BIG MESSAGE LIVE OUTLINE

DOCUMENT PURPOSE
Use this outline to construct a message that works for you and your childrens ministry.

Scripture References: Daniel 3 Isaiah 43:7 Isaiah 61 Psalm 95:6 1 Chronicles 16:28-29 Matthew 22:37-38 John 4:23-34 Acts 17:16 - 34 Hebrews 12:28 1 Peter 2:9

INTRO
Have you ever been somewhere that is the border between two states or two countries, when you can put one foot in one country and your other foot in another country? Its like being in two places at once! Even right now in this room you could be in two places at once. You might easily nd yourself sitting in church or sitting in class at school, and although your body is here in the room your mind is off somewhere else. Your attention is out the door and your imagination is going wild with ideas, or youre thinking about what you feel like eating for lunch. All of a sudden you snap back and realise that while you were physically here you were somewhere else at the same time. When we worship we need to pay attention to the right things, worshipping with your body and your mind at the same time, in the same place. When you worship God you dont want to have your hands raised and your mouth singing the words, but your mind thinking about which kind of ice cream you like best. Matthew 22:37 - 38 says, Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart and with ALL your soul and with ALL your mind. Love God with every part of you and have your focus on Him. While its cool to be able to stand on a border and be in two places at once, imagine a room full of people all focused on the one thing, all giving praise to God and giving Him their all.

Supplies Needed: If you have a photo of yourself standing on the the border between two states or countries you can show it as part of your introduction, or use the cartoon image from the print material disc.

STORYTELLING
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego Share the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the book of Daniel chapter 3. Instruct your characters to crouch down, and each time you say their name they must stand up then crouch down again. There once was a King, in the land of Babylon named King Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold that was so high it seemed to touch the clouds. King Nebuchadnezzar then summoned the important people to come to the dedication of the huge image he had set up. They all stood at its base and King Nebuchadnezzars herald proclaimed, All the people of the land must fall down and worship the image as soon as they hear the music play. You must all fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace. Everyone set about their business and when the sound rang out across the land everyone bowed down and worshipped the image. All except 3. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were Jews and they had someone else to worship. They knew that God didnt want people to worship anything or anyone other than Him. They knew that to worship a statue that doesnt know them, love them or care for them is just crazy! Some of King Nebuchadnezzars workers heard that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not joining in when the music played. They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, You have issued a decree, O King Nebuchadnezzar, that everyone who hears the sound of the music must fall down and worship the image of gold, and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace. But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of BabylonShadrach, Meshach and Abednegowho pay no attention to you, O King Nebuchadnezzar. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up. King Nebuchadnezzar was mad, furious and outraged. He summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and said to them, Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? Now when you hear the sound of the music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand? Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, O King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know O King, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. This made King Nebuchadnezzar even more furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. He ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual then commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, wearing all their clothing, were sent into the blazing furnace.

When King Nebuchadnezzar went to the furnace he couldnt believe his eyes. He leapt to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, Werent there three men that we tied up and threw into the re? They replied, Certainly, O King Nebuchadnezzar. He said, Look! I see four men walking around in the re, unbound and unharmed. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and a fourth who looks like a son of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come here! So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the re and a crowd gathered around them. They saw that the re had not harmed their bodies; not a hair of their heads was singed, their clothes were not burnt, and they didnt even smell like a campre! King Nebuchadnezzar said, Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in Him and deed the Kings command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces, and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way. Then King Nebuchadnezzar promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and gave them better jobs and a huge pay rise.

OBJECT LESSON
Imagine your life like this pie. You may like Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Chicken Pie or any sort of pie. Not because your life is full of yummy lling and covered in pastry but imagine your whole life being represented by this pie. Think about all the areas of your life. You might think you have one piece for your family, one piece for school, another for friends, another for sport, another piece for your hobbies, a piece for church and a piece here for God. When this pie is all sliced up, and all the pieces given to all the parts of your life it can look like a bit of a mess. But what happens when you need to make another slice for something new that comes along? Keep cutting up the pie until it has so many pieces its all a big mess. You might begin to feel like you just dont have enough pie to go around and you might end up with a smaller and smaller piece that you can devote to God. Well the truth is that God doesnt want a small piece of your life he wants the whole thing! Give your whole pie to God.

Supplies Needed: A pie and a knife to cut slices.

That doesnt mean we cant have hobbies and friends and play sport, but we can let God into all those pieces of our life. See all parts of your life as belonging to God. In Acts 17:28 (TNIV) Paul says, For in him we live and move and have our being. God breathes life into us and to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind, is to honour Him with everything that we are.

POINTS
1. Love God with everything you are. Worship is more than just singing. Worship doesnt even have to involve music at all. Worship is all about our attitude. Hebrews 12:28 (NIV) says, Let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe John 4:23-24 (NIV) says, Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth. Worship is all about an attitude of recognising Gods worth and responding with honour to Him. We can worship God with everything that we are, giving Him our all. When you think about God, surrender all to Him and love Him with everything that you are, that is where you nd worship. 2. We are created to worship. We are created to worship God. God created humans in His image to worship Him. 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) says, But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Gods special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Just like a violin is made by a craftsman so that it can be played, giving melody and sound to its creator, we are created by God worship to Him. You might not be good at singing or playing music. Maybe when you sing glasses break and people cover their ears, but you have a song and you can worship. Your life itself can be a song to God. Dont worry about how great a singer you are, God loves the sound of your singing and you should sing to Him all the time anyway! 3. All You Need Is Love LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. When you LOVE someone you think about them, you honour them and you think they are amazing. Take time to think about your LOVE for God. He LOVES you and when you think about, sing about, tell about, feel about His love you can only love Him back. Gods love makes all the difference. No matter what youre facing when you think about how much God loves you, your life begins to change.
