AKWABAA!!

Ghana 2014 is set to be the experience of a lifetime for all the participants, Ghanaian hosts, and most importantly, the viewers of this groundbreaking documentary. Ghana 2014 will be a collaboration of the allAfrican American cast of young people to fundraise, raise awareness, experience, and document a pilgrimage to the conception of the African Diaspora, as it relates to Ghana, and to preeminently expose it to those who are unfamiliar with it. Our goal is to make the world aware of some hidden truths of modern-day African life as it relates to Ghana, and the blend of western civilization and culture that now exist alongside traditional Ghanaian customs. The vision is to also begin The New Enlightenment Era, a period foreshadowed by initiatives of the Executive Director, Producer, and Creator, Randy Person Jr., of Ghana 2014 as a time when the youth of the most influential culture in the world will stand up and hold global powers accountable for their injustices inflicted on humanity. Ghana 2014 will be the spark plug of this new revolution of young intellectuals worldwide, we just need your support NOW!

Randy with his Ghanaian tour guide

Meet Randy
In May of 2012, Person, the Creator, Executive Director, and Producer of Ghana 2014, participated in a study abroad experience with Duke University called Duke in Ghana and was also a fullscholarship recipient for the program. It was life changing; I was exposed to something I never understood but it continued, day in, day out, to make sense, he says. Person then began after just two days in Ghana to begin a blog to reveal his experience to his family and friends back home. I would make a post and tweet the link on Twitter,

Ghana 2014: The Documentary

Ghana 2014 will be a documentary based on the daily events of an all-African American group of young people that will travel and experience the Ghanaian culture and lifestyle for two weeks. Person, as creator, intends to push the envelope with this film by evolving a new identity for young African American people. I dont intend to begin a new Pan -African movement and relocate every black person in America to Ghana. Thats is not the goal. But I intend to realign some of the common misconceptions of young African Americans and modern-day Africa at the same time, Person explains. The entire Ghana 2014 cast will be composed of young African American peoples from various areas within the US and different lifestyles and career aspirations. Person hopes that showcasing a varied spectrum of young African American lifestyles and career pathways such as Biology, Political Science, and Arts, in the cast of the Ghana 2014 film will begin to trend a new age for empowering African American people in the US.

sometimes even directly to people I followed. I would get numerous retweets and tweets in response, and everyone was loving the blog. But there were a lot of moments I didnt capture, and I would just think I wish my people were here, he continued about the earliest thoughts of documenting his experience in Ghana. Person ultimately decided he needed to find a way to bring the experience from Ghana to the forefront so his family, friends, and intellectuals like himself could experience it as well, without stepping foot in Ghana. The answer is Ghana 2014! Please, Check out the blog he kept on his travels in Ghana in 2012 @ Ghana-2012.blogspot.com The Humanitarian Before leaving Ghana, Person initiated a mentor relationship with one young man named Hamza. Hamza danced during a ceremony at his primary (K-5) school and Person was intrigued by Hamzas excitement during his performance. I just wanted to help encourage him to stay as excited about school, continuously. They exchanged facebook and phone contact information and stayed in heavy contact. In August 2012, Hamza reached out asking for assistance with paying tuition to Guardians Academy, a middle school in Ghana. Person rushed to Hamzas need and assembled an affordable platform to pay for the tuition fees. Soon enough Person hooked deans, directors, and professors from the NCCU faculty along with family and friends to help support Hamza. However, due to complications Person ended up paying roughly over 40% of a $1,200 tuition and board cost out of his own pocket. Hamza successfully completed his first year of middle school with flying colors but it seems the same pressures that Person wanted to secure Hamza from by attempting to support his education got the best of Hamza. Still Person wants to help Hamza but it is imperative that Person gets to handle the situation on a face-to-face level. Support Ghana 2014 and help Hamza get back on track.

The cast will most importantly be in charge and responsible for fundraising their expenses and costs of participating in the cast of A message inscribed on a Ghana 2014. I want us, wall at one of the three origias a group, to step foot nal Trans-Atlantic slave forts in Ghana and look at each other as a body of work, because we all did the hustling and grinding to get Official Language here. That will make us all, as the Population cast, understand the purpose of showing the viewer what we as young African Americans have to say. So while Independence day we are doing all of that, I want cameras right there too. The exposition of the Elmina, Cape Coast, and Keta slave castles in Ghana by the Ghana 2014 Currency film will be one of, if not, the heaviest topic of the entire documentary, especially for those who will become Religion learned on their relation to the African Diaspora from those same portals of slavery across the Atlantic. That will culminate with the first-hand interacFlag tions with the cast and the Ghanaian people throughout our everyday journeys will be intriguing for every viewer and most importantly the each cast member individually. My vision is to compose this Ghana 2014 cast with people who dont mind getting personal with this experience and then being able to tell the camera what it feels like. I want the viewers to really be able to relate to every experience and that is when the cast must step up and reveal what emotions arise at any moment.

Ghana 2014: The Experience

The experiences while in Ghana will be thought-provoking for both the cast and the viewer. The day-to-day itinerary will be based on Ghanaian tourist attractions, like slave castles and national parks, visiting and participating in activities with Ghanaians related to Ghanaian cultural customs, like dances and drum lessons, and lectures at the University of Ghana at Legon on subjects that relate to Ghanas history, culture, and politics. These activities will compose the primary basis of Ghana 2014s documentary as a group but there will be many opportunities for each individual cast member to chase individual career, social, or education experiences as well. Person, as Executive Director, aims to evolve a plan that will take each individual and put them in situations and experiences with Ghanaian people that have similar interest and pursuits; whether it is educational pathways, like biology or political science, or even career pursuits like music or entrepreneurship. This will build towards engaging the cast in a true abroad experience by allowing them to observe their interest on from an international standpoint. Also, amongst all the most impactful experience that cast will share with the viewer are the humanitarian projects for the Ghana 2014 film. Prior to leaving the U.S. for Ghana, Person will collaborate with his community, the Raleigh-Durham area of NC and his university, NCCU, to organize social events and community service projects to build support and awareness for mental, social, and educational issues as they relate to Ghanaians and African Americans. Generally, the projects will be to gather supplies necessary for mental, social, and educational wellness to give out to the Ghanaian people.
