longer just rely on Sacred Scripture, but must also look to sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church to show me the way of salvation. This insistence is reinforced in paragraph 100, page 35: The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him. No longer am I encouraged to read the Holy Scripture, asking for wisdom by the gift of the Holy Spirit to enlighten the words I read, but the authority of my understanding now lies with a group of men in Rome. As previously mentioned, the same pattern of central authority is to be found in many other religions within Churchianity. There is someone who makes the decision for you, and you are obligated to follow precisely the interpretation and understanding of those persons who claim to be the final authority when it comes to the Word of God. That is not the Church of Jesus Christ.
RuleS and Regulations

No Church can properly function without rules and regulations. There must be a place where believers gather; times need to be announced, and programs developed, offered and implemented. The church as we know it today can be considered a semi-government institution. This may be a strong statement to accept, so an explanation is

necessary. Any church will need permission by their respective government to exist. One cannot erect a building open to the public without informing the government as to the purpose of it. Such an organization must subject itself under the prevailing rules and regulations of government. In most countries, churches are supported by the government in the form of tax deductions for contributors. The church as a semi-government institution is also revealed during a wedding, for example, when the ordained minister pronounces the couple husband and wife, based on the authority of the government. Rules and regulations are an essential part of a church operating in a civilized manner. But we understand that such a church is not the Church of Jesus Christ, though it may contain the Church, that is, born again believers. authority to decide how the individual must act to qualify as a Christian. It is quite amazing to see how liberal Scripture really is in this matter: For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another mans servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks (Romans 14:2-6). Any teaching contrary to the pattern laid down in Holy Scripture does not represent Orthodox Christianity, and we must reject it.

Obey God or Man?

The Church is not an organization; it does not have an address, a headquarters, or an earthly authority. The Church is a living organism, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who guides and directs each and every saint. Such was the case at the beginning when the Church in Jerusalem was founded by the Holy Spirit.

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. Unfortunately, this statement has been conveniently misused by those who oppose government, especially ones they dont approve of. Quite often we hear and read of someone proudly proclaiming: We must obey God rather than our government. But careful study reveals that this was not an issue between church and state, rather between the church and the religious authorities.
In reading Acts chapters 2-4, we instantly notice that these believers were a totally unorganized group of people, yet not disorganized, for the Holy Spirit was in charge of the believers. Here an example: Two of the leading apostles, Peter and John, were not elected by a committee or a church vote, nor did a voice come from heaven supernaturally identifying them. We simply read, Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 4:8). The proclamation of the Gospel invited the Jews in Jerusalem to Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out (Acts 3:19). This caused thousands to become believers in Jesus Christ, all without an organized infrastructure. Then a problem was revealed: the established religious authorities took offensethey had a place, they had an address, they had a leadership, and they were the established authority for religious matters. Understandably, they were offended when these outsiders, the simple people, proclaimed that Jesus Christ was the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. As a result, the religious leaders came together for consultation as recorded in Acts 4:15-18: But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. No more preaching in the name of Jesus! How did the disciples react? But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye (Acts 4:19). Peter later made a similar statement in Acts 5:29: Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. Unfortunately, this statement has been conveniently misused by those who oppose government, especially ones they dont approve of. In that case, the church determinedly insisted that they were to be obedient to God. This again shows that the Church is not an organization; it is an organism under the authority of the Holy Spirit. However, this does not mean that we are to reject the authority of the local church. We are to pray and support our local church. We are to participate in the building of the infrastructure of such a church, but we must always keep in mind that the Church is only those individuals who are born again of the Spirit of Godthey constitute the Church of God. That is an important part in our understanding of the exclusiveness of the Church.
Another Chosen People

Before we delve deeper into this subject, identifying the Church of Jesus Christ, let us first acknowledge that God has another chosen people, namely Israel. Moses identifies these people with a similar description, yet they are distinctly different in their calling and purpose: For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth (Deuteronomy 14:2). What is the difference between His Church and His people Israel? First of all, the location. The

Church does not have an earthly calling except to be His witnesses and to demonstrate our new birth, To the praise of the glory of his grace. Israel, on the other hand, is chosen to be above all the nations that are upon the earth, with a clearly defined geographical earthly territory. 1. Israel has an earthly calling; the Church has a heavenly calling. 2. Israel is to be above all the nations of the world; the Church is among the nations of the world. 3. To Israel, God came literally and physically in the flesh and dwelt among them. To the Church, he came through and by the power of the Holy Spirit. 4. To Israel, the promise is made in 2 Chronicles 20:20, Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. Physical existence demonstrated by visible prosperity was the promise to the Israeli believer. To the Gentiles (the rest of the world) it is said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thine house (Acts 16:31). The world must always stand in opposition to God. Why? Because all the nations are subject to the god of this world.
The Invisible Unity of the Church

The Church, on the other hand, has no geographical location, no headquarters, and no leader but the Holy Spirit of God. The Church cannot be defined by a denomination, a local church, a missionary organization, or any other form of visible manifestation on earth. The Church is a living organ called the Body of Christ; it is no more and no less than the fulfillment of Matthew 18:20: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. During the last few centuries, the definition of the Church has been changed from the temple of the Holy Spirit, to a visible manifestation of a building. It is commonly said, We go to church to worship God, but the truth is, we believers are the Church: Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:5). Just as the Old Testament Temple built of stone, served to offer up sacrifices unto the Lord, the Church is the spiritual house offering up spiritual sacrifices. How is that accomplished? By total, absolute and unconditional self-denial. The Apostle Paul describes it with these words: In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:21-22). That is the invisible revelation of the glory of God on earth, His Church.
Gentiles Contradict Israel

Israels borders are defined by the Creator of heaven and earth: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates (Genesis 15:18). It is not surprising that the whole world, without exception, opposes Gods covenant made with Abraham and his descendants to give them the land from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates.

The prophet Amos gives a very definite promise to the Jewish people, wherewith he closes his book: And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God (Amos 9:14-15). The Church too will be gathered, but not to a geographical area; rather in the clouds of heaven: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). These few words should suffice to show the distinct difference between Israel, Gods earthly people, and the Church, Gods heavenly people. However, in both cases, with Israel and the Church, they are chosen for the purpose of being the testimony to God on earth. tant to note is the fact that mans fall was the result of a cunning work of deception. I dont think it is necessary to recall the event that took place as recorded in Genesis chapter 3 in detail. But here is an abbreviated summary: The serpent was a created being, one of the beasts of the field. We actually read, Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God hath made (Genesis 3:1). Some scholars believe that the serpent was the devil. I do not share that opinion, because the devil was a heavenly creature and not an earthly one. Let us take a look at Isaiah 14, where the prophet gives us a back view of history: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High (Isaiah 14:1214). The devil had become the enemy of God. When did that occur? We dont know, as the Bible does not inform us further. But at creation, we see the devil at work. He deceived the serpent to be a medium to deceive Eve, the mother of all. We read in the New Testament, And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression (1 Timothy 2:14). Sin, therefore, was not born with mankind, but man was deceived; thus man is a candidate for reOCTOBER 2009 15

demption. How God brought about the redemption of mankind is the story of the Bible. The Old Testament deals primarily with the nation of Israel in opposition to the Gentiles. The New Testament reveals salvation through the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who poured out His life in His blood on Calvarys Cross, with the invitation attached: Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:15). Thereby, God brought forth the new creation, the Church of Jesus Christ. In order for God to bring about the seed of the woman, which shall bruise thy [serpents] head and thou shalt bruise his heel, God had to segregate a people; He had to choose a nation.
Abraham, Father of Believers

God called one man, whose name was Abraham. When we read the story, we notice something very specific about this man. He believed the Word of God, and was obedient immediately. Abraham was childless, yet God promised to make a great nation of him and his wife Sarah. But the fulfillment took a long time. When Sarah was 90 and Abraham 100, they finally had their son. Then God made a special request, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of (Genesis 22:2). It would have seemed natural for Abraham at his age to dis16

cuss this matter with the manager of his household. He was old. He may not have heard properly, nor understood correctly. He could have called the elders and shared his burden with them, and maybe they would have called for a prayer meeting, just to make sure that Abraham really heard what he said. Moreover, he should have talked about this matter with his beloved wife Sarah. Surely they could have found another way. Or at least made sure this is precisely what Abraham was supposed to do. But Abraham did no such thing. The next verse, after God had told him to offer up his only and beloved son, reads, And Abraham rose up early in the morning (Genesis 22:3). Abraham was fully convinced that God spoke to him, that God was a reality, that He was the Creator of heaven and earth, and that he had nothing to fear. He was obedient to the Word of God. With Abraham, God had a person who approached Him through faith. Abraham believed; therefore in the New Testament, he is called the father of all who believe.
Israels Calling
Beginning with Abraham, God chose a nation, a holy people, a peculiar people unto Himself, the nation Israel. God promised and Abraham believed; thus, righteousness was established through faith: And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness (Genesis 15:6).

There is nothing in between the holy and the filthy. Either I am one or the other.
A Negative Promise
God did not immediately give children to Abraham. That would have been natural, according to our way of thinking. After God had made the promise, we read in Genesis 15:13: Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. This seems almost like a contradiction. God had just promised Abram that his seed would be as the stars of heaven: Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be (Genesis 15:5). Yet now God gives to Abraham a very discouraging promise. His descendants would be led to a foreign country, and there serve as slaves 400 years. Did Abraham object? Did he have any questions or hesitation? None whatsoever. There is one specific item we must highlight: And he [Abraham] believed in the Lord. That was all that was needed. Abraham had the total assurance that what God promised, He would bring to pass. Here we see again that God works in ways totally different from our thought pattern. He is not in a hurry; He does not need to hasten to accomplish His plan of redemption. He first permits Israel to be afflicted 400 years in the land of Egypt. That was part of Gods plan to build a holy peoplea peculiar peopleabove all the nations that are upon the earth. In the last book of the Bible, we also find the exclusiveness of the Church documented with these words: He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still (Revelation 22:11). These are the separating factors, unjust and filthy, righteous and holy; those two dont mix. There are some people who may be holy and righteous, who do no harm to anyone, and who do great and sacrificial things for mankind, but what does the Bible say about mans righteousness? It is nothing but filthy rags. It seems appropriate to quote Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. There is nothing in between the holy and the filthy. Either I am one or the other.
1. Chosen Generation
When we speak of the chosen generation, we are reminded of the words of our Lord: The last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen (Matthew 20:16). This makes the distinction of the exclusive Church blatantly evident. Jesus made this statement in relationship to a parable of the workers in the vineyard. Those who worked the longest hours and the hardest felt wronged by the Lord. They had done something to be proud of; they could point to their accomplishment, yet Jesus turns this natural inclination of labor and reward on its head, and says, The last shall be first, and the first last. In the previous chapter, He makes a similar statement, but in the reverse direction, But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first (Matthew 19:30). Quite obviously, this was a reference to the children of Israel, who were first, to whom God had spoken, and who had experienced, even seen Gods mighty works in their midst. They were the recipients of the Word of God. Surely they thought

The Fourfold Criteria of the Church

Let us now take a closer look at the fourfold criteria of the exclusive Church. The exclusiveness of the Church is based on the words of God found in John 3:36: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. That is a radical separation, either everlasting life or the wrath of God abideth on him. Nothing is in between; its one or the other.
Who are the chosen? The ones that break through to a living faith in Jesus, who determinedly place their lives in the hands of the Savior, regardless of circumstances or the cost. Such are the chosen generation.
they should have been placed in a superior position, but the Lord says, The last shall be first, and the first last. With one simple sentence, He brushes aside Israels 3,000-year history and hands out the reward of salvation individually, disregarding millenniums of history. Salvation is obtained by the grace of God alone, and there is no preferential treatment in the dispensing of salvation: There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28). A word of caution is needed here, because some think that this verse literally eliminates the earthly position of the believer; such is not the case. A Jew continues to be a Jew, just as a male continues to be a male and a female a female after they become believers in Jesus Christ. But in their calling, they are one in Him.
Predestination
Who are the chosen ones? Some believe they are a group of people, predestined before the foundation of the world, based on Ephesians 1:5: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. That, however, is only one side of the story. This Scripture is a revelation of a mighty spiritual truth; thus we must view it from heavenly perspectives. We should also read the previous verse: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love (Ephesians 1:4). Remember, Jesus speaks eternal words. He is the One from eternity to eternity. Time is not an issue. Later in Ephesians 2:6 we read: And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We know that this is yet to come. We will one day be in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. But here, the Apostle Paul,

inspired by the Holy Spirit, clearly states that this is already now a reality. The same goes for the ones chosenin him. Gods will is clearly expressed, for example, in 1 Timothy 2:4: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. There is no room for predestination here; God wills, but men will not: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). The invitation to accept or reject is clearly offered throughout all Scripture, Old and New Testament.
Jesus Urges Belief

Jesus clearly demonstrated the works of the Father in the presence of the people of Israel, but they did not believed. Jesus urged them, He implored them to believe: If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him (John 10:37-38). What happens if a person believes? He does the work of God. The disciples asked, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? (John 6:28). Jesus answered, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent (John 6:29). Do you

want to belong to the chosen? Then believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, whom the Father has sent. Who are the chosen? Such are the chosen generation. who said, Be ye holy, for I am holy. Is there such a nation on planet Earth? Or, was there ever such a nation? There never was and there never will be until the completion of the Church of Jesus Christ. This holy nation is distinctly different from all the nations of the world. This Church does not ever have an address to write to, nor a telephone number to call. This holy nation is so diverse that they often cant even communicate with one another. They speak hundreds, even thousands of different languages. They can be found on all five continents, as citizens of over 200 sovereign nations on planet Earth. Each of the members of this holy nation is subject to his or her respective government, whether democracy, communism, socialism, dictatorship or monarchy. They are in this world but they are not of this world. They have no representative and no government of this world; they have neither a legislative nor an executive branch. They do not have an embassy anywhere in the world. And, as we already mentioned, they cannot communicate with one another because of their diverse languages. Yet, they constitute the body of Christ on Earth; they have direct access through the blood of Christ to the throne of God. They place their petition to their Lord in their own peculiar language, and the Lord hears each of them. He comes to their defense. He gives them courage and faith, strength and endurance, compassion and capacity for suffering. They are never forsaken. The Apostle Paul was one who belonged to this holy nation. He was once a well-respected and powerful religious man, until he became a Christian. Here is his testimony: Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in

2. A Royal Priesthood
To Israel, the words were addressed, Ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation (Exodus 19:6). That is Gods intention. The political and the religious office are going to be united. That, incidentally, is the desire of all nations in the world. They wish to combine religion with politics, but its only an imitation of the real thing. We may proudly exclaim, One Nation Under God, but in that expression lies a conflict. Nation means political identity, sinful, corrupt and condemned, and God is divine, holy and eternal. The two dont go hand-in-hand. In Israels case, a priest was placed between the people and their God. The priest was to offer sacrifices on behalf of the people. God, in turn, used prophets to make His intentions known to the people. In the new creation, Gods original intention will be fulfilled. Thus we read in Revelation 5:10: And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. Kings designates the political authority, while priests occupy the office of standing in for the people before God. It is still our task to stand in for the people, to diligently, intently and persistently beseech the Lord for souls who are lost in darkness without hope and future in this world. We beseech them to come to the Light, that is to Jesus, who said, I am the light of the world. That is our priestly function, our task while on earth; that is why we are called a royal priesthood.
3. A Holy Nation
What is a holy nation? It is a nation that wholeheartedly has surrendered to the authority of Him

Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches (2 Corinthians 11:23-28). To belong to this holy nation may be to your disadvantage. Why all these disadvantages? Paul actually had reason to be proud. In Philippians 3:5-6 he enumerates the advantages of him being a Jew: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. If anyone ever could have been proud of his nation, it was certainly the Apostle Paul. But how much value did he place on all these advantages? But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ (Philippians 3:7-8). That, indeed, is a devastating blow to anyone who harbors and tries to hide his national pride. Paul testified, Ido count them but dung. These few words of Holy Scripture should suffice to show how insignificant our nation is in comparison to the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. Our segregation from our nationality is essential to being a member of the exclusive Church. You cant have it both ways.
4. A Peculiar People
Luther translates this a people of His possession. We are not a democracy, by the people and for the people, but we are a nation purchased by the

blood of Christ to be His own possession. Many of us fail to realize that we are not our own. As believers, we no longer have our own rights, neither our possessions, because we are possessed by Him who purchased us through the atonement. When we begin to realize this tremendous fact, we suddenly notice that there is little, if anything, that holds us to planet Earth. Everything we can acknowledge with our senses, that we can see, feel, taste, and hear, is only temporary. We belong to a different kingdom, a different Lord. It is the One we can totally, absolutely and unconditionally trust. We are no longer the property of the god of this world who rules the nations; we do not belong to this world any longer. Its as simple as that. The succession of our transforming from the world to His possession is described in Ephesians 1:13-14: In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. It is the Holy Spirit with which we are sealed, and it is that Holy Spirit who guarantees that we are His purchased possession. Should we dare misuse this purchased possession? Should we dare use our bodies for anything else but into the holy service as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people purchased with the blood of Christ for His own possession? The Apostle Paul asked these important questions: Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit (1 Corinthians 6:15-17). In conclusion, we must each individually answer an important question, and that is, Do I belong to this exclusive Church, or have I been misled by the great deceiver, the imitator, the father of lies? These few marks of a genuine member of the Church of Jesus Christ should be a guideline for your own personal life to make sure that you are a member of the exclusive Church. MC 347

On August 7, 2009 a significant event occurred. Did you miss it? On that day, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) voted to increase the supply of SDRs by $250 billion. Shortly thereafter, on August 28, these SDRs were issued and redistributed to the 186 member countries of the IMF. What was so noteworthy about this? And, just what are SDRs?
ell, to begin, we should start with identifying the IMFs role in the world. Quoting its website: The IMF promotes international monetary cooperation and exchange rate stability, facilitates the balanced growth of international trade, and provides resources to help members in balance of payments difficulties or to assist with poverty reduction.1 This mission should cause us to sit up and take notice. This organization is one of the most influential in driving global financial and economic convergence. Bible readers know
that since these are sub-trends of globalization and globalism, that therefore we are dealing with a topic of prophetic significance. But what is an SDRs? It is an accounting unit for the financial reserves of the IMF , and stands for Special Drawing Right. It serves as a type of currency for this transnational organization and its members. Technically, the SDR is not a real currency, as it cannot be spent in the marketplace. For example, today you cannot take an SDR coin and buy a coffee in a caf in Brussels. All the same, as this accounting unit is defined as a basket of

For now, keeping to our line of inquiry, any discussion of significant shifts in global reserve-currency supremacy must involve implications for the US dollar. In order for a one-world currency to emerge, we must also presume that the US dollar is on the wane and will be removed. Lets then deal with this possibility first. It certainly is true that the US dollar is suffering an image problem today, as some analysts have put it. After about six decades as the worlds main reserve currency, many key nations have been intensifying their complaints that the US dollar is no longer suitable or worthy. The BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have most brazenly been calling for a new global reserve currency. China would dearly like its currency (the yuan) to play a role as a world reserve currency. It is the country that stands to lose the most should the US dollar falter, since it has accumulated large official holdings of US-dollar assets. Recently, the Economist magazine presented a picture of the dollar symbol morphing into a dragon. The implication was that the world would some day be moving to a yuan standard. Could this happen? We will yet provide our opinion. With respect to the dollar, even some prominent American economists are of the view that the U.S.s role in world capital markets is on the wane. Quoting Joseph Stiglitz, a respected academic and former Chief Economist of the World Bank, To be sure, our influence will diminish, as we are less likely to be held up as a role model, but that was happening in any case. America used to play a pivotal role in global capital, because others believed that we had a special talent for managing risk and allocating financial resources. No one thinks that now, and Asiawhere much of the worlds saving

underlying currencies (the US dollar makes up about 44% of its value) it does carry real financial clout. Due to the SDRs rather specialized and obscure role, most people would not know that it has already functioned as a global monetary unit since its inception back in 1969. The recent issue of SDRs is the first in almost 3 decades (1981) representing somewhat of an awakening. What is also significant is that this alloca-

tion has boosted the amount of SDRs by 7.5 times. Could an ascendant SDR someday dethrone the US dollar? What role will it play in a developing one-world currency? We want to address these urgent questions. Move Over Dollar Interestingly, the IMFs new SDR issue has not caught the full attention of those who believe the world will soon have one-world currency. That may be due to the fact that the total value of SDRs still only represents a fraction of total world currency reserves (less than 1%), or that they are neither visible nor understood. Usually, every time an event occurs that could be construed as a step toward a one-world currency, one can expect a stream of hysterical reports and speculations. We will yet come back to address the legitimacy of one-world currency fears.

occurs todayis already developing its own financial centers. We are no longer the chief source of capital. The worlds top three banks are now Chinese. Americas largest bank is down at the No. 5 spot.2 The U.S. dollar position as the major reserve currency is clearly under attack. It is true that US financial policies have often been criticized over the years, and sometimes without merit. Either the dollar was considered too high in value (i.e. a situation which led to the Plaza Accord of 1985) or too low (i.e. in recent years versus the Euro). But lately, complaints have had more to do with the huge international indebtedness of the U.S. and its reckless monetary policies. Recent financial developments and geopolitical shifts likely signify a critical turning point for the dollar. Therefore, could U.S. currency trends of late be prophetically significant? We provide answers to our questions first from a Biblical response, and then from a contemporary economic perspective. Lets therefore examine the prophetic view next. Prophetic Views on Currencies? It must certainly be recognized at this stage of world history that any major and sudden development is likely to be prophetically significant especially so were it also to impinge upon Israel in some way or lead to a new consolidated global power structure centered around 10 countries. One of the most important markers of the endtimes has already been triggeredIsrael has been reborn. If the US dollar were to topple suddenly, it most assuredly would be a development that hastens the arrival of endtime prophetic conditions. But would that mean that a one world currency is in the offing? This is possible but not certain or even highly likely. Many Bible prophecy scholars treat the one-world currency notion as if it were specific literal prophecy. It is not. Rather, it is a deduction. That is not to say that it would represent unreasonable conjecture. However, if we stick to what the Bible actually says, the correct and supportable response must be that a oneworld currency cannot be either proven or disproved from the Bible. Scripture is silent on this specific idea. What is clearly prophesied are the conditions of global convergence in commerce, politics and beliefs (i.e. religion). Midnight Call has carried numerous articles documenting these assertions biblically, especially in relation to globalization and globalism. (See this column in MCM May though August 2007). That said, we still cannot prove that there will be a single, fungible world currency. Actually, we may be wasting our time being on the lookout for a oneworld currency. It is not required to fulfill prophecy. Consider that while ecumenicism may ultimately achieve a one-world religious convergenceone big happy family of diverse religions that tolerate each other and ignore mutual inconsistenciesthat this would not require individual religions to lose their independent identities. Likewise so in the financial world. One can have a one-world financial system that reflects similar protocols

currency project that has been accelerated etc., I cant help but feel that we are missing the forest for the trees. Yes, these currency unifications can and may very well move forward. But so what? It is much too late to become a monetary single-currency alarmist, and what would it accomplish in any case? Lets wake up and pursue questions that are more relevant and practical, as we will note in the conclusions. Contemporary Analysis of Future Currency Shifts What is the economic case for a oneworld currency? There would be both advantages and disadvantages. On balance, in the multi-polar world system that is developing today one that is no longer likely to be anchored by one superpowerit would seem improbable that sufficient unanimity for such a development is on the near-term horizon. Of course, were a massive world financial crisis to eruptone much, much bigger than the current Global Financial Crisis (GFC)and a strong leader emerge who is influential and flattering enough to successfully force world consensus on such a question, conditions for the formation of a one-world currency would be more conducive. But we need not preoccupy ourselves with this scenario. It would be a development involving the Antichrist that occurs inside the Tribulation period, and does not concern us today. Now, the more ob-

Tiring Speculations Without Sure Conclusions I admit that I sometimes get a little tired of all the one-world currency speculations and sensationalizations. As someone who has worked on the frontlines of global money for almost three decades, to me the whole question denies the reality of what already has unfolded. We have made the point frequently in our writings that the worlds capital markets are already on a de facto one currency standard. Professional money traders who work inside this system fully appreciate this state of affairs. Money moves fluidly across currencies around the world in the trillions. Sophisticated financial hedging instruments exist that in essence give security and mobility to global money. We acknowledge that there are more individual currencies in the world today than there were 20 and 50 years ago. Yet, this trend has not stopped global monetary convergence. Far from it. So, when I get breathless questions about the Amero (a proposed American currency union), the khaliji (proposed, but currently sidelined currency for six Middle East countries), the Asian single

vious outcome is that the world will move to a multi-currency reserve platform. Such a regime would be more in alignment with the Bibles indications. After all, Scripture tells us that first a multipolar coalition of nations will develop, shown as 10 separate countries (the 10 kings). (See Daniel 2, 7 and Revelation 12, 13, and 17, which speak of 10 toes, 10 horns and 10 kings.) A number of currencies together are therefore likely to supplant the US dollars lone reserve role in the world. The euro, yen and eventually perhaps the Chinese yuan, Russian ruble, Brazilian real and others could play a part. This is why the IMFs SDR is likely to become much more important in the future. It is an inclusive financial structure, ideally suited to a multipolar world. Though it is not a real currency itself, it yet facilitates power sharing and the mobilization of global money. Thoughts to Ponder With respect to the outlook for the US dollar that is cherished by so many, here is a fact that you may not have known: It was recognized long, long agoin fact, right at the inception of the worlds current monetary regimethat the US dollar was fated to lose its central reserve role. Its eventual fall was anticipated by the very architects of the Bretton Woods system. (An important paper written by Robert Triffin in 1960 clearly underlined this conclusion.) In order to provide the currency backbone to the world, the U.S. needed to run deficits (supplying US dollars to the rest of the world.) But this can be done only so long before mounting international debts would overwhelm the U.S. Indeed, in part, this is what has happened. The bottom line? After 60 years of serving as the worlds reserve currency, the globe is swamped with US dollars. (Consider that some 70 percent of dollars in circulation are held outside the U.S.!) Even should a major currency crisis be avoided, it only stands to reason that the US dollar will continue to decline in influence. That could yet take a long time; or it may not. As Christians, however, it is crucial that we not get distracted from the reality of what is unfolding. We should avoid fixations with misleading indicators and our hobbyhorse prophetic theories when they cannot be proven from the Bible. We need to keep watching and learning. Jesus Christ implored the disciples many times to watch at least nine times! The one-world financial system is already here the endtime money snare virtually complete. How best can we be used in the task of snatching people from the fire? Jude summarizes these directives, saying: Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh (Jude 1:22-23). There are initiatives in which Christians can safely be activists: Snatching people from the fire and hating the corruption of the flesh. Maranatha! Oh, Lord, steel our resolve and equip us to do so in these perilous times (2 Timothy 3:1). MC

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canannite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him (Matthew 10:1-4).
udas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, was the last in the list of the disciples. Judas was the son of a certain Simon (compare John 6:71) and bore the second name Iscariot, which means man from Kerioth. As Kerioth is situated in Judea, Judas came from Judea. How strange! The betrayer came from the royal tribe. We hear nothing of his personal calling, even if Matthew 10:1-4 makes it clear that he was called. He was just as much a disciple as the other eleven. He heard the words of the Master, saw His miracles, and was himself sent out to proclaim the Word and to do miracles. Peter said of him, For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry (Acts 1:17).
Predestined to become a betrayer? A statement of
Jesus concerning this presents a great problem for

many Christians. Why did Jesus say of Judas Iscariot, I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me (John 13:18), and, While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled (John 17:12)? This is the fulfillment of prophetic statements in the Old Testament, made in Psalm 41:9 and 55:12-13. These verses tell us that a friend and companion would betray Him. A third prophecy is to be found in Zechariah 11:1213, which tells us the exact sum that Judas Iscariot would receive from the scribes for his betrayal. Was he predestined, then, to become the betrayer of the Lord, to perish for eternity after-
all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? (Ezekiel 18:23).

God foresaw how Judas would act, and it is with this foreknowledge, inspired by the Holy Spirit, that these Old Testament prophecies were written down. An example of this is, In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed, in Genesis 12:3. Why was God able to make this promise to Abraham? Paul gives us the answer in Galatians 3:8, And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. This is how it was with Judas. He was by no means a marionette; he chose the way of betrayal himself.
Why was he chosen to be a disciple? Why did Jesus
Why did Jesus chose this man to be a disciple, although as God He knew Judas? He could have chosen another. The answer is simple. Have I any pleasure at

This is how it is with us all. The Lord knows what I will do tomorrowmaybe something that will grieve Himand yet He chooses to bless me today. If He were to treat us today in accordance with what we will do in the next three months, we would be in a bad way. The same love also moved Jesus to call Judas Iscariot to be a disciple.

one whose discipleship is Christless. Outwardly he is in the midst of Christians, but inwardly he is far removed from them. Judas was the first to follow Jesus, but he never really gave himself to Him.

Judas saw the miracles, experienced the love of his Master, and often experienced an open heaven, and yet he remained a carnally-minded man. The kiss with which he betrayed Jesus was hypocritical and the worst form of betrayal (Mark 14:44-45). Do we not have to examine ourselves here? Wait a minute, someone may be protesting here, we do not have to compare ourselves with Judas, the betrayer! His hypocrisy concealed his betraying nature for three years. It can also be like this in our lives. We are quite capable of making a pretence of our discipleship. We can pretend to be something we are not or have something we do not. This is betrayal. If someone is inwardly shaking their head now and saying, I would never do that!, I would like to point to Peter and Barnabas: But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimilation (Galatians 2:11-13). Any kind of hypocrisy

Paul wrote in Romans 8:29, For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son. And in 1 Corinthians 15:49, And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Through the new birth, Christians can become an image of the glory of Jesus Christ. Is this not an encouragement to pursue holiness much more? Yet unfortunately, just as famous paintings are often copied, the most glorious picture on earth is also copied. Judas Iscariot was such a forger, the first to fake the image of the glorious Son of God, And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease (Matthew 10:1). With this act, Jesus gave His glory and greatness, His image even, to His disciples. Judas also went and did miracles and signs in the name of the Lord. He pretended to be a representative of Jesus and bearer of His glory, but inwardly he was not. Among Christians, there are also people like Judas Iscariot, good counterfeits. Judas may have praised his Master with friendly words and performed miracles in the name of Jesus, but it was all a pretense, faked. Such people will one day say to Jesus, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? (Matthew 7:22). What will the Lords answer be? I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity (verse 23). Are you, perhaps, such a person? Jesus died on Calvarys cross for you too. ur God never intended that His children live the Christian life by sheer human will. Of course, we make choices, we set goals, and we can choose the pure life and obedience before the Lord. But, the power to make those choices and then to live them calls us to a much higher life than just the strength in our flesh. At its very best, our righteousness is still self-righteousness and is nothing but filthy rags. The Pharisees were Christs best example of this truth. He said of them, Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and of all uncleanness (Matthew 23:27). The Christian life is so much more than most people are willing to earnestly contend to discover. We would rather put forth great effort to reach the goal than to give up in utter surrender so that He can work in us. Faith is not reaching up to take hold of God, it is giving up so God can reach down and take hold of us. There is a wonderful balance between what I long to discover and what the Father longs to reveal.

Take Emotion and Anxiety Out of Iron Ore Business

BHP Billiton, the worlds biggest miner, has made a plea for the emotion and anxiety to be taken out of the iron ore business, with a shift to market-based pricing, such as with oil or coal. As BHP announced a halving of full-year profits, Marius Kloppers, chief executive of BHP, suggested it was only a matter of time before the traditional system of pricing iron ore on contractual agreements was replaced. There is a ball thats rolling, and will continue to roll, he said, adding that, while BHP did not have the power to force a change, other players were coming around to this thinking. Under the traditional system, the main iron ore producers, such as Rio and BHP, sit down with steelmakers to fix a year-long price for the mineral essential to steel production. This had worked in previous decades, Mr Kloppers said, when there was less volatility in supply, demand and cost variables, such as freight charges. This system worked in low-volatility conditions and it is less well geared to work in high-volatility conditions, he said. We need to take the emotion and anxiety out of the thing. Mr Kloppers said a phenomenon had arisen when guesswork at the start of the year stood to lose either side billions of dollars by the end of it.

The citizens of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro should be allowed to travel visa-free to the EUs borderless Schengen area next year, the European Commission proposed on 15 July.
It is a historic step in our relations with the western Balkan countries, EU justice commissioner Jacques Barrot told journalists in Brussels while presenting the proposal together with enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn. Brussels has been criticized for leaving Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia out of the visa waiver proposal. It really is a great day for the peoples of the western Balkans [and] for Europe, Mr Rehn said. Visa-free travel means no more queuing at embassies [and] no more collecting of supporting documents. The citizens of these countries will be able to visit family and friends in the EU without having to undergo heavy visa procedures, he added. The lengthy and difficult process of obtaining a visa to enter the EU was imposed on the western Balkan countriesCroatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albaniain the aftermath of the 1990s Yugoslav war, with the bloc promising as far back as 2003 to start talks with the countries governments to lift this obligation. The newly constituted European Parliament is now to be consulted on the commissions proposal, and then EU member states are expected to give a final green light to it probably at the end of October. Who Is theWorlds #1 Exporter?

Chinese exports narrowly edged ahead of those from Germany in the first six months of the year, new figures showed in a fresh sign that Germanys status as the worlds leading exporter is at risk.
China exported goods worth $521.7bn in the first six months of this year, while Germanys total was $521.6bn, the Genevabased World Trade Organization reported. However, the likely value of German and Chinese exports for the full year remains uncertain and will depend heavily on exchange rate movements in coming months. A strong euro would help flatter Germanys figure. Germanys export businesses have also shown signs of reviving in recent months. It is too close to say for the whole year and who knows for next year, said Patrick Low, the WTOs chief economist. In June, the latest month for which data are available, German exports leapt by 7 percent compared with the previous month. Nevertheless they were still 22.3 percent lower than a year before. Chinese exports have followed a similar pattern. The surge in exports helped explain why Germany was able to report a rise in gross domestic product in the second quarter, compared with the previous three monthsmeaning it emerged from recession ahead of the US, the UK and most of the other large European economies.
The question is no longer if but when China will surpass Germany. China, as we have often mentioned in our articles, is bound to supersede all other individual na-
tions. That means closer cooperation among the nations and the solidifying of the various unions, particularly the European Union, will be the only way to remain a strong pillar in the world of finances and economy. Another important development in this case is Chinas communist system, which had been rejected by the European world but is attaining one success after another. China Gaining a Foothold in Russias Backyard

A week before repeat parliamentary elections in Moldova, China signed an agreement to loan $1bn (600m, 700m) to this cash-strapped, resource-poor country, nearly tripling Moldovas external debt and issuing a direct challenge to the US and Russia for economic and political influence in this last outpost of elected Communist rule in the former Soviet Union.
Beijings move comes after Russias recent agreement-in-principle to loan $500m to Moldova and as payments from the US Millennium Challenge Account have yet to reach $25m. The Chinese loan is double the planned Russian credit and beats by $300m the maximum that the MCA could offer. Moreover, the Chinese terms are highly favorable: a 3 percent annual rate over 15 years with a fiveyear grace period on interest payments, and no human rights strings attached. The money will be funneled through Covec, Chinas largest construction company. It will ostensibly be put towards infrastructure and projects such as energy modernization, water systems, treatment plants, the industrialization of agriculture and the creation of high-tech industries, which Moldova sorely needs. China increasingly expresses concern about its huge US dollar holdings, jangling nerves in Washington. The low interest rate on the Moldova loan suggests that in implementing this project Beijing is more concerned with risk diversification and geopolitical positioning than return. China has been very active in central Asia, but there most of the projects made economic sense and were tied to extractive industries. Here, we see a subtle and interesting challenge to the US and Russia in a country where China has historically been more of an observer than a player. As Moscow and Washington discuss nuclear disarmament and joust over spheres of influence, we see a wealthy and confident China moving to outflank both in a most unlikely arena.
With interest we continue to watch the development of communist Chinas influence in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world. Previously, the word communism has been defined as distasteful, connected to oppression and poverty. Now, the Financial Times writes, we see a wealthy and confident China. What does it all mean? Nothing else but the melting of communism, socialism and capitalism. Where will it lead? Worlds First to Increase Interest Rates

The Bank of Israel recently became the first leading central bank to raise interest rates since the global economic crisis intensified last September, increasing its policy rate from 0.5 percent to 0.75 percent. The bank said its decision strikes a balance between the need to moderate inflation and the need to continue to support the recent recovery in economic activity, given that unemployment is expected to continue increasing in the next few months. Setting the interest rate at the low level of 0.75 percent continues to represent an expansionary monetary policy. The bank added that lifting rates would help return inflation to within its target range of 1 percent to 3 percent from an annual rate of 3.5 percent in July. The Israeli central bank said the most recent data on the Israeli economy strengthened the assessment that there had been a turnaround, although great uncertainty remains about the expected rate of economic growth. The Israeli move will still be closely watched, in large part because Stanley Fischer, governor of the Bank of Israel and former deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, is regarded as the elder statesman of the global central banking community.

30,000 American Babies Die Before Their First Birthday

When a baby is born too soon, its hard to imagine that the infant would do better anywhere else in the world than in America.
The most fragile preterm infants are housed in specialized intensive care units and cared for by worldclass experts. Prematurity cost the country some $26 billion in 2005, according to the U.S. Institute of Medicine. And yet for all the technology and expense, roughly 30,000 American babies under age 1 die each year. They die at a rate three times as high as in Singapore, which has the worlds best infant survivallong considered a key indicator of a nations overall level of health. In fact, the U.S.ranked No. 30 in 2005lags behind almost every other industrialized nation, behind Cuba, Hungary and Poland. What explains such dismal figures? The math is fairly simple. Babies born preterm before 37 weeks of gestationaccount for two-thirds of all infant deaths, and the number of preemies in the U.S. is growing. Today 1 in 8 American births is preterma nearly 20% rise since 1990. At Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Alfred Brann directs a World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Reproductive Health. The center is a joint project of Emory and the CDC, and in its 28 years of operation, the staff has worked on five continents, in countries including Afghanistan, Cuba, Mexico and Russia, on projects ranging from improving patient safety during childbirth to researching the causes of low fertility. Brann has a more personal perspective on maternal and infant health than other researchers might. My mother died in my birth in 1934, and my aunt, who raised me, had two very tiny premature babies who died, he says.

Infant death in the industrialized world has been drastically reduced due to improved medical technology and better medicine. Although Americas healthcare services and facilities are on par with the leaders of the world, such as Singapore, Japan and France, it is evident that such service is not available to all American citizens. The issue of healthcare is not to be solved by new laws coming from Washington, rather by asking a simple question, How do other nations achieve better healthcare? Again, the answer lies in internationalization, apparently. That in turn will force the U.S. to keep step with the progressive global world in order not to be left behind. This article may be offensive to many, in particular those involved in the healthcare business, but we publish this to show that the unceasing progress to create a unified world will force each nation to adapt policies, laws and regulations that lead to successin this case, those nations that are successful when it comes to healthcare for all citizens. The old saying, You cant argue with success is a tool to forge planet Earth into unison.

Immigrants Gateway to a European Dream

Izmir has for years been luring migrants and refugees who dream of crossing into Europe.
But that is not always obvious in this city of three million situated on the Turkish Aegean coast 329 km south of Istanbuluntil you take a walk through Basmane, a small neighborhood in the heart of the city. Basmane has a history of hosting populations on the move, says lawyer Taner Kilic, president of the Association for Solidarity with Refugees (Multeci Der), an NGO that help refugees deal with the complex Turkish asylum system. For a long period this place hosted poor seasonal workers, says Kilic. At the beginning of the 1980s thousands of internally displaced Kurdish people that arrived in Izmir settled here; now they own many of the small businesses you see around. Today it is migrants and refugees who hide here, waiting to pass into Europe. Not all migrants are here voluntarily. Very often they are dumped in Izmir by traffickers who promise to take them to Italy, elsewhere in Europe or Istanbul, says Cavidan Saykan, a student at the University of Essex in the UK who is researching human rights in Izmir. Then they stay here trying to find a way to cross into Europe, or hoping they will manage to launch an asylum application. A 47 percent increase in asylum applications was registered from January to August last year compared to the corresponding period in 2007, according to UNHCR. The majority of new asylum-seekers are Iraqis, and all their applications are submitted for resettlement.

Chinese Fishing Industry Falls Foul of EU Rules

China will have to make significant improvements to its fisheries traceability systems if it is to meet stricter European Union requirements aimed at preventing illegal fishing, according to a new report from wildlife advocates.
As of January next year, all fish products entering the EU must come with catch certificates validated by the country whose flag the fishing boat which caught the fish is flying, a move the EU hopes will aid the fight against what is called illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing. In 1993, the Chinese fish re-processing sector, primarily based in the Shandong and Liaoning provinces, was placing 2.8 million tons of fish products on the market. But by 2006, production had rocketed to 9.3 million tons, outranking other leading fish product producers Peru, Norway, the Russian Federation, the US, Thailand and Chile. To meet the EU rules, China will have to issue certificates for all catches by China-flagged vessels and obtain certificates from other countries when fish is imported into China for processing. The report estimates that more than half the raw material that enters the fish reprocessing industry originates in the Russian Federation, particularly cod and salmon and large quantities of unspecified fish. The Traffic document says that customs systems both in China and in some importing countries lack sufficient detail and usually do not check whether fish imports are classified under the appropriate code. Additionally, says the report, fish may legally change hands several times while in China, further complicating product traceability. The conservation group principally recommends that China streamline the different monitoring systems its authorities currently use into a single, integrated and effective traceability system. The group also says that the EU must deliver additional assistance to help China comply with its legislation, as well as providing Chinese fisheries enforcement authorities with intelligence on countries that may be the source of IUU fish arriving in the country.

Actors US Detention Prompts Outrage in India

India reacted with outrage after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said he was detained for questioning at a U.S. airport, though immigration officials denied he was formally held.
Fellow Indian film stars and political leaders condemned what they called humiliating treatment given to Khan, a Muslim who is well-loved in a largely Hindu country. One Cabi-
net minister suggested a tit-fortat policy toward Americans traveling to India. Khan said he was detained by U.S. immigration officials at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey because his name came up on a computer alert list. The story was front-page news in India, where the ability to avoid being frisked at airports is seen as a status symbol. Politicians, sports celebrities and film stars often claim VIP status to avoid security checks.

Extremist Christians:God Hates Jews

Members of the extremist Westboro Baptist Church, known for its anti-gay and antiSemitic rhetoric, protested in front of several Jewish institutions in New York.
A handful of protestors from the Kansasbased church turned out, toting signs that read God Hates Jews and God Hates Obama. With plans to protest in front of the Jewish Historical Society, Drisha Institute, and others, they arrived mid-morning at Temple Shearith Israel on the Upper West Side. From there, they went to the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, the site of another earlier protest by Westboro members. In an email to the community, JCC Executive Director Rabbi Joy Levitt urged visitors to calmly enter the building to avoid incident. Citing the JCCs beefed up security, she said protecting members and visitors was the centers primary goal. Our communication remains the same, she wrote. The JCC in Manhattan does not welcome this groups message or actions in any way. Our best and only response is to conduct business as usual, she said. Theyre definitely, unequivocally anti-Semitic and they always have been, said the Anti-Defamation Leagues director of civil rights Deborah Lauter. Recently, They have ramped up their protest in front of Jewish institutions, she said. At the JCC, several community members arrived early to stand in opposition to the protest. As a Jew, as a community member, as someone who highly values diversity and as a human, I felt it was important to come to show support for the JCC, an organization that is so inclusive, said Ina Gail Goldberg. Goldberg said she values freedom of speech, but opposes those who are missionaries. Dont tell me what I think is wrong, she said.

This unpleasant event exposes an embarrassing fact: Many customs officials at US airports lack proper training and education according to international standards. Questioning, even interrogating international passengers, is common practice throughout the United States. According to some reliable reports, this has caused many
international passengers to avoid the US if possible. Travelers from Brazil, on their way to Europe, were required to obtain an entry visa, although in transit. According to the report from our missionaries in Brazil, the preferential route is now direct flight from Brazil to Europe, avoiding the USA. What does all this mean? The United States will have to comply with international customs and regulations, which allow undisturbed travel to and from any country. I cant tell you how much I have enjoyed your magazine over the years, learning whats going in our world, the letters people write and your answers. I have been a Christian for 63 years. I have learned so much from your books. I have a question. I have had dogs all my life and they become like one of the family. Some are really smart. We all know they have a brain, but do they have a soul? So many people think they will go to heaven: I do not. If that were the case, all animals would go also. Answer: Only man is created in the image of God and consists of spirit, soul and body. Animals have a soul and a body, but not a spirit. Modern man is attempting to eradicate Gods ordained separation between man and beast, particularly those who are proponents of evolution. Someone rightly stated man would rather be a refined ape than a fallen Adam. It is not surprising that the epitome of rebellion against God is defined in Scripture with the word animal (beast). Man is being degraded to the level of a beast, and the beasts are being exalted to the level of humans; that is the tendency of today. There is an interesting statement in Romans 8:19-22: For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. Answer Man Dear Arno Froese, I will not renew my subscription to your magazine. Not that I find fault with it. To the contrary, I have really enjoyed reading it. But because of my age (91+) and related factors, I must simplify my living. Among my efforts is cutting down the volume of papers coming in via mail. There is so much unsolicited stuff I cannot control. So I control what I can. Ive eliminated all subscriptions gradually. Yours is the last to go reluctantly. Ive enjoyed the many prophecy articles. For seventy
years, Ive studied prophecy and understand from the first how important it is and what a great tool it is for evangelism and for holier living, especially today. How sad that so many churches are brain-dead where the Rapture is concerned. My least favorite section is the question-and-answer part. There is too much opportunity to gender strife, which it did on occasion. However, no one aside from our Savior knows everything about everything. When one becomes an Answer Man, he projects the image of one who does know everything, perhaps without realizing it. He will offer his opinions and attempt to proof-text it with Scripture to prove himself right. In your case, you are very knowledgeable about the Bible. I am fairly knowledgeable myself and can recognize truth when I read it. I pray constantly that I will not be
deceived. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit, who leads any truly seeking soul to the knowledge of the truth. But you lose credibility when you comment on some subjects. Example: alternative medicine and a Christians civic responsibilities. Your answers reflected a bias based on a lack of full knowledge on the subject, in my opinion of course.

Some time ago I asked Dr. Waron of the Assaf Harofeh Medical Clinic in Israel about alternative medicine, to which he answered,There is no such thing. I have carefully studied the subject, but doubtless, I do not have full knowledge on the subject. As to civic responsibility, you mean Christian political activism. I am willing to learn if it is in Holy Scripture. We are strangers and pilgrims on the earth. We desire a better country, as is written of Abraham. He looked for the eternal city prepared by God. When it comes to civic responsibility, we have the clear instruction in Romans 13. But dont forget, that is applicable to all, whether living under a dictatorship, communism, socialism, democracy, or monarchy.
Eternal Damnation Dear Mr. Froese, I am a retired United Methodist pastor and have just finished readying your book, 119 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Prophecy. I was very impressed with your work and agree with you on almost everything that you say. If there are any questions, they would be minor except for your answer to what will happen to the unbelievers after the millennium. You state on page 171, These are those who have died without accepting Gods free gift of salvation. They will be judged, but will have no chance of salvation. lation 19. We have no differences there! But this is the first resurrection, for all those who have died either never having accepted or never having the chance of accepting Christ because they never heard of him. So there are two classes of people who are here to be judged by God: those who have rejected Christ and those who never heard of him (i.e., the American Indians, Africans, people who died before Christ was even born, etc.). The books are opened and these people are judged according to their works (Revelation 20:12-13). In my understanding of Scripture, Christians are judged in this life (1 Corinthians 11:31-32). As Gods children adopted into His family, He judges us and chastises us for disobedience in this life. However, in the next life, we are rewarded according to our works, but even if we have no rewards in the next life, we will still be saved (1 Corinthians 3:11-17). These people in Revelation 20 are judged according to their works. In other words, they will be found righteous or non-righteous according to their works. Paul said in Romans 2:11-16 that those who live by the lawJewsas well as those who have never heard the lawGentiles could be saved. How? Verses 14-15, For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things contained
in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness. It is possible for people who have never heard the gospel and did not have a chance to accept or reject it to be judged according to their works. However, the Bible says that our righteousness is filthy rags in the sight of God. It may be slim, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Secondly, their names must be written in the Book of Life. In my understanding, our names are written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world (Revelation 17:8). It is not a question of getting our names in the Book of Life, but of getting our names removed (Revelation 3:5). The Bible tells us that we are predestined according to Gods foreknowledge (Romans 8:29; 11:2). God already knows what we will do, but the choice is still ours. I believe on that day that God will look in the Book of Life, and if their names are still there, then they did not hear of or reject Gods plan of salvation. In this case, they will be judged according to their works (what they did with what they knew). If their names are not there, then they have rejected Christ. For the American Indian who knew about and believed in God but had never heard of
Jesus the Christ, when that person made a choice based on the law of conscience as the Spirit would lead, then he became a law unto himself. Their decision would make them right or wrong, righteous or unrighteous. To me this answers the question of, how will that person who has never heard of Jesus be saved? They will be saved, although it is going to be difficult for us to understand, by their works and the grace of God.

Answer: Revelation 20, particularly the last 5 verses, reveals judgment unto condemnation. Why? Because there is no mention of redemption, salvation, the Lamb of God or the blood. We only read of the Great White Throne, the most Holy God, and the absolute revelation of truth. Nothing stands between the sinner and the throne of Godno atonement, no priest, no advocate. Here is how I read that part of verse 13: They [are] judged [condemned] every man according to their works. The level of eternal punishment is determined in these verses. According to the Book of Acts, the Gospel was preached all over the world during the apostles time (Romans 1:8). Salvation went out from Israel to Asia, then to Africa, finally to Europe, and from there to the rest of the world.There is, of course, provision made for those who never heard the gospel; for example, in 1 Peter 3:19: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison (see also chapter 4:6). Jew and Gentile Church? Dear Editor, This is in regard to your answer to H. Meseron in the July 2009 Letters to the Editor about Jesus telling Peter, Upon this rock [you] will build my church. I listen to Les Feldick, an excellent Bible teacher, and he said the word church used in Matthew 16:18 is taken from the Greek word meaning assembly or synagogue. Elsewhere when this Greek word is used it is always translated assembly or synagogue. In Matthew 16:18 it should have read, Upon this rock you will build my assembly or synagogue. The church was not started until Pentecost, after the gospels were written and after Jesus ministry. Paul was the first to use the words church, body of Christ, grace, etc. Matthew 10:5: Do not go among the Gentiles. Verse 6: Go rather to the [whole house] of Israel. In Matthew 15:24 Jesus said, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel, and other places in the New Testament. If the Jews had accepted Jesus as their Messiah, they would have gone through the 7-year tribulation and Jesus
would have returned and set up His kingdom. They didnt accept Jesus as their Messiah, so Jesus had Paul (Acts 9:15) go to the Gentiles, and the church age to the Gentiles was brought in. The church age was not prophesied in the Old Testament, nor did Jesus allude to the church age. Do I have this correct?

Answer: When we read, for example, Isaiah 11:10, To it shall the Gentiles seek, or Amos 9:12, of all the heathen, which are called by thy name, we realize that salvation was never limited to Israel but applies to the whole world. Galatians 3:29 incorporates the believer into Abrahams promise: If ye be Christs, then are ye Abrahams seed, and heirs according to the promise. And verses 28-29 read:There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christs, then are ye Abrahams seed, and heirs according to the promise. I dont see any difference as to the definition of the Church, whether fellowship, elect, assembly, or called-out ones; it still defines the group as born-again believers. Jesus came to Israel and proclaimed, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. If Israel had accepted Him, there would be no need for the 7-year tribulation; the kingdom would have been established. Collectively, however, Judah rejected the Messiah, thus the kingdom became a spiritual one and was passed on to whosoever believes. That fact, however, does

not eliminate the future establishment of the physical, literal kingdom in the land of Israel. It is a mistake to highlight Peter, Paul or anyone else in relationship to the building of the church exclusively. Remember, Jesus said, I will build my church. How does He do it? Through the power of the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin. He uses people. In the beginning, it was Peter who first preached the gospel to the Jews, the Samaritans and the Gentiles. Later, Paul was added, but note, he always went to the synagogue first. Therefore, the statement that Paul alone was divinely chosen to be Christs spokesman to the Gentiles is not quite correct. He was a main vessel through which the Holy Spirit could convey the message to the Gentile, is more appropriate.
Rapture at 2011? Dear Sir, I became interested in prophecy early on, and have listened to several preachers on the subject and read a good many books that have been written on Bible prophecy. Now please do not think that I am a crackpot or that I have lost my mind because of what Im going to reveal to you that God has recently shown me. You will have to agree that the Rapture of the Church, the Great Tribulation and the Second Coming of Christ are just out ahead of us because you often say these things are coming soon. I know the Bible says we cannot know the day or the

hour of His coming, but it does say we can know when it is near, even at the door. I know there have been many date-setters in the past, but I believe that what Im going to say is backed up and based on the Word of God. There is no way that I could have thought this up within myself; therefore, I believe that God has given this truth to me for some great and good purpose. What I have to say concerns the fulfillment of Daniels 70th week, as set forth in Daniel 9:24. Here is what the Lord has shown to me, and I believe it will surely happen just as He said. When the state of Israel becomes 63 years old, which takes place in the year 2011, then God will add the last 7 years to them and this will complete Daniels 70th week. This is the period of time that covers the Great Tribulation, and will accomplish all the things that are stated in Daniel 9:24, even to the second visible coming of Jesus Christ back to earth. Now then, as you have taught that Jesus could come at any time, then the Rapture would have to occur sometime in the year 2011 before Israels 63rd birthday on May 14, 2011. This does not set a day or an hour. This does give us the approximate time of the visible coming of Christ, which would take place in the year
2018, sometime close to Israels 70th birthday in their land. Something else I find very interesting is that if you add 70 years to May 14, 1948, it comes out at May 14, 2018.

Answer: Your analysis of Israels 63rd anniversary and Daniels 70th week sounds interesting, but I cannot see any direct revelation that would lead me to the conclusion that the Rapture would take place in the year 2011. As you probably have read several times in Midnight Call, the reason I reject any date setting for the coming of the Lord is because that theory would lead me not to wait for Jesus today, which in turn, is contrary to the constant admonition of Scripture to be ready now. Yes, I have often written that His coming is very soon, but that from scriptural perspectives. Read Revelation 1:3, which says,for the time is at hand, or the second to last verse of Revelation, Surely, I come quickly. That was written almost 2,000 years ago, but is just as valid today as it was for believers two millenniums ago. We are waiting and are ready for the coming of Jesus today.
Two Witnesses Dear Editor, I love your magazine and pray always for your ministry. In Revelation 11 we read of the two witnesses who were killed. Their bodies lay in the street for 3 days. Verse 10 says, And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry,
and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth. Many writers state they believe this might take place at Christmas time. Maybe, maybe not. In the book of Esther, Chapter 9, we read of the Feast of Purim. The Jews celebrated their victories over their enemies by feasting and sending gifts to one another. In Revelation, these earth dwellers evidently hated the message of the two witnesses and were happy when they were killed. I wonder if they were so happy when 3 days later they saw them raptured into heaven! As a born again believer, none of this will pertain to me, as I will already be in heaven praising my Lord Jesus!

Answer: The reason for the rejoicing at the death of the two witnesses is revealed in Revelation 11:10: because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth. What was this torment? Simply, truth! Whether or not this coincides with Christmas is just speculation. After all, we really dont know when Jesus was born. Christian Nation Dear Arno, Thank you for your insights that there is no such thing as a Christian nation. I believe that the U.S. is Mystery Babylon, the little horn that rose up more stout. The three kings have been crushed: Hitler, Mussolini and the Japanese guy. What better way to deceive people than to be told we live in a Christian nation? We actually live in a Platonic nation with a couple of Judeo-Christian principles thrown in. I grew up in a Christian home and was never taught this important fact. It got me into a lot of trouble, but now my eyes have been opened, thanks to your teachings from the Holy Spirit. We all must come out of Babylon. I think the Lord is coming sooner than we think. Look how fast power is shifting to Washington D.C. Who did Babylon worship? Ishtar or Mother Earth. What is this country worshiping? Green money and Mother Earth. All nationalists speak the same language, just like Babel. The Scriptures are being fulfilled before our eyes. These are just a few insights. Underneath all the rhetoric, the U.S. does not support Israel. Every time we say how we support Israel, we have stabbed them in the

Answer: From Scripture we know that all the nations of the world are under the authority of the god of this world, Satan. Indeed, there never was, nor ever will be a Christian nation. The Bible simply makes no provision for such to exist. However, we are a religious nation because we are built on the principles of European nations, which in turn are built upon Roman principles. A little research of various national anthems will quickly reveal that virtually all nations include Scripture references or God Almighty, and even mention Redeemer and Victor in their nations oath. That fact, however, does not dismiss our obligation toward our prevailing government. We find clear instruction in Romans 13. I do not agree that the U.S.A. is Mystery Babylon, because we find no such indication in Scripture. We are a European country, the same as the other 34 nations built on the American continent (North and South). Besides, Mystery Babylon is not to be located exclusively geographically, but is in reality global: all the earth. When Jesus returns in great power and glory, He will make an end of all the nations of the world and establish His kingdom on earth in Israel, and from there to the rest of the world. MC
