Reaching the City to Reach the World

Celebrating 17 years of ministry to the nations in Chicago!

YWAM Chicago Korean-American Ministry

YWAM Chicago KA Ministry hosted a four-day youth camp in July for young people from all over
the Chicago area. Some participants and camp workers came from Texas, Wisconsin and even
from abroad. They did not let the hot summer weather keep them from concentrating on the train-
ing that changed their lives.
They learned about their identity in Christ, intimacy with God, calling and destiny, Christian life,
honesty, humility and servant heart, and evangelism throughout the whole camp. We also had time
for fun during our small group activity times. The highlight of the camp was the outreach that made
everyone connect together to demonstrate the love of God through witnessing the gospel. Many
of the participants said that they were nervous at the beginning of the outreach because they had
never experienced sharing the gospel in the market place. But as time went by; they were so excit-
ed to share the gospel. They prayed for market owners and customers in the market. John Lee (17,
Stevenson High School) who participated in the camp because of his parent’s recommendation
said that he wasn’t sure why he was there, but he discovered the extravagant love of Father God
through the camp. He said that the camp was a great opportunity to direct his destiny.
The camp will be held every year during summer and winter breaks. We pray that the camp will be
a good opportunity to reach out and to train young people for the kingdom of God. We are grate-
ful that allowed this ministry to take place this summer. Korean-American ministry will continue to
reach out to those who seek the love of God and to nurture and train young people to reach out
and be part of world missions. In addition, Korean-American Ministry will also provide counseling to
those who are in need.

We are excited to announce the

release of Brad’s book, Unwill-

the understanding the Lord gave
him and his kids, concerning His

the loss of his wife, Sherry. We
live in a time of heightened per-

global suffering. Brad’s book is a
message to this generation about

Stockman, who had also lived and worked in the
same neighborhood for 7 years. John went on
to train with YWAM Denver, met and married
Amanda. The Stockmans moved back to Chicago
and joined our YWAM staff. We all met up and
talked about our vision for the neighborhood. It
was then that we realized that our neighborhood
needed a tangible presence of the kingdom of
God. We realized that the need for community was
great, so we decided to make this vision a reality.

We want to model the Kingdom of God with hospitality, the arts, relational discipleship, in our work, and
through taking up the cross in issues of social/environmental justice and stewardship. Our prayer is that
through living out the Gospel holistically, the Holy Spirit will bring transformation to our neighborhood and city.

5th Annual Arts With A Mission Summer Camp

“Raising up an army of artistic ambassadors”

We had an awesome experience with amazing participants from various

economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. This year we had 2 former camp-
ers (Elizabeth Bonilla & Sohyun Choi) join us in volunteer staff positions
for the camp. I love seeing them pour into the lives of fellow Chicagoans.
We also had a group of 8 Native American youth from Oklahoma join us this
year and we got to see them give an official “welcome to our land” to the
rest of us! Every year I think, “This is the best one yet!” I am excited to see
what God will continue to do in all of our lives. God changed our hearts and
habits as we learned more about carrying our crosses and living the lives
He has given us. By Thursday, our staff and 95 camp participants were
ready to minister & perform at Six Flags, nursing homes and downtown. It
was a privilege to share the glory God has bestowed on us with others.

City of Bridges

bridge: [noun],
a connecting, transitional, or intermediate route
between two adjacent elements

Chicago is home to 50 river bridges, making it the city with the most movable bridges anywhere in
the world. Chicago is a bridge city. During the railway era, Chicago had the busiest railway center
in the world. It was called the “Hub of The Wheel” for North America. As the world moved to the sky,
Chicago held the title of the busiest airport in the world up until only a few years ago, making it a
“Hub of the World”. With 77 million passengers last year alone it is now second only to Atlanta. Since
its inception, Chicago has been a bridge for the United States and the world. It has been both a
connecting point as well as a destination to nearly every nation. Perhaps this is one of God’s dreams
for this city. May God make Chicago a connecting point where the people of the world can expe-
rience relational reconciliation and the shared wealth of each other’s gifts. May He give the church
a gift of hospitality and the ability to host these nations with compassion, honor, and His heart.

Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WYE-
wam”), our calling is to know God and to make Him known. Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth into short-term mission work and to give them opportuni-
ties to reach out in Jesus’ name. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people of almost every age (even many people who choose to spend their “retirement” in active
service). Our many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training and mercy ministry. We are currently operating in more than 1000 locations in over 149 countries, with a
staff of nearly 16,000.
