January 10, 2014 Via E-Mail Martha Roskowski Green Lane Project, People for Bikes P.O Box 2359 Boulder, CO, 80306 Re: City of San Diego Green Lane Project application Dear Martha, BikeSD fully supports SANDAGs application on behalf of the city of San Diego to participate in the Green Lane Project. BikeSD is a non-profit, member-based advocacy organization covering the city of San Diego with a population of approximately 1.3 million residents. We advocate to increase our bicycling mode share in San Diego and the San Diego region by advocating for bicycle infrastructure that is proven to increase bicycle usage. We also work on the regional, state and national levels, and I serve on the Board of the California Bicycle Coalition. BikeSD has built robust partnerships with related advocacy organizations such as the Livable Streets Coalition (encompassing transit, walking, placemaking and bicycle advocacy groups), the California Bicycle Coalition, Transform, national organizations such as the Alliance for Biking and Walking and the League of American Bicyclists. We have also had the good fortune to work with the City of San Diego and SANDAG both of whom are excited about implementing innovative solutions to increasing bicycling mode share. Some of these efforts include: The Green Lane Project Meeting We initiated and facilitated the meeting last May that introduced you to our committed councilmembers and Mayor including our business and advocacy stakeholders. CicloSDias BikeSD partnered with the City of San Diego and a number of other organizations and businesses to host our first open streets event last August.

Valet Bike Parking BikeSD, despite being only a year old, has initiated some programs including valet bike parking at the AIDS Walk and at the Velodromes twice a year swap meet as a free service to the community. We intend to expand on this program going forward. Passage of the Regional and City Bike Plan with unanimous commitment from the SANDAG board and the City Council Successful advocacy to narrow vehicle travel lanes and implement buffered bicycle lanes on some of our widest arterial streets such as Montezuma Road and Nimitz Boulevard

As you can see, the city of San Diego is working towards becoming a great bicycling city. Our mission is to transform San Diego into a world class city for bicycling and our advocacy strategy has been to borrow the best ideas and implement them in San Diego. Please help us achieve this goal by selecting San Diego to participate in the Green Lane Project. Sincerely,

Samantha Ollinger Executive Director/Board President
