Beginning at the End: The Book of Revelation in 2014

As we usher in the new year, you are invited to worship with us as we begin at the end with the last book in the Bible: the book of Revelation. Often confusing and ambiguous, the book of Revelation is often associated with its terrifying visions and descriptions of the end. But it is really a book of new beginnings, and the perfect way to bring in 2014, as we together celebrate Gods vision for our future and our present. Explore together with us as we begin the new year celebrating the grace of God!

First Baptist Book Club

The January selection is Not Without Laughter by Langston Hughes. This book is a semi-biographical account of a young boy growing up in Kansas. Hughes said that he based it on his experiences growing up in Lawrence. An e-book is available at the Lawrence public library. The meeting will be on January 13 at Lynne Beattys house, 1045 Wellington Road at 7:00 pm. The February selection is Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen. This book is about a traveling circus in the 1930s in America and the relationships between the different cast members. This is a Book Club in a Bag selection so we will have 10-12 copies to loan out for those interested in reading the book. The meeting will be on February 10. Books can be picked up at the January meeting. The March selection is Slave by Mende Nazer. This book is an autobiography about a woman who, at the age of 12, was seized from her village in Sudan and sold into slavery. It is a revealing book about the continuing problem of human trafficking in our present age. The meeting will be held on March 10. The First Baptist Book club reads a wide variety of works including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, and poetry. Members suggest the books to be read. If you love books, please join us!

January Prayer Emphasis

In this new year, let us pray for new beginnings in a myriad of ways new hope, new life, new ways of thinking, new ways of serving and loving our neighbor. Let us pray for new relationships with our families, friends and community, which might include reconciliations and forgiveness. As it says in Isaiah 43:19 "For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun. Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home." (NLT)

Greetings from New Jersey!

Dear Pastor Matthew and members of First Baptist Lawrence, We greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was a pleasure to have Dezo with us here in New Jersey. We were so happy to see her, to get to know her and to hear about her amazing dream for the future of Haiti. We are praying that God will make her dream to become a reality. The Haitian Baptist Church At The Crossroads wants to thank you so much for all the support you have given to her for the past two years, and for what you are continuing to do for her. We thank you so much for your love for her and for Haiti. We all members of our congregation appreciate your love for God manifested in Dezos preparation for missionary work. Special thanks to all of the members of your congregation, and especially to Nancy and Tim Bonner, and Dava and Travis Cooper who have accepted her as one of their own. She spoke so highly of you all. We are praying for you. We are also sure that what you are doing is not wasted, but it will be a benefit for the future generation of Haiti. Again thank you very much, for your great generosity. May the blessings of the Lord be upon each one of you! With Gods love, Rev. Dr. Edgard Nicolas, Associate Regional Pastor Haitian Baptist Church at the Crossroads, Newark, New Jersey.
