Dumoi

Dumoi ranks as one of Luvenias top firms and has very strong ties with the government. Its me-too strategy has been very successful in many food categories (cola, chocolate) including dairy and Dumoi has been able to consistently launch strong copy-cat products. The Managing Director is a Luvenian woman with considerable experience within Group Danone. Has past experience in marketing and sales. The Marketing and Sales Director is one of the two foreigners working in Luvenia. He is one of the Groups international managers, with an impressive track record. The Operations Director was hired 5 years ago as a plant director. He graduated as an engineer from one of Luvenias top universities, and rapidly became director of a plant in a major international food company. The Finance Director is a newcomer to DDL, as her predecessor was asked to fill an unexpected vacancy in a key South-American market. The Human Resource Director has been with DDL since its establishment in 1998, albeit in a different position (logistics). As such, he is probably one of the most knowledgeable people about the Luvenian subsidiary.

Danone Luvenia Employees - A total of 650 people currently work at DDL, including 140 managers. The average age is 33. The male/female split is still 80/20, but improving. 45% of employees have at least a university degree, and the average seniority is about 7 years. Distribution channels - More than 115,000 small shops (under 50 m2) still carry the majority of the trade (75%). However, their number is going down (-25% in the past 10 years), and the number of supermarkets (> 400m2) has tripled in ten years, to reach a record high of 7000 stores. SMAKS - Danone Support for Mother And Kid Sites: In each Luvenian district, DDL has established a medical and information centre, together with a major NGO. These centres give free nutritious and health-related advices to mothers and their children. A two-year research protocol carefully conducted in several countries has established the scientific validity of the product claim.

Ardajan plant - The main weak points that have been identified are the situation in the Ardajan plant, which was found less satisfactory and the gap between managers (this includes young graduates, middle and top-level managers) and non-managers (administrative staff, technicians, supervisors and operators). The latter seem particularly dissatisfied regarding their access to information, training and development opportunities.
