Federal Aviation Administration

To whom it may concern:

Enclosed is my resume. I am confident that it will prove that I am well-qualified for the
position of air traffic control intern. Knowing the mental demands of the position I feel that I am
definitely well-suited. While being involved in the CTI program at Purdue University, I have
taken many valuable courses to grant me an opportunity such as this.

The aviation technology department at Purdue has prepared me to begin work as an air
traffic control intern for the FAA. In taking courses such as AT 369: Air Traffic Control, I have
gain invaluable knowledge of the atmosphere and requirements found in the field of air traffic
control. I have learned proper procedures as well as passed tower, TRACON, and center
simulators. This knowledge that I will bring to the FAA internship program will set a great
foundation to learn and build off.

Prior to entering aviation courses at Purdue, I was involved in different activities in high
school, particularly the Boy Scouts of America. As a Boy Scout, I attained the title of Eagle
Scout. I believe that the FAA can benefit greatly from hiring me due to the leadership skills I
have developed as a Boy Scout. I gained much leadership experience through my scouting
career as I held the rank of Senior Patrol Leader, the highest rank within a Troop. While I was
given much freedom to lead as a young man, there were specific procedures I had to follow, and
the Troop relied on the fact that I enforced them.

I have also learned responsibility through my continuing experiences as the Purdue

mascot, Purdue Pete. I represent a world-renowned university at different sporting events and
special event across the state and nation. Being the mascot has also taught me how to perform
under pressure. At football games I can have tens of thousands of eyes on me at any one time.
There are a lot of people expecting a great deal out of me which can almost seem overwhelming,
but I have learned the proper ways to deal with such pressure. The fact that I can handle great
responsibilities and pressures will undoubtedly help me succeed as an ATC intern for the FAA.

I appreciate being considered for this internship. If there is any more information you
would like from me or questions you would like me to answer, please do not hesitate to contact
me via telephone at 708-285-5183, by e-mail at jmlynars@purdue.edu, or by the mail address on
my resume.

I look forward to having the opportunity to help safely guide our nation’s air traffic.

Sincerely,

James Mlynarski
